Our fears were true. No happy relationships in the Jossverse, no way, no.
So, we have to wait till next week to see where this is going. I hate cliffhangers, but I just knew during the last 15 minutes that they weren’t gonna wrap this up this week.
Some thoughts:
They used Gunn, but the interaction in the white room might point to him being almost on the dark side as it is. And did he kill Knox?
The guardian was a cool guy. I want more backstory. What is he? Why can’t he lie?
I can handle Eve in such small servings. But how come she knows so much? And does the story imply that Lindsey will be back?
I wonder if they’re going to change the credits for next week, showing Amy Acker as blue demon?
Nice to see Lorne showing more power.
Wes shooting the guy in the leg… I think it’s a bit out of character. A warning shot near the feet would have been better. Or have the guy carry a binder and let Wes shoot it out of his hands.
Vamps in planes. Fun.
Not much more to say, as I think next week is going to be more interesting. This was only the set up.
Looks like they’re building up to a great series finale. Maybe the team will be taken out one by one until Angel is only one left. Great use of Lorne this episode. To bad they haven’t used him more in the past like.
As it is my birthday i couldn’t have asked for a better present than a Joss written and directed show. I like this new angle with Fred, and i don’t know where they are going with it…but so far does it remind anyone of willow/dark willow? Maybe it’s just the hair change.
Pretty fair episode, but a bit too maudlin for my taste. I found myself being a bit irritated at the extreme anguish at Fred’s illness, when we didn’t get to witness any mourning at all for Cordelia. I realize it’s because the shows were only weeks apart, but still. Of course I’m prejudiced because I liked Cordelia far more than I ever liked Fred.
That said, I agree about the Guardian. Interesting guy, and I hope we see more of him.
I believe they’ll find a way to bring back Fred. They didn’t know at the time that this season was going to be the last, and I find it difficult to believe they’d off the only female regular left on the cast.
Liked the vamp bonding between Angel and Spike when they were taking on the swordsmen. “Thought you’d forgotten.” Anyone want to hazard a guess at how they actually did what they did? Almost like they were stretching a wire between them.
Oh, and Eve was just pitiful. Let her die, already.
Hmm… I seem to remember the Guardian from somewhere. The one thing that sticks out is that he didn’t want any questions. It was because he is incapable of lying. Maybe someone can help, but I feel like he’s been in the Jossverse before.
As for the book Wes was reading, I’m pretty sure it was “The Secret Garden.” Could be wrong though.
I hope Gunn did kill that damned creep. Doing that to Fred! Grrrrrr!
Just where is Willow, anyway? It seems to me that this sort of event would be right up her alley, magically speaking. And isn’t the Well located near the coven that retrained her after she went all DarkWillow freaky? (Note I did not say that she’d been revamped.) Seems to me they’d try to get a message to her.
The book Wesley is reading is A Little Princess, which was my original thought before I thought it had to be The Secret Garden, so I went and checked and it was A Little Princess. About the third paragraph into the book, too.
Why yes, I do own both those books. I’m happily collecting books that I have fond memories of reading when much younger. Recently I acquired The Enchanted Castle, and I just found out that the 3 Mad Scientists Club books have been reprinted recently, so I’m gonna get me the second and third ones. And then I have a few I need identified and sooner or later I’ll remember to post descriptions and see if anyone recognizes them.
Well I’ve been spoiled on this ep for weeks and I pretty much started crying during the teaser. And then I cried during all the Spike/Angel scenes. And then I bawled like a baby when Fred said “I walk with heroes…” and Wes replied “You are a hero” and then I cried some more when Angel said “Well you have two right here” and then I sobbed when Spike said “There’s a hole in the world. Seems like we should have known…”
I know some people didn’t like Fred, but I fell in love with her when we met her in Pylea and then that was cemented when (I forget the name of the ep. The one where Angel has a body switch with the old guy) she cried in the elevator because she was heart broken about Angel/Lilah…sniff My poor, sweet Fredikins. I was sad when Cordy died, mainly because I have more history with her but Fred…Fred is my girl.
I thought this ep was brilliant. I thought Joss was in top form. I laughed, I cried, I laughed, I cried, I laughed, i cried and then I cried some more…
AFAI could tell, Angel and Spike stretched wire between their hands, and cut the first two attackers down.
Great episode all around, agreed. Although if I could have changed one thing…
During the scene in which Gunn meets up with himself in the White Room, I would have preferred if the new contact would have been Gunn as he used to be. Street clothes, temperamental and brash, and without all the “social graces” the new Gunn has put on. It would have been a little starker look at all the changes he’s willingly put himself through.
A lot of the dialogue seemed a bit repetitive, Fred is so wonderful, we love Fred, Fred can’t die seemed to go on and on. We get it, go save her and shut up already.
Gunn singing Gilbert and Sullivan was a great touch, that’s one of my favorite G&S songs. Same goes for Wes reading “A Little Princess” I love that book. The commemorative plate incident was worth a giggle too. It’s all those little moments that make me love Joss and the Buffy/Angelverse.
Fred looks incredibly hot made up as the blue demon. It’ll be nice to see her get to play differently next week too. Hopefully her as evil comes off better than Cordy as evil. I prefer my Cordy shiny and happy (and alive, dammit!)
I saw the episode, but… can someone explain the whole who Knox is thing to me? He seemed to be speaking English, but I couldn’t make heads or tails of it.
He was a worshipper of the Demon that killed/posessed Fred. He came to the place where it was fated to return to (LA), where it got held up by the fact that plate tectonics had shifted since its day, and the sarcophagus got held up in customs (Gunn got it out, guess the brain-juicer guy either was a worsjipper too or was paid off by Knox).
Poor Knoxes. Witty, but both easily dispatched by the forces of good.
Wow. What a sad, sweet, wonderful episode. Obligatory rant: The show’s as good as ever, and it gets cancelled. Blah blah blah. Fuckers. Okay, that’s over.
Favorite line, from Lorne: “…Make like Carmen Miranda… and die.”
I Loved the episode ( I guess I forgot to write that at 1.30 a.m.) but the plot seemed a little thin at points, as LunaSea said. I got the feeling Joss was stretching things to lead up to the cliffhanger and that next week will be more packed with…?
Gee, I almost want to go check spoilers. The suspense is driving me nuts.
The only thing hindering my enjoyment is that it has become expected by now that any happy couple will soon experience tragedy. As such, it loses some of its impact. I didn’t read any spoilers, but as soon as I saw Wes and Fred kissing, I knew they were doomed.
I would have liked to see them stay happy, if for nothing else than the shock value.
