Angelic Voices - a Sunday Evening MMP

Here I am! But I promised I’d tell you tomorrow morning.

that’s spooky! I believe in the paranormal. "There are more things in Heaven and Earth . . . "

Well, OK. Just so you know we haven’t forgotten…

Mr. SCL’s rash is not better, but the nursing agency from hell couldn’t/wouldn’t find anyone to cover him so he had to go in to work instead of going to the doctor. Poor baby was even scratching in his sleep! I hope he’s going to go to Doc-in-a-Box after he gets off work at 7. I am scratching in sympathy.

My NP called me last night, but I wasn’t home yet. So now we’re playing phone tag. She said it wasn’t urgent, though. Just tell me already!

My nana called this morning to invite my to my great-aunt’s 70th birthday/sisters lunch on Monday. I haven’t seen my great-aunts since my dad’s funeral 9 years ago, so I’m looking forward to it.

Apparently, my brother has disappeared again. It’s a hard life that he’s chosen, but I guess I have to let it go. He’s not a kid anymore.

Sorry about your brother, Jahdra. I don’t know anything about your brother, but I’ve known enough drunks/drug addicts who do the disappearing act to know how hard that can be on a family.

I hope Mr. SCL feels better soon – I’m itching sympathetically!

Good thoughts to MBG’s Maddy; I hope all goes well for her. And I forgot to properly heap admiration on Cuervo. Such a beautiful boy he is!

Your Tarot reading, Drae, just brought back one of my favorite memories from my misspent youth. I was living in a small town in Ohio about 30 miles outside Columbus, and some friends and I had gone in to the big city one day for something or other. We were all kinda wannabe hippies although not really serious about it, but we had the whole long hair/love/peace/groovy thing going on.

Anyway, so we’re waiting in the Columbus bus station when this hippie couple comes over and asks if the girl can do Tarot readings to help them raise bus fare to somewhere or other. Of course we said yes, so she started with our friend Chris. She was good. Then she started on Jody, but at that point a cop came over and asked if she was taking money for doing the Tarot readings. When she said yes, he told her she had to stop because – as Dave Barry says, I swear I am not making this up – in Columbus, Ohio in 1970, it was illegal to practice witchcraft without a license!

So I never did get my reading from her, but I got a great story to tell instead.

I’ve had an okay day. Stayed up waaay too late last night getting some work done, then had to get up earlier than I like to this morning to go to my first physical therapy appointment. I’d had some bad reactions to a back injection a few months ago, but the swelling has finally gone down to where I’ve just got a bunch of residual muscle spasms making me miserable. So my therapist, who I visit about the Amazing Race and Lost with, diagnosed me with spasms in my piriformis and gave me ultrasound and a butt massage. It felt gooood! And now I have a much happier butt. Not to mention I can actually move without shooting, stabbing pain, which is always nice. And then I came home and have been trying to stay awake ever since. I’m about to give up and take a nap; otherwise how will I stay awake to watch the premiere of Gray’s Anatomy tonight?

Before we forget, caninus servantus has volunteered for next week’s MMP. I’m trusting he still remembers that.

I wimped out and came home. I fixed myself a sammich, took some Benadryl[sup]TM[/sup] and napped for about two and a half hours. I want some more Benadryl[sup]TM[/sup] but I’d rather wait til about seven-thirty or so so I’ll zonk out and hopefully sleep all night.

Hope everybody’s day has been good.

I have a guess as to what you’re doing, but I don’t want to take the chance of being wrong on a public message board. Or of being right and telling the whole world something you’d rather not have everyone know. But I’ve definitely been mulling over what could be going down in Academy Hall. (It really should be called Old School 14!)

We also thought of you over the weekend. We went out for Indian food for dinner, and **KeithT ** ordered the same thing you had that time we all went out way back whenever that was. And it was gooooooood.

It’s been a busy week and every time that I think to myself ‘I’ve got time to catch up on the MMP’ there are another 50 or so posts, so I am still far behind. I’m waiting for a response from head quarters regarding some code right now so I’ve got a little time to catch up and show my face again.

This weekend I plan on going back to that book store for the four Goethe books. I know that I said I was going back last weekend but can you believe that all of the independant bookstores in Grand Rapids are closed on Sundays? I swore the last time I went was a Sunday. Well either way the books shall be mine as of Saturday!

