Angelic Voices - a Sunday Evening MMP

I thoroughly agree with the sentiment that Austen is superior to Brontë, both Charllote and Emily (not familiar with Anne, besides knowing that she was their aunt… I think), but I still enjoy both. I also agree that Heatcliffe is a lousy person and an unlikable fellow, yet a well written character.

Also, everyone make sure to remember that tomorrow, September 19[sup]th[/sup], is Talk Like a Pirate Day. It is a day for us to get together with family and loved ones and to remember our pirate ancestors, who struggled against British tyrrany to… form a new nation free from… tea… or something like that. My history might be a little off, but you get the idea.

Wow, this thing is flying today.

mika, I think I forgot to say, cool pics and I saw that little pirate ship and thought I wanted one. So get two, I’ll drop a check in the mail… :dubious:

doggy, it’s become apparent that swampy has a whole pantry/fridge thing going on. Keep your drawers shut, 'k?
Ok, I came home with full intent of getting a letter or 2 written for work here tonight, but since I made and finished some potato/cheddar soup, I only feel like taking a shower and finishing my book.

I’m a lazy Bus Guy today.

Nope, Anne was their sister. She was the youngest, I think. I know at least one person who’s a fan of hers, but I haven’t asked her impressions of the author yet. I don’t enjoy Jane Eyre as much as I used to; in the past couple of years, it simply strikes me as way too melodramatic. If I try to read it, that’s when I daydream about printing up “The Brontes needed therapy” t-shirts.

doggio, dear, that’s an awful joke. Tell your mom to send more.

Happy Birthday, Herbgirl!!!

I’m laughing with you, Drae, really. Even without having met you, I can picture the accident. Hope you feel better really quickly. (Seems like I bruised my tailbone a long time ago; can’t remember how. Maybe a slip on the sidewalk in the winter or something equally graceful?)

Lovely refrigerator interior you have there dogb.

Hi ems!

I think Meeks is going to that mysterious building to overcome her pathological fear of basements.

Congrats on the new nephew, Shibb! Yay!

Which reminds me: where’s that Rue keeping himself?

I’ve decided that my new cabinet will go without the glass door. It’s awfully heavy and I can’t imagine opening multiple times every day. So the shelves in the top half will stay open. I’m storing stuff that moves around a lot there (glasses and mugs), so it won’t get very dusty.

Oh, and Spats, the puns were rather awful as well. I hear Sean really liked them.

They’re letting Roundboy hand out work? Are they nuts? Even I know it’s not a good idea.

BibKitty, I don’t have cable any more (well, except for my internet connection), so I’ll be watching the new season of MI-5 when it comes out on DVD. ::Le sigh::

I definitely prefer Austen to any of the Brontës. (Also not acquainted with Anne, but I don’t really like Jane Eyre any more, and thought Wuthering Heights was, well, meh.

I’m sure there was more, but I’m getting sleepy… Later.

Poor Drae! I’m still aghast at the loss of shoes. I hope your hiney isn’t broken.

about the Bronte vs. Austen thing. I read one of them in high school, but I forgot which. Which novel had the crazy wife locked in the attic?

gt, I like the fridge too. Maggie growled at the maintenance guy when he was pulling dead leaves off the tree. Apparently stealing appliances and ax murdering the human is OK, but the shrubberry is off limits. :dubious:

That would be Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë.

Oh, and, silly Maggie.

GT

I hate Jane Eyre. Worst book I read in high school. No, I take that back. The worst one was Ethan Frome, officially the Most Depressing Work of Fiction Ever Written. UGH.

Looks like the boards are back up. Today I have more orientation stuffs, and then the official unofficial physics department party tonight. Should be fun.

Classes start tomorrow. UGH.

We apologize for the inconvenience, Ed’s python got loose on the hamster room again.

We were down for a while again right? So that wasn’t me?

Tried to post this three times … here goes.

I am the kind of gambler that could lose my car, my house, whatever I had, if I was determined enough. I lost a hundred dollars on penny slots last year. You have my sympathies.

Well, they were flip flops, so it’s not like I lost a pair of sneakers, but the simple fact that they came off cracked me up no end. I’m doing tons better today, even managed to stay in the car long enough to get to work. I can sit as long as I do it at the proper angle, and if I don’t try to do it too fast, walking is okay. As Roomie says, if it were broken, there would be no sitting or walking, so I’m pretty sure it’s just bruised. It’s feeling better, so I won’t complain.

