Angelic Voices - a Sunday Evening MMP

But you see, my phunics is Spanish phunics. So the way Jawjans pronounce it, it sounds to me like “Shosha”. Some of that stuff I can recognize relatively easy… others leave me scratching my head and hoping that further posts will lead to figuring it out.

But that’s ok, it only took me about 30 tries to figure out what a Murkin was.

Hey Bibs and other MADDopers: I just found out that I’ll be in Baltimore on business for a few days the week of Oct 24th. Anyone interested in hoisting a couple?

Manybe I can get up a little interest in a mini MMPfest…

So you speak Castilian? If I used the rules I learned in high school Spanish, Jawja would sound like Youya (ou like that in ‘ouch’, not ‘you’)

Hugs for Taters, and prayers and good thoughts and everything else.

Today is shaping up to be horrible. I’m hurting quite a bit, I’m tired, I won’t be going camping, and I came into the office to discover that none of my passwords for our website are working, so I can’t even work. Roomie has engineered an early release from work, so she’ll be coming by the office around lunchtime to take my car (since hers might not make it to Maine and back), and I might just burst into tears and beg her to take me home and shoot me.

I am soooo slow - I finally figured that one out. :smack:
Taters, good thoughts for MIL headed your way.

Ok, so Friday, and here I am. First of all I want to say a big fat sorry to everyone in the MMP, I just haven’t been able to pay too much attention to everyone. You see, I’ve been swamped busy every day this week and so have time to pop in and post briefly but not so much read in detail.

That being said, hugs to all who need, best wishes to all who need, all my love to everybody in the MMP!
Now - last night. Well, I have this OKcupid profile. Before you all start going :dubious:, I have it, honestly, because I love taking quizzes. The SO certainly knows about it, and I have it listed on my profile that I want friends. (Besides he thinks my love for quizzes is silly and kind of cute). (And if you wanted to look me up, it’s under Anaamika). Anyway, someone e-mailed me maybe a week ago and said, “Hey, I was checking out your profile and I see that we are really similar.” I thought, “Yeah, right”, but when I went to check it out, it was amazing - we had a lot of the same tastes. So we started corresponding, and he told me he was part of the local SCA. I mentioned I had thought about joining, but felt awkward just walking in there. He said - Why not come to one of the dance practices? I said…
Dance practice? I am SO there!”

So that’s where I was last night. They use the room free from RPI, and there’s a dancemaster who comes there and teaches everyone. It’s old dancing, sort of medieval, plus some old Italian and Mediterannean stuff.

I was a little embarrassed, because this is the SCA. You know, the people who thin Renaissance Faires aren’t accurate enough? I’m not in it for accuracy, I just wanna have a good time.

And I did. I had such a good time I can’t even tell you. There were people there from age 25 to 60. About half of the people (including me) consistently danced for 2 hours. Some just sat around and chatted. It was maybe 15-20 people last night. If I may say so, 8 years of formal dance training and (at this point) 20 years of folk and Indian dancing really helped and I did really well, too. And everyone was so nice! I came home flying high as a kite. And to top it all off, I paralell-parked perfectly, in the dark, when I got home. Within 2 inches of the curb as a matter of fact.
So not only did I make a new friend through OKcupid, I also found something that I love to do. The next rehearsal is October 5th, and get this. October 6th the BLUE MAN GROUP (cheers wildly) is coming up to Albany. Two years ago when I went to the stupid Pepsi Arena I promised I would never go again until the Blue Man Group came - and guess what happened. So we’re going to go see them. And October 7th my best friend is coming up from Poughkeepsie and we’re gong to see the Albany AquaDucks Tour. Going to be a busy weekend.

So that was my Thursday night!

{{Drae}}

Prayers headed out, Taters. Lots of hugs, too.
Morning. I have to leave soon to go fabric shopping with a particularly crotchety (but nice) friend for Hallowe’een costume fabric. Then I have to make her a cloak. Today. She needs it before next Thursday, and I’m working every day but Wednesday. Maybe I can pick up fabric for my costume, anyway.
Time for tea and homemade gingerbread. A warrior’s breakfast.

Aww, thanks. As it turns out, somebody did screw up all our passwords and just forgot to leave me a note. So at least that part’s okay now.

But there’s still no guarantee I won’t burst into tears at the slightest provocation today. Which will probably be amusing as well as mortifying.

Mika, that sounds like fun! The only reason I never joined the SCA is because I just don’t have the time to devote to something that rigorous. I’d rather buy a bodice than make it, and if somebody wants to look down on me for that, then fine. But dancing? Hey, I’d go too … if I could dance right now.

Drae I know you really, really wanted to go camping and umm… ok, I forgot the other stuff but I know it’s important to you so I’m sorry you have to miss it, but, it’s more important to take care of your broke butt. Cold and damp just doesn’t seem to be a good thing for that. Wow, the week’s worse runon sentence.

