And on earth: peace, goodwill towards men - a defiantly Christmas-y MMP

What the heck…

I might as well get the first post as my minor consolation prize.

Pie you really need to make your discounts one per order in the future. The idea is that those things are supposed to bring in new people, and reward steady customers to the extent that you don’t get taken advantage of.

Well, I do have limits and they do promote customer loyalty. This is just coming at a bad time for me financially.

Gah. Where to start?

First, I doubt that GT is traveling through Chi-town today. Tis almost a white out out there. Good luck with the interview, hazel! (hell, good luck GETTING to the interview).
Daughter, who is so efficient and organized and so adult, did indeed get up at 0430 and off with The Husband by 0500. They got to O’Hare only to discover that she did not have her purse with her. So, they got her on the 10 am flight. It started snowing at 0800 and has only increased in intensity. The 0700 flight left on time. The 10 am flight was canceled. I’m sure the 4pm one that she is scheduled for now is also going to be canceled.

I feel so bad for her. I’ve forgotten entire suitcases and have missed flights myself. This is her one big Xmas thing–I hope she gets out tomorrow. So, while I love me some snow and do think this is gorgeous etc, I feel for my daughter, too. She is so hard on herself–stuff like this is not shrugged off by her…
:frowning:

Oooh, that sucks, rigs. And Pie.
Am home with orders to lie around and nap. With my hand near the phone just in case. tinyninjachef probably isn’t making an appearance today. My blood pressure was down a little. I think I’ll go have nap #1 right now, and tonight we’ll eat Japanese food and watch movies in an anniversary-romantic sort of way. Without any of the other Husbands around, although Driving Husband says that we really should have 'em here, since we took lots of them on our honeymoon.
It was the best group honeymoon ever. We took 10 of our closest friends with us. No, they didn’t get to share our room.

Ughgh… The good news is I finally got the mortgage paid, narrowly avoiding a 30-day late ding. The bad news is that the January mortgage is due in four days.

DH’s unemployment checks have not started to come yet, and since early December, all he’s found for work was about 12 hours worth. Not that UI comes anywhere close to a normal paycheck. All I can hope for is that our tax returns won’t be affected by that IRS form mess that will delay processing and refunds for certain people until late February.

Sorry for all the bad stuff happening to everyone! Fates, y’all just stop it, ya hear???

I’me sitting here wishing I could go home. I had some work to do that was easy-peasy, and kept me busy for a couple of hours. That was helpful! Now all I have left is my regular work, and DontWanna has shown up and is hitting me in the back of the head! Ow, stop it!

I’m sure I’ll cut out early - 2:00 sounds about right! I’m off NYE, so I’m looking forward to a 4-day weekend. And seeing my husband! We are definitely working on his resume TOMORROW!

I guess I’ll go grab a sandwich downstairs.

Later, mumpers…

Weather delayed flights just plain (plane) suck

A buncha years ago, I had a flight to Pittsburgh (out of NYC) Firday evening of Labor Day weekend. A hurricane was quickly approaching the area. When my folks dropped me off at the airport, it was just raining. They went to dinner and I waited for my 4 pm flight. And waited. And waited. And waited until about 10:30pm. Periodically, I’d go over to the payphone and try to reach my folks to ask them to come back for me so I could hang at home until 9pm or so. After 8:30 I gave up. This was all pre-cell phones and my folks hadn’t yet bought an answering maching.
So we were finally all boarded at 10:45pm (many folks had given up and gone home - there were only about 10 of us on the plane), the flight finally took off about 11:30pm. At 12:01 am, the flight attendants come down the aisle with the liquor cart “Good Morning, everyone. It’s Saturday. Have a drink on the house.” By the time I got to the hotel in P’burgh, it was 2:30 am. sheesh.

Afternoon, everybody. I was missing this morning because I was being a Very Good Girl and getting a looooong, annoying job done. Which I’ve been struggling with all week. Its excessive length didn’t help anything any, nor the tendency of most of the participants to speak so fast they were stumbling over their words and couldn’t have put together a complete, grammatical sentence without stopping and starting five times if their lives depended on it.

So I am feeling exceedingly grumpy today.

I’m off to do laundry. Hugs, boos, yays, stay safes, as appropriate!

I waited half an hour for the stupid bus, but managed to get there just on time. Thankfully I didn’t have to go all the way to the college - I met with the department head at a coffee shop. She was a tiny lady and very nice. (It helped that I had a recommendation from the head of the political science department of their school!) I’ll be teaching at least two classes. And the pay - it’s almost twice as much as what I’m getting paid now per class. The only downside is that it’s in Des Plaines. Gack! That’s really far away. Ah well.

Now I’m trying to decide if I can keep my 12:30 M/W class at the school I’m at right now. It’d be cutting it reeeeeeeally close; plus - six classes! That’s over a full-time work load.

