For the record, one article about her passing mentioned that esophageal cancer has a 14% survival rate over 5 years. And it’s also not a pretty way to go.
Was she a smoker? Did that contribute to the cancer?
Admitted heavy smoker with a booze problem. She kicked them both, but the damage was apparently already done.

I remember meeting Gov. Richards on vacation in South Padre. She was in old lady shorts, with a couple of security guys with her.
She was charming. She was the kind of “good ol’ girl” you’d want to hang out with just to listen to.

I could have sworn that line was about George Bush the Elder, though I don’t recall exactly who said it…it might have still been her.
Seems it was Jim Hightower who said the “third base” line. And Ann Richards was responsible for the “silver spoon” line, but that too was directed at the father rather than at the son.
