And we've past the summer solstice in the MMP

Everybody’s here, and lasagna and bread are in the oven. Bread will be done first, then “noodle cake” as the RoxStar calls it. I’s stahvink, and it smells soooooooo good in here!

How could I have forgotten - my maternal grandparents had a lot on the Magothy River and we’d go there every Sunday in the summer, weather permitting. Various aunts, uncles, cousins, and miscellaneous folk would join us from time to time. I loved that place. When my grandparents got too old to deal with it, they offered it to anyone in the family for a good price, but I was far away in the Navy and none of the locals wanted to deal with it. A few years back, my mom, sister, and I drove by there - someone had built a house on that tiny lot, but the shack my grandfather built in the 40s was still standing! It’s where we stored swim toys and the outboard and a barrel full of bathing suits for guests who might need one.

Good times…

“ Noodle cake” :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: love it! I’m going to teach Hattie that one!

I really am melting. All my beautiful wickedness! I think the meteorologists are drunk. (Easy test: make them try to say “meteorologists.”) It’s hot outside, as in really hot, as it was forecasted to be. The meteorologists insist it’s only 84º. Sure, if you’re lying under a desk in an air conditioned room with any icy martooni in hand, it seems like 84º.

I walked to the salon. He only snipped a tiny bit because my hair is so much better. Then I walked to the gym and had a long workout. You’d think I’d be in better shape with all this walking and working out.

Summer memories: playing in the sprinkler. Squealing when the cold water hits the first time, then playing jump-the-water as it came around. (We had the spinning kind.) Then going inside, cool and happy, with our damp towels and bits of grass clinging to our wet legs.

swampy (or anyone who knows), what’s a lemon sour? I’ve only heard of the alcoholic kind of sours. How it the virgin kind different from lemonade? No sugar???

Mooooom, I’m so glad you ordered the book. It’s one of those books that adults like reading aloud as much as kids like hearing it. I hope you both enjoy it.

shoe, I think plumbers are used to snakes. He sounds like a nice guy. And yay for the no-drip faucet!

sari, good to see you back!

nut, oh, please do the googly eyes and name tag thing! Just the idea makes me laugh. What kind of minimalist existence are we talking about here? Where will you sleep?

MetalMouse, did you have to take a vision test to get the Star ID license? You’ve sure had a lot of stormy weather lately. Is that typical for this time of year?

I had a pretty productive day. I pretended to work, while shopping Prime day. Mrs Magill scored another Instant Pot. We’re stopping with just two. We don’t need any more than that. (I recall saying something similar about kids…) and a Chromebook for me. I scored a new rear bike basket and some saddlebags, so it’ll make trips to the farmers’ market easier, and some clothes.

My knee started clicking when I go down stairs a couple of weeks ago. I was chalking it up as “One of those things that happen as you get older,” but Mrs Magill pointed out that the last time we had done that it turned out to be leukemia. So, just in case it’s actually some rare disease that’ll make my leg fall off, I went to the doctor. Funny thing, Mrs Magill and I have been seeing her for five years, and the doctor just realized we were married, when I made an off-hand comment about how she was feeling better.

MetalMouse - We look forward to seeing you this weekend.

sari! :tacklehug: Long time no see.

Summers when I was a kid had a lot going on, mostly unstructured though. We truck farmed, so during planting and picking seasons (most of what we sold commercially was winter squash, so just the usual garden work most of the summer) we were put to work. Usually in July, we parked the camper at one of the local lakes for the month and Dad would drive to work from there. Us kids cut grass and other things for pocket money. Summer also involved at least one trip to King’s Island or Cedar Point and a weeklong fishing trip to Wisconsin or Michigan. Like Moooooom, the nuns expected book reports once school began, but that was never an issue for me, as I was a voracious reader.

I called out of irk today. I had the sinus headache from hell that didn’t let up until the storm began.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Slow day at work, But I had to help sort at Door 43, so that made up for it.
Summer memories? We used to hike through the woods to play full court basketball at the local Junoir High. Or play street tennis(if the ball landed in the Doberman’s yard, it was definitely out).

Sari!
: tacklehug :

I am, and it does. :cocktail:

I’m glad he wasn’t squicked out about touching your snake
#NotCode

Da Missus had a cold meatloaf sanger earlier. I’ve just finished a Spring mix salad w/feta and tomatoes, with that olive oil/balsamic vinegar/garlic/sun-dried tomato dressing I made; and a cold fried chicken leg and 2 wedges of Laughing Cow cheese (sharp cheddar, and garlic-and-herb). And some cabernet sauvignon.

Howdy Y’all! Home from men’s night over to the church house. 'Twas fun. We ate, We drank. We laughed. I also got candles ready for a funeral on Wednesday as well as enlisted some muscle to set up the Parish Hall for a visitation prior to the funeral. A good friend and co-parishoner who had been sick for a long time died on Sattidy. RIP Bob. You shall be missed.