I’m still really excited about teaching this class. It’s still a composition class but it’s part of a gender studies program, which I did a lot of in undergrad. Yay!

I hope rigsdaughter gets home without too much more fuss. The snow seems to be slowing down a little for the time being.

LiLi, that’s an awesome idea - spending honeymoon with friends. :: makes note for future reference ::

Home and done for the year - with work, anyway. I’m waiting to hear back about the van - hope it’s a cheap and easy-to-fix issue.

Tomorrow morning, we’re going to look at, and possibly buy, a recumbent bike. The guy’s ad said he’s hardly ever used it, and when I looked the model up on line, it got pretty good comments. So mebbe we can start working out at home. We both liked the recumbent bikes at the Y, eons ago when we were members.

I’ve got a hunk o’cow thawing - it’s going to be either roasted or rotissed for supper. That’s as ambitious I think I’ll be for the rest of the day.

Incidentally - why, all of a sudden, am I hearing people saying “Right on” I thought it was a stupid expression back in the early 70s, and it most certainly hasn’t aged well…

That’s all I’ve got.

Had lunch with oldest bestest friend today and her two little adorable kids. I had a blast with them. Then we went to the park and I pushed them on the swings and stuff.

I am hoping that my flights turn out OK on Sunday - Heathrow only got cleared up from the weekends cancellations on Wednesday. Oh well I will turn up and hope for the best.

Nice drunken post swampy

I am back to work on Monday then off on Tuesday and back to normal Wednesday then no more holidays til Memorial Day!

I want to be a lady who lunches…

Hi everybody!

I’m back. I need to make this announcement because I doubt anybody else would bother

And I am sooo not wading through over 4 pages right now… sorry. Yays, boos as appropriate and Merry [sub]belated[/sub] Christmas to all!

OK, I lied a little… I did read the OP. Wonderful OP, haze!

I will be back later, I suppose. You may gnash your teeth in expectation of the worst :o

YAY!!! Welcome back Special1!! Room 304 hasn’t gotten much use since you’ve been gone.

Welcome back, SpecialOne! Hope you enjoyed yourself - I think your buddies missed ya though.

LiLi, try concentrating on your breathing to help lower your BP–it’s worked for me. Good luck, btw–I’m thinking of you and tinyninjachef!

I left work a couple of hours early; stopped by the store on the way home to get a few things, and now am in for the night. YAY! It was sunny and bright around 10 am, but it’s clouded up and gotten cold again, and we’re supposed to get rain. At least it isn’t snow, eh? ducks from the Chicago folks

I’m not reading through the last three pages of this (100 posts per page for the win!) so I’m going to wish a retroactive Merry Christmas/Cool Yule/Krazy Kwanzaa/and Festivus for the Restofus, distribute appropriate emotions to all for the past week, and so forth.

I’ve been doing the cross-state holiday tour. Stopped at Doctor Sister’s for Christmas Eve. My buddy Kate flaked out on me for the lovefeast (kinda upset about that–she couldn’t go two blocks out of her way to pick me up. )

Christmas day was huge–Dr. Sister’s sons got a Wii. I managed to pry the 9-year-old off of it long enough to become fairly proficient at bowling. My niece was quiet most of the day until Art Sister told her that she could tell everyone The Secret: there will be a fifth kid next Christmas. The Great Naming Debate has begun and it’s a pain: Art Sister has taught someone with nearly every name in the book and she hates 90% of them. She had the horrible realization that she’s going to have to get a minivan. I had the realization that I need a car and suddenly there’s one that’s up for sale. We have worked out a deal and my dad is the financial middleman. Soon I will have a Subaru Outback.

Stopped at Dad’s house on the 26th and helped him take my grandma to the store to exchange a shirt. We had a nice visit and he showed me an alternate route to the mountains. I took said alternate route yesterday. Thirty minutes down the road I realized I left my jacket and new MST3K shirt and I had to turn around to get them. Then I missed the turn I needed to get to the interstate and had to turn around. (Dear Mapquest: “Becomes” is not a synonym for “turn left.”)

My Mountain Buddy took me on the grand tour of downtown Asheville last night and sold me even more on moving here next year. Next year he will have a trailer up for rent. I enjoy having connections.

Plus, it’s raining. Already this new year is becoming better.

Well…

That was embarrassing.

Hey, welcome back! Did you bring pie?

Are you kidding? CP already made the announcement early last night.

::herding Lunch into room 304 and locking him in for CP::

CP, you’re welcome!

Oh, and welcome back, Lunch! ::smooches::

ETA: and welcome back to you too, bbs2k!

ETA2:

I thought the Pie was already here.

Welcome back bbs2k!
