And the winner of the Grace VanderWaal Award for 2017 is...

What in the ever-loving fuck…? A trick table like how? I can see the whole table and those coins just appear. Then they turn in flower petals as I watch.

I only watched it once but I am not certain the coins were ever there in the first place.

There’s a bunch of reaction videos from other professional magicians on YouTube, and so far everyone that I’ve watched has had the same reaction: “What in the ever-loving fuck…? That’s amazing. I was not expecting that. I have no idea how he did it.”

psychobunny’s post inspired me to look at some of Darci’s other videos and it’s become apparent we saw only a small sliver of her talent on AGT the other night.

Take a look at this routine with an old lady puppet. The whole act is really cute and funny, with U Can’t Touch This at 4:30 an unexpected treat.

And then check out her voice at 1:03 in this video! That kid could be singing opera if she wanted to.

It’s obvious she has lots of good and savvy support, both from her parents and whoever has been training her in ventriloquism, and I think there’s a reason she didn’t pull out all the stops her first night but rather held back (and still blew everyone away, lol). If she keeps her true talent more or less under wraps and reveals it little by little as the show progresses, I think she has a very good shot at winning the whole thing.

Collins Key, the young magician who made it to the finals a couple of years ago, said he was blown away by the performance.

I have a pretty good idea of how Mr. Tsai did his trick now, I think, but it’s still a very impressive bit. Took me a bit to think of how this could be done, tho.

He’s good. Very good. It’s an old trick that we’ve all seen before, but he has a unique way of doing it, subverting our expectations. You don’t see him palming and sneaking the coins under the cards, because he’s not. It’s a trick table.
That blacker-than-black material on the table and his shirt hide a lot. The coins are always in the exact same spot when they “move” from location to location. He’s got rotating “holes”. A mechanical device somehow holds on to the coins (probably a well-timed and rehearsed electro-magnet) and spins to pull the coin into the hole and replaces it with that same black fabric. It only needs to spin faster then a 60th of a second to not be caught by the video camera. The table wobbles like mad when ever the coins “disappear”. It’s the spinning device. Picture a small paddle with the coin on one side and black fabric on the other. It is spring loaded to pull down into the table and then spin and then pop back into place. It is precisely engineered to not disturb the cards on the popup.

He then moves the coins to new holes pre-loaded with plastic flower petals that pop up when the coins are flipped into those holes. The little doors are flipping counter-clockwise from our vantage point and you can see the petals move slightly left with momentum.

The disappearing cards are simple dropped into his lap. that black shirt hides whatever caught them.
Spoiler covered, just in case. If it’s ok, it can be discussed openly.