Nellie a lemon sour is club soda, fresh squeezed lemon juice, crushed ice and salt. I have been known to adulterate it with a hefty shot of vodka. They are true to their name. They are sour. However, sooooooo good! One can add a dash or two of bitters should one desire.

Wizard, hope to meetup with you and red as planned. I’ll be taking my laptop with me and I’ll try to keep up with the MMP, even if I don’t post much.

nellie, no vision test needed, at least here in Ali-bama. Just proof (SS Card/Driver’s License/Passport/Birth Certificate, pick any two) of who you were and (utility bills) to prove you did live here. Didn’t take any longer to process than the normal license, if my memory serves. And spring storms are normal here; so far we haven’t got the tornadoes yet, but they are coming…

red, have had sinus headaches before, I ache with you, hope you’re feeling better.

Last bill of the month (gas) arrived today so I took that down to their place and dropped it off, so don’t have that (albeit tiny) worry. Called brother and let neighbors know I’d be gone for a few days.

Everyone take care.

Right, street games. We played football, two hand touch below the waist. Usually about 4 on 4. Pass rusher was on a 5 mississippi count. “CAR!” counted as timeout.

I know a good idea when I see one.

Imgur

@Sahirrnee, great to see you! (vaccinated hugs) Glad Son is working and the dogs are their normal selves. Is outdoor kitty Adam or someone else, and how is Adam (didn’t notice mention of him)?

A new flock of innocent little lambs began training today. Poor things. I tend to be seriously tempted to tell each new batch “flee while you can”.

Checking news on the way home yielded some scary (bleep) happening within a mile or two of Hades Annex this morning. DSP (Dumb S*** Psycho) decides driving on the sidewalk would be fun and intentionally hitting an elderly pedestrian with his vehicle a couple of times would just be even more fun (elderly pedestrian did not survive). Nice bystander stops to aid pedestrian, gets intentionally hit with DSP’s vehicle in turn. DSP takes off and thumps an occupied vehicle not all that far away. DSP decides the thumped vehicle must be further punished for being in the way and starts pounding on it and occupant with a crowbar. Occupant sensibly flees and dives into another car being driven by a security guard. DSP throws crowbar at security guard’s car, embedding it in the windshield, then takes off on foot. DSP has a gun, and at some point winds up in a struggle with another party, and shots are fired (no word on injuries from this). Family member of DSP’s opponent emerges armed and parks at least one bullet in DSP. Is it my imagination or are people losing their damn minds these days?

Got some work done today. Submitted it for publication.

Great! Hope they accept it.

I’ve done this every late-spring since moving to Michigan, and learning 1a.) no, A/C isn’t standard, and 2b.) holy jeebus does it get humid out here.

At 40+ years old, I’m reaching the end of the “sleep comfortably on a concrete slab” era of my life.
But it’s comfy-cool down there. So I do a mini-sleepover for one, with a water bottle, snacks, something to smoke, and a fully charged phone so I can watch dumb videos & play my dumb zombie game.

Oooo, perfect martini. I’ll have try that.

: fingers crossed :

Nettie, :open_mouth:

I was looking for a letter my mother sent me years ago and came across a forgotten stash of thank you cards and letters from students, students’ parents, and paras. I’m sure most teachers have these, but I’d forgotten about them and was really moved and humbled that people took the time and trouble, especially the parents of students who had died.

This got me thinking about all the jobs where people don’t get thank you letters. Wouldn’t it be cool to send little notes to those people? One of my fantasies is to be rich enough to send flowers to lots of people who are under-appreciated, like the woman at the drive-through window or parcel workers like doggio or, well, any of you. No special reason, just SURPRISE! You’re terrific!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

nellie, t would be a nice change pace from being Karen-ed all the time.

Morning, mumpers! I’m here in the campus office all on my own - so far I’ve seen the postie and that’s all. The cleaners are around somewhere, or have been, because they’ve left the vacuum cleaner outside the office, unless it’s a hint that I ought to use it!

Looks nice and sunny out there, my phone says it’s 14C/57F which sounds fine to me. I expect it will warm up later so should be toasty when I get to walk back up the hill to the station, and have the half-hour walk from the end station to home. Then it’s grocery shopping night, so even more excitement to look forward to!

*nut the pet mould definitely needs googly eyes and a nametag, it will feel so neglected otherwise.

sari good to see you around again!

swampy condolences on the loss of your friend

wizard I am considering getting rid of my IP, I bought it on a whim a couple of years ago and barely use it, it’s sitting in the kitchen taking up space.

Ho hum…my inbox is filling up with stuff I don’t want to deal with. I think I’ll put it off for a bit and make a nice cup of tea instead.
