And we've past the summer solstice in the MMP

Ugh, sari, that sounds incredibly draining. My sympathies; I’m sure she’s calling for a friendly voice to talk to, but I know that doesn’t help you.

For all who inquired, I couldn’t get woody out yesterday despite trying for quite some time; however, after I walked away for a bit and came back he was no longer there. So…either a neighborhood cat or other similar predatory critter got him, or he managed to find his way out. I hope it’s the latter.

We had lots and lots of thunderstorms last night from about 3:30 until just a few minutes ago. Overlygirl climbed into bed with us for about an hour until the worst of it had died down. Anyway, I’m up, showered and innovatin’.

In related news, our higher ups just realized a week ago that even a year after the spinoff, they’ve never rolled out what it is we do. When us peons have asked, “But what are we actually selling?” said muckety mucks repeat the name of our company and a bunch of random buzzwords. They were shocked - shocked, I tells ya - when they learned from clients that people don’t want to do business with us unless they know what we’re selling. You know it’s bad when your Important People receive talking points that say, “Stop repeating buzzwords. They’re meaningless.” I’m torn between dusting off the resume and pulling up a chair and popcorn. Probably best to do both.

*ugh* It’s 06:45, and it’s already 65º. Gonna be a hot one – and it’s going to get hotter. Forecast is for 83 today, 88º tomorrow, 93º Sunday, and 94º Monday. I heard Seattle might hit 102º on Monday, but I’m not going to be there. It’s supposed to start cooling down Tuesday, but the forecast is still for 83º up here in almost-Canada by the beach. I think most people don’t have air conditioning. We have a portable a/c in the living room that works fairly well. I have to remember to empty the bucket.

So much for my tentative plans. FCD wanted to take his car to the fancy car wash to get it done inside and out. I needed bias tape from JoAnn’s and a few things from WalMart, which are near the car wash, so I rode along. When we got home, I tidied the kitchen, loaded the dishwasher, and called for a mammogram appointment - 7 minutes on hold!! And the first available slot was July 23! But I’ve got an 8AM appointment, which suits me fine.

Now I’m having leftover shrimp mei fun with some garlic sauce mixed in for a bit of a kick. When I’m done, I’m going to cut out both dresses and maybe start sewing. They’re super simple patterns - a front piece, a back, and 2 pockets. One has sleeves, sorta - I need to modify that one. And with luck, I’ll have enough fabric left to make a matching top or sundress for Roxy.

Guess the rest of my day is now planned.

Afternoon, mumpers! Just a quick drive-by, throwing out hugs as I go…work has been insane this week, and will be even worse next week when all our exam boards take place. I honestly don’t know whether I’m coming or going, and will probably meet myself on the way back!

Happy Friday!

All I know is I had baked beans (right out of the can) on toast for supper last night and I thought “I’m turning into @scareyfaerie !”. It was a pleasant thought.

Sari Aw, I miss having bees. It’s gonna be at least a year or so before I’m in a position it’ll be even faintly sensible to get them again…

BBBooo Did you not heat them up? *tuts in British*

2 weeks to go until moving, and I’m yet again realising how much junk I have… It’s honestly amazing how much can fit on one tall bookshelf.

Only read about in the book (books?) by Nevada Barr and it seems like a fascinating area.

That’s not right. Especially before July 4th, the traditional start of summer. Drink lots of water (which I’m sure you know) and hope you can stay in an air-conditioned area.

Have to go take a look at Nellie’s thread about surviving an MRI, as I have an appointment on July 5th due to sudden, asymmetrical hearing loss and tinnitus which hasn’t cleared up after six weeks of treatment. The doctor wants to make sure there’s nothing there causing the problem. Not looking forward to it all.

Read lots, don’t remember all the details, so hugs to everybody who needs one.

Sorry. Yes, I did heat them up~can I get back in your Brit good graces? Microwaved them, if that counts. Saving a serving for lunch in a bit.

So I got asked to stay late, and help unload the late air. And it was all OT. The next round* is on me.

[Carl Spackler]This is a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff. [/Carl Spackler]

sari, that sounds like a delightful commute.

FCM, you have an awful lot of dreams about murderers. Do you have a dark secret you’d like to get off your chest, maybe?

I’m starting to wonder how many husbands she’s had.

You’ve been widowed three times? What happened?

My first husband died of eating poison mushrooms, my second husband died of eating poison mushrooms, and my third husband was shot to death.

Shot to death! Why would someone shoot him?

He wouldn’t eat his mushrooms.

Hey, it’s not like I’m dreaming that I’m a murderer. I’m a victim, or an innocent bystander, or a disinterested observer, or something… :stuck_out_tongue:

Just the one, and he’ll be the only one. I’m too old to train up another one. :stuck_out_tongue:

First preggo dress is assembled and my daugther was just here trying it on. I need to put in the casing for the elastic, then finish the armholes and neck and hem it. But I’ll leave that for tomorrow - I’m sewed out today.

