And we've past the summer solstice in the MMP

Good morning from the positively melty PNW.

I second what nellie said, additionally we WILL be seeing Death Valley temps today and tomorrow at 109 and 113 degrees respectively. That’s unheard of for these parts and downright scary since so many of the homes don’t have AC. We are not used to these temps at all. Hell, I don’t like it above 70 or 75 degrees, but even those who love heat are saying uncle now. This is just too much. Yesterday, the suet in my suet bird feeder melted! I posted a video of it on FB. The video also features a finch coming to drink at the water dish while I was a mere foot or two away from the feeder and the very surprised chickadee who wanted to alight on the suet feeder and at the very last minute realized I was standing there.

We didn’t drop off the GOV yesterday, but it’s happening this morning. My husband will follow me in the Jeep and we’re taking Polar along so he can enjoy some AC. We’re going to meet my son down in
Tumwater after I drop off the GOV and eat a little something with him. Polar will be ecstatic to see his boy! We’ll return home after that and try to endure the heat. We’re going to give Polar an outside bath today too. It’ll help cool him down and will clean him up.

I’m glad the mini-Mumpfest went well. It sounds nice. I still have very fond memories of Swampfest in which I met Swampy, Bumbazine, and several other MMPers in Seattle, and the time I met FCM and some MMP posters in DC. FCM was kind enough to pick me up at my hotel in Virginia to go eat in DC.

Well, I need to give the posies a good soak and start boiling the potatoes and eggs for tater salad. No way do I want to be running the stove later today.

Mrs. L.A. pulled her air mattress inside and is sleeping in the living room, so I’m out in the catio. Weather-dot-com says it’s 72º. I can’t see exactly what the (fairly accurate) thermometer says, bit it looks like around 65º and there is just the barest circulation of air coming from the east.

Last night it was cooler outside than inside. The a/c has an exhaust hose going out the sliding window. It’s about 4 feet long because it has to be and was getting very hot, so the a/c was fighting against itself. I put a moving blanket over the hose, but not until it was too late. Hoping for a better result today.

Da Missus took down the shade yesterday. Today she’ll either relocate the brackets such that they (we hope) will be easier to get to, or else I’ll add another joint in my arm and get the one screw in on the left side and screw in the right side. One problem in its present location is that there isn’t enough room to ‘pop in’ the left side spindle. We had to put it in first and ease open the right end. Anyway, the shade will be up today and will help keep things cooler.

Now I need to sneak into the house and get another cuppa joe.

Back from breakfast. Lesson learned - don’t order Roxy a meal. She ate a piece of bacon and didn’t touch anything else - there was $5 wasted… :stuck_out_tongue:

We’re about at 80° at 10AM, but I don’t think we’re forecast to hit 90 today - later in the week, yeah, but maybe not today. No matter - I’ve got stuff to do inside. Guess I should get to it.

Afternoon, mumpers! I am home after my night away in the exotic wilds of Northampton. We arrived mid-afternoon and checked into the salubrious surroundings of the local Travelodge. Met up with a friend and took a slow walk through the town to The Black Prince. It’s a small pub from the front and you wouldn’t necessarily think much of it from the street…but it has a huge garden at the back where they’ve built a stage with lights and a decent PA, put loads of bench seating under a marquee so everyone stays dry if the weather turns nasty.

There were two bands on, with a DJ before and afterwards, and table service via an app for drinks. They don’t do food so we went across the road and got pizza after another friend arrived a bit later. Great music, great to see friends again and we had a very good time.

We checked out just before midday and went across the street to a little café that we’ve been to before, had a delicious breakfast with copious amounts of tea, then headed back to the car for the drive home. The tyre pressure warning is on now, so I’ll have to go to the garage and put some air in the tyres tomorrow. No point doing it today because they’re too hot now and I prefer to do it when the tyres are cold for a more accurate pressure reading.

