And we've past the summer solstice in the MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and rainin’ with a predicted high of 82 and rain for the day. A good day to stay inside and drive and hone sloth skills. That is pretty much the plan of the day. Sup shall be sketties 'n meatballs, sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.

Sari!!! ::tacklehug:: welcome back! Yay for Sah-son gettin’ a job. Glad to know Echo, Ripple, Adam Cat etc. are keepin’ you on your toes. Come back with more tales.

Henceforth, I shall refer to lasagna as noodle cake.

MetalMouse have a safe trip and enjoy your mini vacation/mumpfest!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Good morning one and all.

I’m sorry to read about your friend, Swampy.

We hit 90 yesterday, but it’s supposed to cool down “mid-week”. It definitely became uncomfortable up in my WFH office, but I survived. The weekend, however, is supposed to be HOT, HOT, HOT according to the latest weather reports. Ugh.

Twas another crazy day full of interruptions and HALP ME NOW emails, along with a continued spate of lack of guidance on the whole timecard fiasco. We were asked to hold off on submitting timecards for another day until further guidance comes out. The thing is, noon today is THE DEADLINE to ensure we actually get paid, so I will be submitting whether there is guidance or not. They can damn well do corrections if they’re that worried about it. Silliness, lack coordination and communication!

Ah well, only three more wake-ups, and then it’s the weekend. I will try to find some way to beat the heat, but I’ll have to take Polar with me. Poor guy was just beside himself when we got home on Sunday evening after being gone most of the day. He’s used to someone being around, so when we’re both gone he is wildly unhappy. I still haven’t found a lab, but I think I just need to make an appointment at the humane society and get on down there. Waiting for my husband when he wants to go has resulted in inaction.

I got received my annual escrow notice yesterday and was not pleased. I was expecting maybe a couple hundred dollar shortage, especially since I’d paid extra on my escrow a few times during the year; nope I was I was unpleasantly surprised to find that I had a nearly 600 dollar shortage. The increase in property taxes just killed the escrow account, I guess. Ironically, the cost of my insurance had gone down. Rather than watch my monthly house payment climb, I opted to just pay the shortage all at once. It’s not money I was planning to spend, but what the hell, best to rip off the band-aid and deal with the pain one time.

MetalMouse, I really hope you enjoy your trip!

Sari, good to see you again.

Well, time for another cup of coffee and more news reading.

Happy Toosday!

It was a chilly, wet, and rainy 67 degrees at the park this morning. Not surprising that only 3 of us showed up. I wish I had grabbed my hoodie on the way out.

Messy, messy day yesterday. We had a storm hit around 4:30. Power was out until 7:30. My tree lost a ton of branches. One hit my truck but no damage that I can see. However, my poor neighbor, just got a brand new bright red 2021 Camry. He probably hasn’t had it for 2 weeks yet. It was not so lucky; it has a big dent in the back end. Most of the branches off my tree landed in the neighbors’ yard, huge pile, higher, than my head. Also pulled his wires down, but he still has power.
He thinks my homeowners’ insurance will pay for his car, but I’m not sure. I’ll call them, but I think they are going to say his auto insurance will have to cover it. I’ll pay the lawn guy to come out and clean up the mess. Not today though, it’s still raining.
I’m luckier than some, my friend’s stepchildren’s mother’s tree got struck by lightning, half the tree is in the street and the other half is resting on her roof.
Another friend was out when the storm hit, he said driving was like playing dodge ball with branches.

Sah-son got a job in a warehouse. My friend told him to come in for an interview, and so he was hired. Basically, all he needed was a pulse. Everything up here is desperate for help. The pay is not too bad, $19/hour to start. (as opposed to Tractor Supply, which is paying $26.60 if you work weekend nights) Good benefits. It’s hard irk though, on your feet for 12 hours. The schedule is weird too, 3 days on, 4 days off, 3 days on, 1 day off, 3 days on, 4 days off, 3 days on, 7 days off.
If he ever irked a full shift, well he still couldn’t support me in style. If they get done early, they can leave, so he has yet to irk a full 12 hours. He told me to take his checks and apply them to the principle of the mortgage. It’ll be his house when I go, so the sooner it’s paid off the better.

He chose the night shift, since he likes staying up all night and sleeping through the day anyway. I have a hard time sleeping the nights he irks. Every little noise wakes me up, and I never know when he is going to call for me to come get him. He’s supposed to get off at 7am, but he has called me as early as 3am to let me know he’s done.