I also found out this week that I am going to be able to manage to fly down to Arizona next month to visit my brother. I am excited because not only is my brother a neat fellow whom I like to see as often as I can, but I also love Arizona. My father is also going to be accompanying me on the trip, which I have mixed feelings about. But my brother hasn’t seen him in over six months and wanted to invite him along, so I shan’t be one to complain.

blasted post sugar high crash - all I want to do now is sleep - and I have rehearsal tonight

I finally talked to my NP. She wants me to stop taking Cymbalta, that it’s what’s screwing with my liver. So I called my psychiatrist - and I reached her! Getting her on the phone is unheard of. Anyway, she’ll call me back, she was with a patient. I hate med adjustments. This one was working, the only anti-depressant that ever has. And then there’s the fact that my other meds are dependent on Cymbalta, or are possibly controlling side affects from it and…shit. It’s a balancing act, and now I’m going to have to rebalance everything. At least I have 4 more days of PTO left this year. I’m probably going to need them while I go through withdrawal. I got the short end of the stick in the gene pool, dammit.

The good news is that somebody left half a cheese pizza (and a gross, icky everything pizza) in the lunch room. Mmm. Cold pizza. With freshly grated parmesan and red pepper. I like! Oh, and one of my managers brought me back a huge chocolate chunk cookie from Starbucks. It tasted curiously like coffee.

Well, Bernie is on The List again. **FCD ** took her out to pee and poo this afternoon as I was unloading my van. I fed the critters, then my sweetie and I went out to dinner. As we were talking, he mentioned that Bernie stopped to roll in something. Which explains why, a few minutes ago when I was petting her, a stench arose. I tried cleaning her neck with a washcloth, but it didn’t do any good. So I gotta load her hairy butt into the bathtub and shampoo her throat area. Stoopit dog.

So I’m off to clean the stinker…

Something very cool happened when I got home from work.

I picked up a 5 gallon bucket of fallen apples last night, and I took half over to the B&B neighbors for their horse. I knocked on the door, and the mom came out she saw me, and I got a surprise bear hug.

“What was that for?”

“Saving my life!”

She’s the woman at the Mayberry VFD Shrimp Fest Saturday that developed anaphylactic shock out in the parking area, and I was the one who was tagged to get the EMTs for her. I found the chief, and he had the means to page them (I only have a 1-way pager, not a radio).

Way cool, Bobbio!

Bernie has been de-stunk. We’ve got a hand-held shower head in the guest bath, so I just had to get her fat butt into the tub and keep her from climbing out. I soaked down her throat and chest, then shampooed her with Suave, so she smells lots better. The hand-held doobie made it really easy to rinse her, and I managed to get the worst of the water out of her coat. She’s damp, but she should dry in short order.

I gave her collar the sniff test, too - it also was gross, so I used the same shampoo to clean it. It’s hanging on a doorknob to dry overnight.

Stoopit dog. At least she doesn’t stink like something dead any more.

And now, it’s time for *Scrubs * on Comedy Central. I love that show…

Jeepers, you people post a lot. I had fun forcing out Christmas stuff all day.

MBG, you, me and Vunderwife are in the same boat. I like my outdoors in small doses.

rigs, have you tried a Lecter style smile? They might leave you alone.

EC, you can’t give up your menbership. For one thing, we’d miss you. Also, the squid won’t release its grip while you are alive.

Drae, I’d stay home and do drugs and ass doughnuts. OTOH, All The Women Henry Slept With Before He Was Married vs. The Wife sounds fun. Or like an episode of Oprah.

Dotty, glad sugarbaby is doing well. If it’s a boy, sounds like he has a major case of shrinkage going on at the moment.

Meeks, we wait with bated breath.

swampy, thanks I forgot. [sub][sub]me and my big mouth[/sub][/sub]

Jahdra, I hope the balancing goes well.

FCM, ewwww. Reminds me of an old Dennis th Menace, “Ruff’s not spoiled, he always smells this way.”

bobbio, good job!

