Animatrix

I noticed Comcast has the Animatrix on PPV starting Monday. Is it worth it? Spoilers won’t bother me but just in case please use spoiler boxes if you deem it neccesary.

Yes. I don’t know how much you’d have to pay for it, but I’d say it was worth it. You’re going to tape it, right? Because you’ll probably want to watch some of the nine stories more than once.

You can watch four of the hmm nine? shorts for free on the animatrix website, and i think a few of the rest have been shown during the trailers during other movies. I wouldn’t pay to see it. The last flight of the osiris is beautifully done though, its what that final fantasy movie should’ve been like.

Well it only cost about $3.95, not much of a budget buster. What I’m wondering is if this would improve or add to my understanding of the Matrix. The whole Stuffy household is wild about the series.

I would say yes. Even assuming you’ve watched the Second Renaissance parts 1 and 2 (my favorites by far) on the Animatrix web site, Final Flight of the Osiris and Kid’s Story both offer some additional background to the second film.

Some of the shorts are weaker than the others (I personally didn’t care for Beyond or Matriculated at all), but on the whole it’s worth your $4.

Actually, I heard somewhere that the people who did the final fantasy movie were also the ones who did Final Flight of the Osiris.

And for that manner, Detective Story was apparently done by some of the people from Cowboy Bebop.

Well apparently they learned something because final flight is damn good.

I liked it and am no big fan of anime. Question about the last story:

Why did the woman wear a green mask when luring the machine ant thingy into the lab? Also, what purpose did the little lab monkey thing in the jar serve?

Except for the voice acting, which is mediocre at best.

“Go. Go.”

Final Flight of the Osiris is indeed by Square, the people responsible for Final Fantasy (movie and games).

OK, now I am an anime fan, and the Wachowsky brothers aare as well; nice to see them crediting Ghost in the Shell for the Matrix idea. As anime goes, much of the Animatrix is fairly good, and fits well within the Matrix universe. Other than Final Flight, if you are only paying $3.95, you will find the two Second Renaissance animes well worth your money.

We are buying the DVD, interesting considering we have no plans to actually buy any of the Matrix movies
