The Moody Blues are the band I’ve seen live most, before I was 21. My brother was obsessed. They really made some wonderful music together.
Me too. I was the obsessed one
I have fond memories of buying and enjoying Lodge & Hayward’s “Blue Jays” album that came out in '75.
Still have it, in fact.
mmm
RIP ![]()
The Moodies music has been a part of my life for a long time and John was an indispensable part of it. My first concert experience was the Question Of Balance tour in '71 and I saw John onstage with them several times after that. Thanks for the music & memories.
That was one of my few 45s ![]()
I looked up the lyrics and they say: “School taught one and one is two
But by now, that answer just ain’t two.”
Rhyming two with two. I thought for sure it was “just ain’t true”, til I watched again.
He was about to embark on a tour starting in December
I hope it’s okay to copy and paste what his family posted on Facebook:
It isn’t?
Sounds like “wave’s chicane” all over again from ELO’s I Can’t Get It Out Of My Head (a pic however confirms that Jeff Lynne’s rough draft notes indeed have it as “Walking on a wave, she came”-which note unlike the mondegreen at least rhymes). Justin himself has been guilty of that too, from Question:
I’m looking for someone to change my life
I’m looking for a miracle in my life
A release from my strife?
He was indeed scheduled for some dates in Ohio, sigh…
[Annnd of course the ELO song randomly plays off of my daily playlist here…]
This bit confused me for a moment – Jon Anderson, who was Yes’s vocalist for close to 40 years, was Lodge’s contemporary. And, then, I remembered that the current singer for Yes is also named Jon (Davison); Wikipedia indicates that Davison is, in fact, Lodge’s son-in-law.
Isn’t life strange?
A turn of the page.
RIP John Lodge
Hard to believe that the Moody Blues were not inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame until 2018 - over 50 years after Days of Future Passed was released. The Hall should be embarrassed.
The RaRHoF appeared to have a long-standing bias against progressive rock and related bands; fans of those bands believed that this was largely due to the personal distaste for the genre held by Jann Wenner (Rolling Stone founder and key force behind the HoF).
The Moodies, Genesis, Yes, Rush, and ELO were all arguably way overdue for recognition, but the dam broke around 2010, when Genesis was voted in, and the rest all got in over the succeeding few years. Heck, the Moodies weren’t even nominated until 2018!
Does Patrick Moraz not get at least partial credit?
And Jethro Tull & King Crimson are still on the outside looking in.
That’s a complicated story. (But technically you are correct)
And Emerson, Lake & Palmer, for that matter.
Ha! I came here to say “and Timothy Leary’s still dead.” That’s the song I most associate with John Lodge, for some reason. (He’s memorable in the video for this.) Also, House of Four Doors.