I should probably do some exercise, run the vacuum cleaner over the carpets or mop the tiles…but I Don Twanna! It’ll save for next weekend when I am alone and unsupervised as 'im indoors is going to Scotland so I can do it then. I’ll just have to live in squalor until then.

metalmouse glad the mumpfest went well and you all survived the experience, sorry to hear about the fall though. Hopefully you won’t have too many interesting bruises to remind of your day out!

taters sounds like a beautiful area to drive in. We visited Portland a few years ago on a rail trip from (I think) San Diego on our way up to Vancouver. We did most of it by train, stopped off a few times on the way for a few days here and there, then got the bus for the final bit of the journey across the border.

Take care, all you overheated folks…I won’t be gloating over my 17C/64F, no, not at all.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I need to make brunch, and brine the pork loin(my inner 8 year old boy likes saying loin). I’d offer y’all some of this cool 81 degree air, just run it through the dehumidifier to take out the 86% humidity.

: sops up nelllie puddle, and Ranch water to bucket : :cup_with_straw:

I’ve enjoyed meeting many Mumpers over the year. red’s even still living. Funny that. Remind me to bleach the wood chipper today.

Happy Sunday,
and Happy Birthday to Ripple day.
We’ll go out for ice cream later to celebrate.

I wanted to go to Bruster’s, but my son has to irk tonight and will be sleeping all day. I need help to carry the stuff from there as they don’t have any way to pack up the cones. The best they can do is upend the cones into a bowl. No lids, no bags.
So, I’ll either got to Sonic or Dairy Queen.
If I’m going to carb out, I’d rather do it on the good stuff, but it is what it is today.
The dogs will be happy either way.

Echo was bad again, and I am seriously thinking we may have to stop going.
The dog she got into it with is nice, but the owner is weird, in a creepy way.
I don’t dislike him, but nobody else likes him. I’m not afraid of him at the park, but I sure wouldn’t want to be alone with him in a secluded area.

On a sad note, I found out my neighbors, the two guys next door, are moving. Not so far away, but certainly not close enough to chat (and exchange baked goods) over the fence. The new place is supposed to be ready August 1, but knowing their landlord, the new place probably won’t be ready until December.

I’m glad the mumpfest went well.

:checks wrist: Yes, I have a pulse. :stuck_out_tongue:

Happy birthday to Ripple. Enjoy the ice cream.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I’ve decided against brunch in the park. The only things on the agenda today are packing two cookbooks for shipping and the usual Sunday chores. The remainder of the day will be spent playing fetch with Nelson and sloth.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Morning all. Slept well and have been catching up on matters on-line, think I’m about where I need to be. 84F outside which is warm but much better than many folks, so take care.

I feel fine, since I was bent almost in half anyway trying to get through the cave at that spot, it was only a little ways to the ground and it was more of a slide than a fall. Problem was getting up, I had these slip-on tennis-like shoes that really had no grip on wet stone/dirt so it took several tries (and some help) to get me to my feet. Strangely enough, had to go back past it to get out, just took my time and watched where I placed my feet and didn’t have a problem.

Boo fae, glad you had a great night out with friends.

OK, have rescued the newspaper from out front and need to start solving puzzles. All y’all have a great Sunday.

I fixed Roxy’s dress (the straps were too long so her tiny toddler chesticles would be hanging out!) :open_mouth: I think it’s good to go now. And I’m finishing my daughter’s dress. The pattern calls for bias tape around the neck and armholes, but I made a facing to go around the neck - I think it’s a better finish, plus I didn’t have enough bias tape to do it all, since that’s what I had to use for the elastic around the “waist” which is probably 5" above her real waist. Babby is taking up that space.

Anyway, I took a little break for my eyes to refocus, but I’m about to go back at it. Then I get to make another dress - not today, tho.

Showered, dressed, and almost ready to go. I woke up very early due to heat and have been slo-mo packing. Maybe I’ll snooze on the train. I’ll put in for Uber a little earlier than I planned, as I have a feeling they’ll be busy today. I always have to text the driver to tell them I’m on the east side of the street; for some reason, their GPS wants to send them to the complex across the road.

MetalMouse, glad you’re no worse for wear. Enjoy being stationary today!

Sari, if Echo can’t behave, does that mean Ripple doesn’t get to go to the dog park either? :frowning: And Happy Birthday to Ripple!

red, that sounds like a pretty good day.

FCM, how you do whip out those dresses!