Know what’s weird? Having a phone conversation where half of what you say is numbers. Know what’s even weirder? When everybody in on the conversation knows what you mean when you talk in a big long string of numbers. Know what’s weirdest of all? When everybody hears that big long string of numbers, knows what it means and is happy with it. I’m sittin’ here thinkin’, “Did I really just have that conversation over the phone?”

There was a biiiiiig wreck on the main road I take to get to work this morning. I saw the traffic backed up and was able to turn around and take the alternate route, turning my six mile ride into a ten mile (used to be fifteen miles but we have a new road that cut five miles off) ride, which ain’t too shabby. Anyways, I found out a little bit ago what happened. A person in a car traveling north blacked out, crossed over into the southbound lanes (it’s a four lane road with a turn lane in the middle, all urban and sophisticated like) and hit three cars. Pretty much messed up, i.e. totaled, the first two cars and caused injuries to the drivers of the cars. The third car didn’t get totaled and the driver was not injured. The reason I know all this is because I know who was in the third car. She called to tell me about it. It’s a neighbor who lives on the street behind me. We talk from time to time. Said the first thing she thought of was calling to tell me. Nevermind her husband, I’m first. HAH! Ok, actually she told me that she did call her husband first but her real first thought was to call da bear and tell him all about it. I told her that should she feel the need to wander around the corner to the swampcave this evening, there will be plenty of cold beer. I’m a good neighbor to have within staggerin’ distance.

Not as bad as your vicarious accident, Swampy, but I Killed Da Wabbit on the way to work today.

It ran out in front of me before I could swerve or brake, and I heard a thump behind me, so I think I got it with the back axle. I’ll have to look for it on the way home to see if there’s headless bunny in the road…

Drae, sorry you feel so poorly. And that’s kind of how I felt about the SCA, too. I don’t know how laid-back they will be about other things. But at least the dance portion I know I’m good at.

Bobbio, I 'fessed up Thursday night plans, didja see?

Hey everyone. It’s FRIDAY! Hooray! This is my first weekend as a grad student. I’ll be spending it reading and doing homework, of course.

Meeks, sounds like you had a great time! I had no idea the SCA did dance stuff! I thought they just dressed up in armor and whaled on each other with boffer weapons. I would’ve been so in on the dancing. So good on you for making new friends and parallel parking: two things I was never very good at. :o

I need to have some food before class. I’ll be back.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes.

I’m girding myself up for more bad news today. I need to wait until a more decent hour to call MY mother. My father called my husband late last night with some news about my mother. (They’re divorced, long story). At any rate, it appears the cancer somehow got into her BLOOD, but I’m not clear on the details. She will have to undergo radiation every day. I’m going to call her around 9:00 am to try and find out more.

Ugh! I could use some really good news now.

Drae, I’m sorry you didn’t get to go on your camping trip. I truly hope your hiney starts healing and feeling better sooner, rather than later.

Meeks, I’m glad your “something mysterious” turned out to be so much fun.

kai, I hope you start feeling better soon too.

On the whole camping thing…I love camping. I love the smell of the trees in the sun, the smell of the woodsmoke from the fire, the sense of well-being, everything about it. I’ve done backpacking, trailer and camper camping, and tent camping. I love them all. I live in a perfect area for such activities. I grew up camping and my love for it has not diminished in the least.

Well, I should work now. I’m most definitely “not feeling it” today, but it’s what they pay me to do.

Yes, it was dancing and not anything TMI-medical.

You’re welcome to come, any Thursday night you’re free. But I think you’re in NH, right? I can’t keep track of your locations.

As for the paralell parking, I am WAY better at it than the SO and I miss no opportunity to show off. I even paralell-parked in Queens, in the middle of traffic, perfectly and nobody honked their horn, I was so smooooth.

Thanks Taters! And sorry to disappoint, Bobbio.

I’m so sorry to hear about you MIL Taters. You and your family are in my thoughts.

Sounds like fun Mika!

Sorry you’re having a bad day Drae. And I think we’re all sorry we won’t get to hear the saga of the weekend from you. Make sure your friends tell you everything that happens so you can pass it on to us. :stuck_out_tongue:

How do the weekends keep coming up without me having any plans? We really should do something fun this weekend… but I don’t know what. I never have time to think about it until Friday and by then it’s like eh, let’s just hang out and relax. But it’d really be better to get out and do something. Maybe. If I can think of something. ::sigh::

Oh man, mika I wish they were coming around this way on this tour. I think the closest they will be is Raleigh and/or Philadelphia. I missed the show when they were in Virginia Beach a couple of years ago, and I don’t even like the band that much. Their guest vocalist, however, is a different story.
\Obligatory YouTube link: Have you seen this?

Taters, you have all my best wishes for your troubles. I hope things go as well as they can.

I posted without reading everything. **Taters ** I’m so sorry to hear about your mother too. That’s a lot of bad news all at once.

or she could drop you off on LI on her way …
