Angelic Voices - a Sunday Evening MMP

Lengthening nicknames? Pshaw. Extra keystrokes?

:dubious:

drae, I just savor the thought of being able to ask someone how their bum is, and not feel…wrong.

How’s your bum?

mika, wanna drive a bus? Didn’t think so.

Cuervo was the hit of the office of course…again. They were telling me that they had a kitten in yesterday just like him. Abandoned, sickly, wormy, fleas and everything. I said well don’t let me see the little booger, I’ll end up taking him home too.

They put him to sleep about an hour before I got there. :frowning: FIP, which is deadly and contagious so there was no choice, but it got Cuervo many neck scritches from the ladies on the staff.

And…I heard his voice!!! You may remember, this is the cat that never speaks. My wife says it’s because he’s so frigging spoiled he never has to ask for anything. Like that’s wrong.

But I put him in the carrier, which he has not seen since he got fixed in March. Take him to the car. Start the car, and hear Cuervo channeling Satchmo in the seat next to me.

Slow down. Turn off the radio, and watch him. Yup, he’s yelling, but it sounds like he’s singing Hello Dolly. He had some respiratory infections as a baby, which I’ve always blamed for his not speaking. He’s quiet and just purring like mad for the doc by the time she came in the room, probably because of the parade of assistants coming in to marvel at The Amazing Grown Up Cuervo. I tell her about the scratchy voice and she listens to his chest and throat again - nothing bad there, we decide he might have some residual thing that makes it uncomfortable or painful to speak.

We’ll keep an eye (ear?) on it, he’ll probably develop some kind of asthma as he gets older, but for now, he’s in perfect health (“Look, how he’s getting a little tummy, isn’t he so CUTE!!!”)

And now, everyone we have to rally some MMP Good Thoughts for my neighbor’s baby Madison. Maddie, seen here with the Kid, and the Kid’s Football Man is almost 4 months old and is going into surgery on Friday. Maddie is the Official Baby Mascot of Our Block. She has some kind of unidentified spot on her lung that the doctors want to look at and remove.

I think all y’all’s good wishes helped me! I’m feeling much better.

I just received this in the mail:

There is a factory in Northern Minnesota which makes the Tickle Me Elmo toys. The toy laughs when you tickle it under the arms.

Well, Lena is hired at The Tickle Me Elmo factory and she reports for her first day promptly at 8:00 AM. The next day at 8:45 AM there is a knock at the Personnel Manager’s door. The Foreman throws open the door and begins to rant about the new employee.

He complains that she is incredibly slow and the whole line is backing up, putting the entire production line behind schedule.

The Personnel Manager decides he should see this for himself, so the two men march down to the factory floor.

When they get there, the line is so backed up that there are Tickle Me Elmo’s all over the factory floor and they’re really beginning to pile up.

At the end of the line stands Lena surrounded by mountains of Tickle Me Elmo’s. She has a roll of plush red fabric and a huge bag of small marbles.

The two men watch in amazement as she cuts a little piece of fabric, wraps it around two marbles and begins to carefully sew the little package between Elmo’s legs.

The Personnel Manager bursts into laughter. After several minutes of hysterics he pulls himself together and approaches Lena.

“I’m sorry,” he says to her, barely able to keep a straight face,"but I think you misunderstood the instructions I gave you yesterday.

Your job is to give Elmo two test tickles."

Free Hockey! The Hurricane had a scrimage tonight, so I went. Took some pictures. The RBC Center was a tad chilly(go figure), I’ll have to dress warmly for Friday’s game.

Rebo, thanks, I sprayed beer on my monitor!

MBG, I think Lucretia got Cuervo’s voice. She yoels all the time. I’ll say some prayers for Madison, and for the MMP walking wounded, too.

y’know - I was right there with you - tales of bitchy cow-orkers and all - and zing! good one

Wow, Drae, I want to hear the rest of the story, too, so don’t let that busted tail stop you! No thanks on the Percocet, though; it makes me nauseous. Vicodin, however, works just fine.

All you sick people! Good thoughts and get-well wishes to everyone; I’m losing track of how many sickos we’ve got right now. (Other than all of us, of course!)