It’s not quite 10 a.m. and 85 º out, heading up to 105. In 48 hours, we’ll all be a lot cooler, PNW Mumpers!

It’s not as impressive as it might sound. Roxy’s dress is just a cylinder with elastic around the top and 2 shoulder straps. I didn’t even have to hem it because I made it from her old nursery curtains (Muppets) and I just used the bottom couple of feet of one curtain.

And the maternity dress had a front, a back, and 2 pockets. I did add facings because I didn’t like their way of finishing it. Now I’m just waiting to hear back from my daughter so I know how much elastic I need to thread thru.

I may cut out the other dress, just because I can. But no more sewing today.

We had some last night too, only we didn’t have any Topo Chico, so we used ginger ale, and we didn’t have any tequila, so we used vodka. But we put in lime juice, so it was almost the same. :grinning:

The shade is up. Yesterday Mrs. L.A. instructed me where to put the bracket, and I was only able to make one hole with a (too long) drill bit turned by hand, and then a screw turned by an angle screwdriver. When that proved to be too big a PITA, she suggested mounting the shade inside the window fram (which is what I thought we would be doing in the first place). Anyway, it’s up and it works. Mrs. L.A. is going to finish painting the wall behind the washing machine and take a shower. Then I can move the washer and dryer back into their places.

So far, the a/c is working well with the moving blanket insulating the exhaust hose.

The chickie-rice soup is simmering so the rice cooks. We should be able to eat in about 30 minutes. Yeah, it’s early, but we didn’t have lunch after a big breakfast. So it works.

And… I’ve shaved and the fire extinguisher is back on the wall. Making progress.

HowdyY’all! We deheathenated, got back to da cave, had a snack, achieved nappage, and an early sup got fixed and et. The biiiiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Chillage now ensues. All is good.

Happy Birthday Ripple!

Flyboy you shaved with the fire extunguisher? How very unnn… disturbin’!

House is cleaned. I irked Gordie by making him move, so I could rollsuck the sun room foot fabric. But I gave him make up cookies.

I thought the same thing.

Bet it kicked like a mule, though.

Mine had some Deep Eddy grapefruit vodka and club soda. So samezies.

Haaht today, I know it’s only 90, so not so much as compared to some of y’all, but still, this is not right for this time of year. I tried to do some reading on the back porch, but that was right out. Kinda wishin I had a cee-mint pond. The neighbors have one, but it’s been filled with trees since I moved here 15 years ago. S’prised they haven’t cleaned it out. They’ve got 4 kids between 13 and 1 years old.

Glad you’re not sore metal mouse.

:raises a glass of ranch water: Cheers doggio!

The talk about mystery authors made me think of Sue Henry, who wrote the Jessie Arnold series and the Maxie McNabb and Stretch series. The first is set in Alaska and features a musher and her Mountie love interest. The second is about a retiree and her dachshund traveling in her mini Winnie. Da Jungle had the second series as a set for $28 for Kindle, so I ordered them. Once I’m finished with my current bedtime book, I’ll get started on them.

Sunday chores are done, I’ve perfected the fish stew recipe (I added celery, onion and carrots to the original fish, tomato and ginger. It was good before, but now vastly improved). I’ve had I bought a hoarder house on in the background all day. It’s a Canadian antique dealer who bought an interesting hoarder house. No drama like you’d expect in an American show like this (the reason that it’s interesting).

See y’all tomorrow!

Bliss! I’m in an air-conditioned hotel room after an air-conditioned train ride up here. True, the train was very late and very slow. They said due to the heat, the train couldn’t go over 40 mph. Dice, you are so smart. (As if you didn’t know.) Plus we got shunted to a siding due to train traffic.

Here’s a question for MetalMouse and you train experts. When I took the Empire Builder to Chicago, we had to move to a siding and sit several times. I think the conductor said the BN owned the tracks, so freight trains had the right-of-way. Does that sound right? But then, what about other rail lines? Do all freight railroad trains use the same rails? You’d think I’d know this, since I grew up very near the biggest rail yard in the country (at that time). Guess I wasn’t paying attention. Too busy counting boxcars at train crossings.

Silly bear. The fire extinguisher provides the shaving foam!