Although the Humpty thing is pretty damn funny. As were the reactions from my friends when I said I’d hurt myself climbing a fence. Everything from “That’s what you get!” to “What in the name of all that’s holy were you doing climbing a fence??”

Trying to post again…

I’d buy that shirt.

My gripe of the day: I had class last night and needed to buy a specific type of rope. I was stupid and listened to the guy in the sporting goods store who said, “This is pretty much the same.”
No, it was not the same. Now I have to go buy the right rope.
The good news: The other sporting goods store, the one with knowledgeable sales people, is right by a Panera Bread. If I wear a fire department t-shirt, I get my lunch half-off.
: smug smilie :

Three times in two months. Sump’n ain’t right somewhere. :dubious:

canineserf I’m glad to see you’re eatin’ you’re veggies. No ice cream til you finish all your dinner though young man. I’m glad you bought milk. It helps build strong bones and teeth. Oh, and of course Maggie was growlin’ at the appliance guy touching the tree. I assume Maggie uses said tree on occasion as her powder room. I mean would you want somebody messin’ around with your bathroom. Funny joke!

ems howdy! I’m with ya on the sinus thing. Hope you’re all rested up and feeling better.

fcm I sometimes iron a shirt for ACBG. He has to pay a certain price for it though. I wouldn’t charge you like I charge him.

It looks like it might be a rainy, stormy afternoon here. I’m lookin’ forward to it.

Why It Is Important To Stay In School And Pay Attention

Yesterday afternoon about three-thirty I got a call from a delivery guy that had some stuff to deliver (duh!) for the shop. I gave him directions. Three. Different. Times. He kept missing where to turn. Never mind that it is a major intersection and there is just no way to not notice it. He finally gets here and was backing up to the loading dock, suddenly stopped, starts pulling away from the dock, stops, then guns the truck and starts backin’ up to the dock real fast. How he managed to stop in time is a mystery to me. Then, after he unloaded the stuff, he asked me directions to another place he was going. Since I know the place and the person who owns the business well, I can give him very simple directions. Two turns. Easy peasy, right? WRONG! See, last night I went to my church men’s group meeting. Ok, that sounds all righteous and stuff, but really we grill steaks, drink beer and generally hang out, though we sometimes make plans for some type of worthwhile project. Of course, last night was not a worthwhile planning night. Anyways, the guy who owns the bidness truck driver guy was going to was there. He starts telling a story about this dumbass driver who took over an hour to find his place. I said, let me guess, and named the trucking company and described the driver. Then I told him I had given dumbass driver directions from my place that involved exactly two turns. Turns out the fool managed to get on the opposite side of town. This, dear cool kids, is why it is important to stay in school so you can figure out just where the hell you are and how to get there.

Welcome back ems! We missed you!

Well, $150.00 odd dollars later and the good computer is back at home and running properly. Seems we had a power surge of some kind and it fried the CD/DVD drive and one of the power sources. But, it’s back home and the hubby is happy.

I had to go out last night and buy Naked by David Sedaris for my daughter last night. She needs it for her AP English class. Since we were already at the bookstore, I browsed for a book or two for myself. I found a couple of books I liked, but they were still in hardback, not paperback. I may go back this weekend to get at least one of them anyway.

Drae, I lost most of my money on the three cent slots. I played the dime slots a couple of rounds and one of the dollar slots for a few rounds. This is why I don’t gamble.

Nothing else real exciting to report. Just work, work, work.

Drae, one of the board members last night confessed to a tailbone injury as well. She was competing in the Beer Olympics on an ATV.

Very mundane: I stopped for $10 worth of gas this morning. I pulled up to pump #6 and it wouldn’t take my card, just kept telling me to pump the gas already. So I did. Got exactly $10 worth, too. Just as it finished and I was about to go inside to pay (because I don’t believe in the gas fairy), the cashier came running out. Turns out the guy on 7 asked for $10 on 6, so I got his gas. Oops. I just thought it was funny. That kind of thing usually happens to me the other way around.

Gaaaah. The Dope is down, so I have to work.

Gaaaah[sup]2[/sup]. Power blackout, so I can’t even work…

I’m home sick today :frowning:

If I die, I leave all my posessions to the MMP. you can divide it up for yourselves.

Can I have your ruby slippers?

Did you get one of those flying monkeys? Cause I want it if you did.

We’re back? Awesome!
Happy Pirate Day, everybody! Get out there and talk like a pirate!
