Dinner sounds a nice compromise. And we have no snow down here! Nothing at all --and I confess I am bummed about it.
HazelNutCoffee, you have proclaimed Good Tidings of great joy! You know what that makes you, don’t you? You are an angel – and the Christmas Angel at that! I’ve always wanted to meet you. I just never dreamed that your name would be as it is or that it would be in the same year that I met the Sugar Plum Fairy whose name is Hunkapillar – honestly. (But that’s another story.)
As for your message, it is well received. God rest ye merry!
I think we’re ready, too. We’ve finished wrapping the presents, and we’ll head off to church in half an hour or so, to beat the rush. I’m wearing jeans. After some thought, I’ve decided that women who are nine months pregnant and have to walk twenty minutes to church are bloody well allowed to wear whatever will fit and be warm. No skirts.
In fairness, my Dad did offer to drive us, but their service is at 6:30, so we’d be getting there at least forty-five minutes early. And there will probably be utter chaos in the santuary in prep for Mass.
I’m glad you’re doing something with friends tonight, and with your brother tomorrow, Haze.
Merry Christmas, everyone! I won’t be online until sometime late tomorrow or early Wednesday, so- everyone have fun, eat too much, and I hope there are no major family explosions or bad things for any MMPers tomorrow or for the upcoming year. And that everyone gets good presents. Or at least not terrible ones. Or at least funny terrible ones.
Mwah! :blows kisses:
What I’ve learned this week is that Cuervo only loves me for my ability to light a fire in the fireplace. Once the fire is lit, he flops down in front of it and just flips and flops, sleeping the evening away. And being the bossy little guy he’s turned into, no other cat may come near enough to feel HIS warmth, from HIS fire.
We’re all set now too, can we just get it here and get this done with? Tonight is actually a more elaborate meal than tomorrow’s will be. Tonight is steak, and lobster tail with a wild rice side dish. Soon as the Kid gets home from work, I start a-cookin.
Well, Christmas has come to Washington DC! The water-skiing Santa Claus, along with all his crew (and some others too, like Frosty the Snowman and even the Grinch, who Frosty “chased” off) have done their 22nd annual water ski on the Potomac. Hard to believe they’ve done it since 1985; at least they had fairly decent temps today (40s-50s), although you know that Potomac water was darn cold.
We had turkey today, instead of the roast beast–mostly because the turkey was thawed and ready and the beast wasn’t!! laughs It’s okay–roast beef tomorrow, with yorkshire pudding, jello molded salad and deviled eggs and steamed spiced shrimp as hors d’oerves (sp?). Fortunately, my son has eaten -most- of the pecan pie, so it was a hit! We’ve still got lots of cookies and a pumpkin pie. I think I’ve probably got enough food to last through to New Year’s day too. I may even take some of the extra cookies in to share with my co-workers, at least the ones who will be there with me this week.
Again, a very Merry Christmas to all. And {{{{{{Meli}}}}}}; you’re in my thoughts and prayers, sorry for the loss of your grandfather.
Hi, ya’ll - really weird flip flop schedule this week. Just wanted to say Merry Chrismas and I love you all!
Merry Christmas Mumpers!!
Work was busy, had to chase a few malingerers out after closing. I’m having brats, then taking a nap before Midnight Mass.
{{{{Meli}}}}}
Welcome back, Drae!
Hi, Drae. I’m back just in time to wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! (while it’s still your birthday)
I’m so sorry for your loss, meli. Thanks for letting us know, Ali.
Very sleepy.
More tomorrow.
GT
I can barely keep my eyes open, but the firecracker crackers are out in force…
{{Meli}}} I’m so sorry.
Hi Drae!!! Come back more often!
Mr Rebo is passed out in his chair. I’m tahred too, I cleaned house all day, and made both desserts, plus cooked Arroz con Pollo for Christmas Eve dinner - it was very yummy!
I’m gonna wait until midnight, then take Mr Rebo to bed. <snerk!>
Merry Christmas everyone!
A very happy holiday to everyone here on the Dope.
My pleasure. I’ve never been called an angel before. :: blush ::
Hey, I’m home at a fairly reasonable hour. See? I can be a good girl. Merry Christmas! Muah!
Merry Christmas, Dopers. It’s already afternoon here, and I’m ready to get this day over with. If it weren’t for the shoddy christmas decorations in the dfac or the depressing ambience of slow christmas music, it would just be another day for me.
My first present this morning was the lack of any running water! Hooray, A Christmas Miracle!!
Hope you all have a wonderful time with your family and loved ones. I have but one good friend and my Dopers! That should be sufficient.
Oh, and great OP HazelNut. Well gotta get back to work. . .