Hey Alistair (I keep wanting to call you Al, but it just doesn’t fit), nice to see you again. Hope you still have fun, even if Dad’s along. (Is it the religion thing that’s making it hard? Maybe the togetherness will actually help? Just [del]nosy[/del] wondering)

Ellen <insert middle name here> Cherry! You are not allowed to leave the MMP. There has never been a requirement that anyone keep up (that would be a rule and we don’t have those here - well, except for the unavoidable “don’t be a jerk” one). I have spoken. And I’m confident that I speak on behalf of the entire MMP. Also, see doggio’s post above. So, there! :stuck_out_tongue:

I miss Rue. And scout. :frowning:

Before continuing, I need to announce that an earth-shaking event has happened chez GT: I mowed.

That is sooooo cool, Bobbio! Here you’ve barely started out in the firefighting biz and already it’s paying off.

Hey, Dotty! Glad to hear from you! Happy sugarbaby appears to be thriving.

(Gimme my pronouns back, dogb! ::Glares in the general direction of NC.:: )

Dinner was a nummy burrita (which is a quesadilla on a flour tortilla with ham and, in tonight’s case, some salsa and avocado). And now, I am genteelly sipping a glass of white wine (Sauvignon Blanc, IIRC).

Sorry to hear about the upcoming med juggling, Jahdra. Hope it goes well. And sad about your brother, too. I’m sure it’s difficult.

So, are you back yet, Meeks? How come we can’t know tonight? (Do you have DSL at home yet, BTW?) Oh, and you owe us an update on your new digs.

Glad they actually have a “How to be a TA” class, Spats. Most schools don’t, and it often results in undergrads suffering through non-learning experiences. How long does it last? What kind of stuff are you learning? Do you get to inflict your mad skillz on your classmates? ::Pointedly ignores previous juvenile remarks about the abbreviation TA. :stuck_out_tongue: ::

I’m guessing it’s still illegal to practice witchcraft without a license here, Mama T. (They’ve still got all kinds of weird laws on the books…)

Sounds like you’ve gotta go on the weekend trip, Drae. Please videotape.

Any chance of Mr. SCL getting a job with a non-hellish nursing agency?

I am not a camper.

I’m a pretty smiley person, but when I’m lost in thought, I get all serious looking. Hate it when people call that to my attention.

OK…I’ve rambled on quite long enough. And I’m tired. So I should go to bed or something. (Which was apparently the cue for Mom to call. Somehow she doesn’t understand that calling me after 9:00 on a school night is a bad idea.)

So I’m off to bed now. Really.

It’s almost Friday!

GT

21 hours till puck drops, and a long day tomorrow, so I’m going to bed

So you’re saying you like hockey, doggio? Who’da thunk it?!

d&r

Ok, so this summer there was this person in my boot camp session who bugged the heck outta me. Her voice was like ground glass on metal. She whined constantly about her state of health or lack thereof. (I mean to the point of asking a fellow student if she should go to the ER for her spotting). She didn’t ask me, thank god.

I avoided her like the plague.
Guess who has been assigned to me for a project?
God hates me. Really bad karma and juju…

Off to bed, I may start mainlining chocolate.

oh, the assignments were done geographically, and since she lives in IN and I live near the state line…I am doomed.*

*some details were changed to protect me. ME, baby, not anyone else. So there. Nyah. :stuck_out_tongue:

Mr. SCL did go to the doctor, who gave him a cortisone shot. The rash and itching were gone within an hour. I am relieved, but not nearly as much as he is.

I have to get up early in the morning to go start setting up the apartments for the hockey players, who are starting to drift into town. This means hockey season is almost here! (Oh hush, dogbutler, it’s not nice to gloat.)

My SIL’s dog got back from boarding at the vet with a huge hot spot on her neck and shoulder. The poor dog gets sick every time she boards at this vet, yet my SIL keeps taking her back to the same place. When she sent me an e-mail telling me about the hot spot, I finally told her I thought it was very unfair to the poor dog for her to keep taking her back - the vet doesn’t seen interested in improving the boarding experience for the dog, just in charging SIL to fix whatever went wrong this time. I’m sure my SIL is not going to be speaking to me for a while. I used that vet once when we first moved here - after he nearly killed one of my cats during a routine neuter I never went back.

Guess I’d better hit the tub and get stuff ready for tomorrow.