The bear bank and the crab bank, eh, kai? That’s an, er, interesting selection. Sounds like the rest of your shopping is about average for a small town. But you definitely need a Dunkin’ Donuts or a Krispy Kreme. Umm, Krispy Kreme. I got a dozen Krispy Kremes this morning for my periodic grease, empty carbs, and sugar indulgence. Umm, donuts.

Chocolate, cinnamon, and cheddar, eh, LiLi? I’ve eaten some interesting combinations in my time, but I can’t say that’s one I’ve tried. Not that I wouldn’t try it, though; I’m strange that way. I guess that’s why I fit in here, huh?

I’m feeling better - I just belted “Gooch’s Song” from Mame - well, most of it - some of those notes are just too damn high

Quite a testicular MMP today, I notice (yeah, I’m all perceptive like that…).

So, where’s Mr. McCello today? And Spats? I don’t recall giving them permission to ignore us.

Good thoughts and prayers going out for Maddie, the official MBG neighborhood baby… Keep us updated.

Guess I should consider sleepy-bye. Maybe read a book for a while or something…

GT

Cuervo Kitty is seriously cute. Give him a good skritching for me.

I had class tonight and we played with our ropes. It was really fun. Of course I forgot most of it on the way home. I really need to practice.

Me, too. It could be like this every day of the year and I’d be one happy BibKitty. The windows are open and breezes are blowing through the house. I can’t wait to go to bed and snuggle down under the covers.

Dogbutler, I’m jealous. We don’t even have ice yet. I am seriously jonesing for some hockey.

The booster club meeting didn’t go badly at all, and all the complaints (there really weren’t that many) were handled in a civilized manner. I signed up to be a player sponsor, but I don’t know if I will actually get a player. We have a lot of returning players and they will get the same sponsor. Our coach started out as a player, and has had the same sponsor for 10 years!

Hubby’s rash was almost gone when I left for the meeting, but it has returned worse than before. I have no idea what it is, but he is going to the doctor in the morning. He’s taken some more Benedryl so I hope he can sleep without scratching his skin off. His hands and body are covered with itchy, burning blisters. I itch just thinking about it!

Drae - I’m sorry about the tailbone. The cushion really does help, as do the drugs. I’m looking forward to hearing the results of “love story”!

Think I’m going to go fix a drink.

Drae, I’m sorry you broke your butt. That sounds very hurty.

I’m thinking about going back to school. Somebody needs to talk me out of it. I have a bunch of student loans already. I’m not sure how I’d pay for more school.

Bus Guy, I’m sending good wishes for Maddie. I hope the surgery goes well.

LiLi, have you been reading Zits? Jeremy’s been eating his way through the alphabet. It works okay, until you get to X. Z isn’t easy, either. I guess you’d go hungry on those days. But the A day makes up for that–you can have avocados, anchovies, asparagus, apples and even a little asiago cheese.

What should I do with a bunch of black walnuts? I keep eating them, so maybe it won’t even be a problem, but when I get black walnuts, I feel like I should do something special with them. Any ideas?

So your booty is broken after all, Drae. What a…bummer.

(I suck at these things.)

The Guy is seeing a therapist as well. I’m not his only outlet.

I attempted to construct the Bronte shirts last night. Even though I had much advice, I still didn’t get them right. pouts

Good Morning. I am up and having coffee before work. It is a cool 52 outside, my kind of weather.

SCL, they just put the ice down Sunday. It was fun, there were even a few people tailgating. There were 3500 people there, not bad for a week day practice.

grrrr…I just woke up after having fallen asleep fully dressed on top of the bedcovers. Skiffman went to a town meeting tonight, the Federal government is trying to classify Kodiak as urban, (ha!) not rural, in order to take away our subsistence rights. There’s another meeting tomorrow, and he is busy scribbling notes on what he wants to get up and say. I am too fuzzy headed to tell you all what I think of the issue, also this isn’t the Pit.

In regards to doughnuts…sadly, all we have is the Safeway bakery. There is a small coffee shop run by a couple from France. He makes marvellous pastries, but after working there above and beyond the job description for three years the day my #1 daught put in her two week notice they treated her very, very badly, and so I no longer patronize their shop. I don’t think I have seen either doughnut franchises in Anchorage either, come to think of it. I am so deprived.

