Ann Arbor Dopefest in June! Who's in?

Arboretum sounds good. I have only been there once and I saw some really interesting butterflies.

So, it’s probably good Persephone isn’t coming.

Still looking good for me. If no one minds, I might bring the kids and make a day of it. We’ll probably check out the Art Museum and Natural History Museum (dinosaurs!).

Of course, if it’s a miserable rainy day, that might change things, but what are the odds of that in Michigan!

Ah, this must be the fest Kyla was telling me about.

Looks like I’m in.

What is the parking situation like at the deli? Do they have an actual parking lot, or do I need to find a nearby parking structure again?

The parking is… wierd. There is some street parking nearby and 2 small lots within walking distance. There are a great many one-way streets which can be confusing. There is no nearby (within 4-5 blocks) parking structure. The nearest one is west of Main st. on… shoot, I don’t know the name of the street but the Main Street party Store is on the corner.

Incidentally, I’m out, as it turns out. My dad is coming to visit. Oh, well.

Zingerman’s is a GD PITA to get to and park at. Yeah, I know I just ended that sentence with a preposition.

My worst day is when someone stops me on the street and asks me how to get to Zingerman’s. I usually flap my arms, run in a circle, and bark at the sky. It’s like, it’s on Detroit, only Detroit is one-way, and it’s diagonal, and it only last like three blocks, and I can’t remember the name of the street where it connects to, and lord god have mercy ask someone else, I beg of you.

I always wind up on the street that intersects Detroit by commie high, then making an illegal left onto Detroit if I see an open parking spot.

I’ve often done the “over that way” when giving directions to the place, or I’ll just do a “Zinger-what?” and keep walking…

So I guess that means we can’t ask for directions, right? Damn. Oh, well, between the two of us, we can find it. I will drive and Brynda can lean out the window trying to find the scent of corned beef.

AAAAAAAAGH! I’d forgotten all about this! I wanna goooooooo!

But I don’t have a ride.

If someone can get me there, I’ll kick in for gas. And I’ll even let you take pictures as I shriek in horror at butterflies.

Jesus, Rick, YOU’RE the Brit. Have her drive because I’ll bet you’ve got the better nose for it.

It ain’t that hard as long as you’re not asking me for reliable directions. Try mapquest?

Also, there is a small chance I won’t make it. I am switching to a different medication and my doctor specifically told me to start taking it this weekend. That’s because apparently many people just want to lie around for the first few days, semi-comatose, while they get used to its sedating side-effects. Hopefully I’ll be able to consume enough caffeine to make it. And then I’ll have an excuse for any less-than-scintillating conversation out of me, won’t I?

It’s really not that hard to find, it’s just that you’ll probably have to circle the block to find parking, and that usually puts you in a different hemisphere.

Just take Main Street to Kingsley (one block from Felch St, so be careful). Kingsley is north of downtown. Turn east on Kingsley and go to Detroit Street (about 3 blocks). Zingerman’s is on the corner of Kingsley and Detroit.

See how easy! Of course, Detroit St. is a one way diagonal street, so that’s where the fun begins!

FYI, the average price for a sandwich is about $10.00, but they are good. Check out Zingerman’s for more info.

I probably won’t make it, my agoraphobia is flaring up.

Drat. I can’t make it either. I completely forgot that I’m working tomorrow. And I kinda have to, because I took a day off work earlier this week that I won’t get paid for. Working tomorrow will cover that, so’s I’ll get a not-short paycheck the day that I leave for Dave’s RibFest.
Y’all eat some corned beef for me, okay?

sob I LOVE Zingerman’s…

Sock Munkey, if you feel more like it tomorrow, we will be happy to see you. If not, maybe the next one.

Thanks for the link, lost4life. Those sammiches sound great.

We will see everyone tomorrow!

I’ll be wearing bluejeans and a black t-shirt with a swirly pattern on it. See you there!

I got to drive Wonko all over Ann Arbor in my car, and he didn’t puke even once. Brave man, I’m telling you.

Glad to meet you folks. Sorry I couldn’t make Leopold Brothers. I went comatose when I got home.

We had a great time. It was nice meeting some of the locals. We also got a visit from TomnDebb. Hopefully our kids didn’t destroy the pool table at Leopold Bros.

There was some talk about hooking up at the art fair…let us know!

Me: This is my wife, she doesn’t post on Straight Dope.
Wonko: Then how do I know she exists?

Yeah, tomndebb’s appearance was a special treat.

Me: Oh my GOD. You mean, this is THE Tom? I’m so HONORED! You’re so SMART!

Tom’s Kids: (to themselves) Is this lady on drugs? Why is she the eighth person to react like that?
