*Andy Hallett, who starred as Lorne (“the Host”) on the TV series Angel, died of heart failure last night at age 33, according to his longtime agent and friend Pat Brady. The actor passed away at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles after a five-year battle with heart disease, with his father Dave Hallett by his side.
Hallett, from the Cape Cod village of Osterville, Mass., appeared on more than 70 episodes of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff, Angel, between 2000 and 2004. The accomplished actor was also a musician and sang two songs (“Lady Marmalade” and “It’s Not Easy Being Green”) on the Angel: Live Fast, Die Never soundtrack, released in 2005.*
He was only 33, meaning he was just a year older than me when *Angel *ended. Shit.
I always thought he’d be one of those actors that would make it big on some other show without the makeup and I’d IDMB him and go “Ohhh! That’s Lorne!!!”
Very sad in a real life way, but you’re all crazy. he practically ruined angel with his ridiculous character. He stood out on the show like if you put kermit the frog into batman.
That’s quite freaky. I’ve just started watching Angel (just into season 2) and when I saw the thread I thought “Was Lorne the Irish guy from the start of season 1?” Clicked on the article to see I was mistaken, only to find out that actor of the Irish guy (Doyle) died in 2002. Is there some weird vampire curse going on?
Lorne was just the type to annoy self-important folks with sticks up their asses. He was good at making people really look at themselves–he could “read” them pretty well even when they weren’t singing karaoke. But there are still haters out there–it’s not easy being green.
Everything I’ve read indicated that Andy Hallet shared some of Lorne’s qualities, besides the singing voice. At cons, he was funny & down to earth. I’d wondered why he hadn’t appeared in other shows after Angel ended; apparently, he’d begun having problems with his health. Far too young…
