To a certain extent you’re probably right, but there’s no reason to bring ourselves down to that level.
Kiros, no i didn’t go and see Patch Adams; i had to get some work done this evening (no rest for us grad students!).
I honestly don’t know if there are any other Hopkins students on the Boards, although i do know that one of the Straight Dope’s medical types got his MD from here many moons ago.
It’s always hard to tell anyway, as plenty of members like to keep their locations and work or college affiliations secret.
Holy cow! There are more Hopkins ppl on the boards! (freshman here, having a great time) I went to see Patch Adams today. Very interesting talk he gave if a bit too liberal even for me. He brought up some good points about how horribly stupid our health care system is (at least the parts I caught when I was awake…college is tiring). All the rest about non-violence wooshed me though. Non violence may be a good way to protest by creating sympathy, but to expect the world to slowly reform itself to not hurting anyone through the power of love?
I’m looking foward to the two previously mentioned speakers. I only wish they were booked on the same night so they had to share the stage. But this is sweetness beyond belief. College has been so much fun so far, and being given the chance to listen to talks from these famous people just adds icing to the cake.
I think these two are made for each other. I’m mentally picturing them on "Blind Date right now.
What? Come on, look at Matlin and Carvel. Carver. Whatever his name is. Just picture Moore and Coulter together. On the plus side, they wouldn’t ruin two other people. Unfortunately, they’d sort of look like the reverse of Jack Sprat and his wife…
OK, here is the thread announcing a coupe of mini-Dopefests.
If you’re interested in meeting up for some drinks at either or both of these talks, please respond in that thread so i can get an idea of how many people might come.