Oh, skiffman wants to run his notes past me, at freaking 1:30 am. sigh Then it’s into bed in my jammies! See ya later Cool Kids!

It’s a flat, on the third floor (for people who think of the first floor of being above the ground floor; fourth for those who insist in not having ground floors). But in the same building, I have a garage/storageroom with kitchen. They’re very common all through Spain, used for big meetings with family or friends. I’ve seen cases where a group of friends was a tad up to here of one of them but they were reluctant to call him to order because, well, he was the only one to have one of these places…

Kid’s fine. He’s pretty large and very strong. My family never put kids in walkers; SiL’s always has. Ten days ago, I was at my brother’s with some friends and we remarked that they’d moved some furniture: it’s a penthouse on two levels and some items had moved to the upper floor. He said it was because the kid likes to ram them when he’s in the walker. I said “and if he wasn’t in the walker, he’d be ramming into them on all fours”. “Oh, no no, he doesn’t know how to walk on all fours yet.” Well, I didn’t point this out, but it’s no wonder: they never put the kid down! I put him down in July, one day that we were at the pool, and SiL almost had a fit until she saw that the kid liked my towel a lot better than the grass and wasn’t about to go exploring. There was even a report from the Spanish Pediatricians Association saying that kids aren’t learning to walk on all fours because their parents don’t let go of them.

Anyway, later that day, my brother was talking with another one of those friends (whose daughter is a bit older than The Nephew) and the friend, who doesn’t care about not offending SiL since she’s not his SiL :stuck_out_tongue: actually said “well, when was the last time you left your kid on the floor? You can’t know if he can crawl or not unless you let him.”

So that afternoon, while his wife and MiL were in the kitchen, my brother puts a towel on the floor… leaves the kid in it, sitting… kid leans forward, touches the towel… explores it a bit… moves back, achieving a classical all-fours position… and shoots across the room like a 9-mo version of a Formula1!

Good thing he “couldn’t walk on all fours” or Bro would have had to chase him across the ocean  The worst problem that kid faces is overprotection and pampering, really. One of his great-great-grandmothers (I think I didn’t miss any generations) found out at 53 that she had the same condition and died at 96. Mom is not about to remind Bro and SiL of great-grandmother Laura’s kidney but we’re definitely not worried.

Oi, which part of the Basque Country? Town name, I want town name!

Prayers and good thoughts going out to Maddie the BusGuy neighborhood mascot. Not to be confused with Maddy the VunderDog.

Drae, as fun as it would be to hear how this whole thing plays out, I’m thinkin’ maybe you shouldn’t go, what with your busted up butt bone and all. Seems to me camping out would not feel real good. Best to stay home with the butt cushion. That’s just my opinion. Because I care. I’m all nice like that, dammit!

It’s a chilly 55 degrees here in the swamps this morning. BRRR! High will be mid 80’s. This will go on for the next few weeks. That’s fall around here. Really very nice.

it’s a quandry alright Drae On the one hand, there’s being with friends, enjoying nature, and getting in first hand on some potentially juicy gossip (can’t beat it with a stick); OTOH, there’s staying home, vegging out on pain pills, ordering in some chinese, and watching movies all weekend.
hmmm. choices, choices

VunderWife’s idea of ‘roughing it’ is staying in a hotel without satellite TV or room service.

I’m confused, Seems like a long way to go, with a lot of avaoidable pain involved, just to watch a train wreck happen. And maybe you can get a set of those fake ones to your roomies’ love interest. Sounds like he needs a pair.

Her and I are soulmates. Camping out is for the Army and Boy Scouts. I know some people love it, don’t even try to argue it with me, I’m firm on this. Ya know what’s out there, where you’re sleeping? NATURE!!! Nature is all well and good in it’s place, I just need somewhere un-natural to settle in for the night, that’s all.

It’s chilly here too this morning. 47 degrees says the little Weatherbug.

It’ll get to the mid-60’s and be sorta sunny, which works for me. Our district’s insurance guy is holding a turf management seminar today, 8 of us will be going, and it looks like a fine day to [del]mangle[/del] manage some turf.