Time to gather all the crap together and decide if I’m going to cook or if supper will be a bowl of cereal.

That is acceptable, yes.

Eating beans straight from the tin sans heating is only socially appropriate if one is a student and it’s approximately 2am. Otherwise it is not couth.

And, as is no doubt clear by now, boo is all about couth.

[my ipad kept wanting to autocorrect to ‘couch’ instead of ‘couth’. That would also be what I am all about, dawn to dark.]

I will, and both days, though I’ll return home Monday, when it’ll be 106º here, and I’ll get back during the hottest part of the day. I seriously considered taking MetalMouse’s suggestion and staying an extra night in a hotel, but yikes, the expense, plus my train ticket is nonrefundable. I’m hoping if I take frequent cool showers and lie about, I’ll be OK.

I made it over to the gym–only 90º out there now–and didn’t keel over there or back. I plan to get over there early tomorrow, as it’s going to get up to 100º . At least the gym has a/c. I thought about taking the bus there, but there are no bus stops near the gym. Ah, well, this, too, shall pass.

I sure got lots of good advice in that thread–Dopers aren’t dopes! The best thing I did was ask my doc for a sedative. I highly recommend that. And fingers crossed you get good news and treatment that works! Let us know how it goes.

Call yourself the Queen of the Couch. A good queen doesn’t abandon her country except when absolutely necessary, e.g., to get royal vittles, so you have a ready answer for anyone who questions your affinity to said sofa. Also, as a queen, you can use the Red Queen’s (in Alice Through the Looking Glass) wonderfully concise line whenever some knave raises an eyebrow: “Off with her head!”

flyboy, I needed that laugh and will be retelling that joke. Thank you.

If it’s OK with you, may I have mine on a table? Just in case flyboy or someone makes you giggle.

The hex lap robe from hell is done, finally! There’s a pic on FB if anyone cares.

I may mosey back to bed soon - I’s tahred!

I’m sorry for your loss nellie. As far as reusable grocery bags go, most of mine are cotton or ramie canvas. They’re sturdier and do biodegrade once I’ve worn them out. I do have some, mostly coming with Marketplace buys, that are the polyester ones. I tend to get rid of them when I sell something or someone needs a bag to take with them. :smiling_imp:

dicey, I like Nevada Barr’s Anna Pigeon series too. I’ve actually been to some of the parks / wilderness areas in them.

Irked, came home, took Nelson to the dog park ( his buddies Bentley and Jersey were there, as well as a 4 month old Havanese named Wookie). We swung through the drive thru for ribs after. Coming out of the park, there was a man coming from the big dog side with a greyhound and a bulldog. The bulldog (Mack  ) looked like a very poor specimen of bad breeding. He was only three years old, had a crippled hind leg, a jaw that was even more undershot than most bulldogs and terribly red eyes. He was a real sweetie though. The owner said that he was a rescue from a puppy mill breeder. Those @$$holes should be shot.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I love her books. Going to one of the Parks in one of her novels is on my bucket list. All of her Anna Pigeon mystery books are so evocative about the heroine’s setting and life. I heartily recommend for a rollicking good read. Any of ‘em, all of ‘em.

Evening all. Have made it to the bustling metropolis of Clarksville, TN (well, at least more bustling than any other place I’ve been on this trip). Spent many hours at Shiloh, then after a quick McBurger and Fries, headed north to Dover, TN, with a stop-off at a Civil War Battlefield I had never heard of (or didn’t remember)… Parker’s Crossroads. Finally meandered into Dover and explored Fort Donelson. By that time it was 3:30pm and 86F so I called it a day and made it to Clarksville. Dined at the Tilted Kilt (think Hooters with bikinis and something that looked almost nothing like a kilt). Food was ok.

Tomorrow have an appointment for a cave tour here in town, then will meader over to Nashville and finally meetup with Wizard and red. Question, @Maus_Magill; I know you said they didn’t have food at this place, so I bring my own or eat early, how about seating…do I need to pack my own chair? Really don’t know much about it, but if you’re in a Blue tent by the barn, look for a balding guy with a scraggly white beard about 4pm.

Have read all but barely processing things–Sari and the dogs, talky and the idiots in charge, FCM with the appointment, nellie that I’ll worry about in the heat (again, see if your town has places to go for folks like you without AC that you can cool down at), BBBoo and Nut and beans…not much else has taken hold. Everyone take care.

Hope you have a good night’s sleep and enjoy a wonderful mini-mumpfest tomorrow. Can’t wait to hear the stories!