Adam is doing well. He hates me. Ever since I tried to pill him that one time years ago. The outside cat is Antlers, the one with the half missing white tail. She is still very shy, can’t get near her. Echo is coming up on 2, and she is not so hyper as she was. Very bratty, though. Ripple is just chill as ever.

The Humane Society up here just raided a hoarder house. They took out 91 dogs and 21 cats. It looks like most of the dogs are some kind of terrier mix. Very cute, and most of them looked to be well fed and healthy. I think about putting in to foster one or two, but then I’m not sure. My yard isn’t very big. I know Ripple would be cool with it, but Echo has a tendency to get a bit nasty to other dogs she doesn’t know.

We have to go out to pick up groceries today. It’s so yukky out there, but Sah-son goes back to irk tomorrow and needs stuff for his lunch.
I’ll call the insurance company around 10. I think that is when they open.

Have a fun trip MetalMouse

Sorry about your friend Swampy

How scary is that crap Nettie

Sari: sorry about your tree; the cleanup, the insurance headache, ugh, I feel for you.

There was an estate sale in my sub over the weekend so I thought I’d check it out. Turns out it was across the street from a former friend who was having a garage sale so I stopped and visited with her. She’s been walking almost every day this year, even in zero degree weather. I lasted until the third week in February but the frigid temps did me in then and I haven’t walked very much since. So she inspired me and after reading yesterday’s additions to the MMP, I hauled myself up, had half a blueberry bagel with cream cheese then went out and power walked 2 miles. Going to jump in the shower now then meet up with a former coworker for lunch at a place called Three Cats. It’s supposed to be iconic. Then am intending to go to the lingerie store out that way.

Have a great vacay, metalmouse. We visited Nashville for the first time on our way back from Madrid Gras in 2019 and had a great time there.

Tried to edit post and it said I waited too long.
Anyway, that was on the way back from Mardi Gras. I’ve never been to Spain. Darn autocorrect.

Off work today & tomorrow. Not even 11 a.m. and I’m bored out of my skull. If I cross stitch any more I’ll go blind; if I drink any more my liver will explode; I’ve caught up on laundry and rat tubs; there’s only so much Netflix one human can watch.

Whipped out the laser pointer for Monkey - that was good for minutes of fun.

I do need butter, and drinking water, so I guess an exciting trip to the Gettin’ Sto’ for retail therapy is on the agenda.

Today is lovely, unseasonably cool and bright, which is wonderful. Also, we got our lights back on at 10:30 last night, which was nice, if only because I could better see to wash the interior of my fridge. I hate, hate, hate seeing all that food get thrown out. It really brings home how much food we have. I’m pretty good about using most of it, but not all, and it was humbling seeing how much we contribute to overall food waste. Also, I never realized just how much the sound of the A/C drowned out my husband’s snoring (it’s not terribly loud, just unpredictable).

shoe, your sleepover for one sounds like an amazing party. And I feel you on the cross stitching; sometimes I’ll knit for a few hours and look up and everything’s blurry, glasses be damned.

I’m so sorry to hear about your friend, swampy.

The glass for my display case came in. Some of you mentioned wanting to see it when done, so here it is. It’s for a local bar and grill to display hats and t-shirts and such.

I also made them a host stand.

They picked the stain, it’s a bit dark for my personal taste.

Work was busy, and of course they published the wrong schedule. Also, if you ordered something for Prime Day, know I hate you.

VanGo, nice stand!

Safe travels, MetalMouse

Sari, yeah, warehousing isn’t the most comfortable. But you get to avoid the Karens. And sorry qabout all the storm drama.

Sorry about Bob, swampy.

We get a minute under 16 hours of daylight today.

Sunrise: 05:12
Sunset: 21:11

Gorgeous work! I’m always amazed when people can create real stuff like that. So visa, you are amazing! [and I agree, the stain is a bit dark]

Wouldn’t have been my choice, either, but I guess it depends on the rest of the decor.

Highs in the mid 60s, and lows in the low 50s. Cool-ish, not too much sun. Why didn’t I move here years ago??

But… but I have a cold water station for the delivery drivers.

Nope, I did not and will not. Keep sending the love, I could use it.

What if my dad offered to order something FOR me.
Do I get partial credit? Half-hate?

Oh, the thing on order isn’t heavy, either. It is, however, delicious.

Should be a lightweight, easy heave:

I cannot emphasize enough how delicious (and convenient!) these things are.

Um, WTF??

