I like TNT’s series “Animal Kingdom” (although some of the guys look like fugitives from the The Allman Brothers).
What I’ve yet to find out is why Ellen Barkins character Janine Cody is called “smurf”.

According to www.slang-dictionary.org/Australian-Slang/Smurf Smurf is Australian slang for a short person. If this is where it comes from, it fits for Jackie Weaver (1.5m), not so much for Ellen Barkin.
I am sure someone will have a better answer than this, but as I re all from season one, she got the name from a stepfather/mother’s boyfriend who thought she looked blue and cold after a long day of swimming.
That’s all the backstory I remember too, though we can imagine being short played into it.
As Artfrog hints Animal Kingdom was an Australian movie staring Jackie Weaver as Smurf, I’ve been watching the series which I really like and just noticed the original movie in the Google Play store.