Merry Christmas to all!
TVMan and I are up early today and have already exchanged gifts. In a couple of hours we’ll be heading to TVParents’ house where he will be opening gifts with his family and then it’s off to PieLand for Christmas dinner.
We’re spending the night in PieLand and taking a bit of a roadtrip on the Lincoln Highway. Our target destination is Lehman’s. I’ve been there several times, but he never has. I think he’ll find it pretty interesting.
Ok, time to see if I can con him into making us some kind of breakfast.
Good morning and Merry Christmas folks! It’s 2:36 am and I’ve just finished prepping the house for our guests today.
We didn’t get home until nearly 11:00 pm, so I’ve been busting my hump since then. I’m going to try and get some sleep and be awake in just a few hours to unwrap presents and enjoy at least a couple hours of peace before our guests arrive. All I have left to do is scrub the powder room, wash the floor in there, and wash the floor in the entry way. Everything else is sparkling clean.
Christmas Eve at MIL’s was chaotic. The kids that were wee when I first started going to her house for Christmas have toddlers of their own now. My goodness, what a racket! But, they had fun and enjoyed their presents, that’s what Christmas should be about. Frankly, I was ready to leave well before we actually did, but MIL wanted us to hang around for coffee and pie. I was too stuffed from dinner for pie, but I did have a cup of coffee before we left there. It’s probably a good thing I did too.
Well, off to catch a few ZZZZZZs. Hugs and warm wishes to all of you.
Merry Christmas everybody! I’m up, I’ve walked the dog, put on a pot of coffee, and Roomie is out getting fresh bagels. Her mom and youngest brother will be here in a couple hours for general merriment and then they’re leaving for her Grandma’s, so I get the house to myself for most of the day–at which time I will start in on the wrapped pile of DVD-shapes that are currently waiting for me under the tree.
Thanks for the birthday wishes, GT, although I didn’t expect anybody to remember when I’ve been gone for so long. You rock. I will not mention at this time that aside from Roomie, only two of my three-dimensional friends remembered to call me yesterday. However, my righteous anger will keep me warm ‘til New Years’.
Oooooh! Roomie’s home! Time for presents!! Have a wonderful day, everybody!
Bah Humbug, y’all.
I’m up, making cat’s head biscuits for a biscuits and gravy breakfast for She Who Must Be Obeyed.
I’m looking forward to another day of sloth.
Remember, every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings…
ETA: Welcome back, Drae.
Morning, and Merry Christmas, all!
I am awaiting the dough rising, then I’ll make the coffee cake. Santa brought me a new calendar for the kitchen, lots of French chocolate and a nice snowman stained glass ornament type thingy, that will hang with my snowflake suncatchers in the bay window. That Santa sure has good taste!
Kids are still asleep–my kids have never been ones to get up at 0400 or whatever for Santa. And thank god, say I.
I got Stephen Colbert’s book! Am reading it now–funny as hell. I’ll never hear “The Midnight Train to Georgia” again quite the same way. I got some plates from my mother (?), and two more books, plus some socks (?). #1 son got me a DVD of Stephen Colbert’s Best. Yay!
All in all, not a bad Xmas. Kids liked their gifts, the big hit was the jousting knight set, as seen here:
Joustingknights
They are a ton of fun. Daughter likes the map of the Paris Metro and the lava lamp we got her as well. Other than that, we have Legos everywhere, iPod accessories everywhere, books, CDs and chocolate scattered throughout the living room.
How is Christmas morning at your house?
As B.D. said to Zonker many years ago: “Merry Christmas, freak!”
So: Merry Christmas, my fellow freaks.
And happy Hanukah, and fabulous Festivus, and sweet Solstice, and krazy Kwanzaa, and whatever else y’all might be celebrating. Cheers!
Morning Mumpers. Nelly has had her Christmas day walk. I’m drinking coffee, listening to Gregorian Chants in iTunes, and contemplating laundry and cleaning. My mom sent me a set of personalized beer glasses for Christmas, and a dog and cat ornament.
Vbob, cat’s head biscuits? Is Ralph no more then?
rigs, I must have the knight set. Of couse Nelly is the sort of beagle that hides in my room and barks when I Roomba the living room.
Happy belated birthday, Drae!!! Does the dog(Winston? Winslow?) still get medieval on Superman?
Taters, today is Tuesday, so you can’t bust your hump till tomorrow.
Welcome RTFirefly!!!, and Merry Christmas!!
Isn’t it cute? And they’re fast on hardwood floors. The kids have loved them; the cat, not so much. Off to make coffee cake. I like the sound of those beer glasses.
I can’t even think about cat’s head biscuits…<shudders>