Guy with a clipboard and some folders just rang my doorbell, asking for {{ name I don’t recognize }}

Me: “Uh. No? Must be a previous tenant, I guess.”

Guy: "How long you lived here?’

Me: “A year.”

Guy: “Okay. Guess I’ll keep looking.”

As he was walking away, I saw the gun in his holster.

Not a cop, nothing municipal. Private investigator, maybe?
I was so taken aback - and didn’t feel like attracting attention - so I didn’t ask. Now I’m … unsettled.

Dammit, I was finally working up an appetite after not eating for a couple of days. Was thinking Mexican (fartfest to follow!) but that was just too weird.

Yesterday the world ended.

Well, just about felt like it. We had ping pong sized hail hitting our new glass-in patio and it was not fun. See this video for an idea of yesterday evening’s fun.

I was in New Jersey for the 1993 Storm of the Century. I was in eastern PA for Hurricane Sandy. I remember the storm when the Hood Canal bridge sank. This storm frightened me more, and I’m a bit nervous about having more hail. The tomato plants are stripped bare, as is the basil plant.

From Sunday’s hail, the damage estimate for Switzerland is 11 million CHF.

For Monday’s? 54 million CHF. And the season’s just starting.

No building damage, but we need to improve the drains, as the drainage was trying to take out the stones underneath the paving slabs on the patio.

So I’m enjoying a Boulevardier (1 oz each of rye whiskey, sweet vermouth and campari in a tall glass), to which I’ve added sparkling water (san pellegrino) and ice. One’s enough for me. It’s tasty without the water, but I’m lazy, so I just added the water in.

My summer memories?

Walking to the library and joining the summer reading club. We also watched movies in the basement of the library - I think it’s the only time I’ve watched Yellow Submarine.

Mowing the grass, weeding the strawberries and picking the strawberries. My parents are big believers in taking advantage of an innocent kid’s question, “can I help?”. I do mean that in a positive way. They never excluded me, so I got to try things (cooking eggs, for example) as soon as I was big enough.

Driving across the country. We did this a few times. Probably went to Kings’ Island about every 2-3 years when I was little. Wasn’t very far from my grandparents

Going camping. My parents took me camping for the first time when I was 3 months old. We went 3-4 times every year, including a week in Eastern Washington. Fun times. As I got older, I would go camping with Girl Scouts, and even worked as staff some years.

Tomorrow I have my follow up appointment with the ear doctor. I don’t think my tinnitus is much better, but we’ll see what the hearing test says.

I didn’t, but no promises about my parents. The only things I ordered were hand-delivered. Finally figured how to gift booze for my parents, who live in a state that doesn’t allow booze to be shipped.

Not all that minimalist. Luckily a couple I know who usually have a lodger, and also rent out a house a few streets away have more than one room going. They were planning on redecorating, but haven’t got round to booking anything, so are OK with me moving in flexibly while I try and find something near my new uni (I feel a bit old to live on campus), which is very very handy.
I’m stashing all my books, most of my cooking gear, winter clothing and anything else I can live without for approximately 2 months in someone else’s garage, so save boxing it all up twice.

Sari and umm… I can’t remember your nickname and Die just feels wrong- The? sounds like there’s some scary storms going on, glad you’re both OK and weren’t out in it. I think the most dramatic storm I’ve been in was one with reported 4cm hailstones once- certainly wider than my big toe, I took pictures. It was in Australia- you expect Australia to try and kill you. It’s kind of known for it. I was staying at a backpackers; the hail smashed the porch roof, but people were trying to hold drinks out in it to catch the ice cubes…

We had sunrise at 4:39 and sunset will be 21:20 today, though it’s been really gloomy all day, and barely cracked 60 in 'Murrican temperatures. I prefer it cold to hot, but I wouldn’t say no to a little bit warmer’n that.

Greetings from my mom’s living room! We had a lovely 2 hours at the aquarium. Roxy was sooooooooo excited! It rained as we were driving here but it stopped a bit ago so Roxy and her mama are in the pool, mostly to tire the kid out!

Not a lot going on here. We had burgers for lunch and we’re going out for supper, tho I’m not sure where. Our zoo tickets are for 10 and it’s about 40-ish minutes from here, so we a can sleep in, theoretically. And with luck, we’ll be back home before rush hour traffic.

Yep, exciting happenings…

:joy::joy::joy:

Actually, those days sound delightful. Can’t wait for the RoxStar report.

Sounds like a win for all concerned~glad you’ll have a felicitous landing place while you look.
