Angry Salad

Anybody know the meaning behind the band’s name?

The website only states…

A friend tells me it goes something like:

The band members were dining at a restaurant when one of them spotted Freddie Mercury seated nearby. They approached Freddie and asked his advice for a good band name. The answer…“Angry Salad”. So, they took it…only later to find out that the “Angry Salad” is some “vile homosexual act”.

So, is the story accurate? And, if so, what’s an “angry salad”?

anyone?

No, but I’m sad they moved out west. Used to be from Maine, you know. I’ll probably never get to see them again now <sniff, sniff> You know, I don’t remember them giving an answer at the show, but they were the opening act, so maybe they didn’t get to it… but, hey, the Herald says something about it, maybe it’s true. http://angrysalad.com/portpressherald7499.htm

Oops, The same thing, not something.

Well, there’s the hackish term angry fruit salad. I don’t know the band…does “flashy and attention-getting but uncomfortable for long-term use” seem to fit?

Not that it had anything to do with naming the band, I just found it amusing.

I don’t know what an Angry Salad is, but those guys look familiar. Were they called Controlled Aggression at some point?

Harlan Ellison had a book called Angry Candy.

Hmmm…after some research, they were not Controlled Aggression. But they still look familiar. It’s going to drive me nuts now, until I figure out how I might have seen them. (I’ve seen dozens of Boston area bands, so I might have come across them at one time or another, I just can’t remember.)

Did you go to the Holiday Bizarre in 2000? They played with Guster, Shootz Groove and Jimmie’s Chicken Shack then…

Nope, I figured it out. They used to open for O Positive in the early 90s. I went to a few of those shows around Lowell, Ma.

Though the Holiday Bizarre sounds cool!

And Nora Ephron had a book called Crazy Salad.

Crazy Candy. Band name!
