The lawyers.
Or who will continue to pursue the case? Presumably on behalf of her daughter?? Poor baby. Maybe her lawyer really did care about her and will be there for the baby, who hopefully really is his.
It’s sad that the “Remembering Anna” headline on those videos has a solemnity that is ironic.
I’m sorry this happened. In some sense, she had the same sort of wild ride in life as Monroe. The same sort of misery in the midst of luxury. May her family be comforted.
I just don’t believe this. Between Ryan O’Neil, the astronaut and now this. Somone in my office just remarked “It’s the year of the crazies.”
That’s exactly how I felt. In all the interviews since her son’s death, she seemed heavily medicated (not drunk or high). Hopefully, the paternity thing will get straightened out. I’d hate to think that her family would get custody. IIRC, from her reality show, they’re a pretty nasty bunch.
The saddest thing is, around 1993 she was the hottest thing on two legs. When she originally appeared in Playboy and subsequently won Playmate of the Year in the early '90s, Anna Nicole was truly a knockout, a real sexpot that harkened back to the curvy glamour girls of times past: Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, Mamie Van Doren. As a sex symbol, pin-up girl, and even mainstream fashion model (which she was, for a short time with Guess Jeans), her voluptuous, busty figure was a stark contrast to the “heroin chic” supermodels who also rose to prominence around that time. I thought she was a perfect ten back then (long before I ever heard her speak, granted), and it was sad to see her abuse her body and sabotage her life so much over the last 15 years.
Poor thing.
This past year can’t have been anything but hell for her.
Yeah, it’s sad, and she was hot – but that “hadn’t heard her speak” part is crucial. I remember watching her Playmate video and counting backwards from 10 every time she did anything but pose.
I can understand the comparisons to Elvis and Marilyn. But ANS had about a billionth of the talent of either one of them. Hell, she had about a billionth of the talent of Jenny frickin’ McCarthy. Unfortunately for her, there are just enough opportunities for fame these days that she couldn’t kick the spotlight-seeking habit and pull a Cynthia Myers (who was also probably more talented than ANS).
Not sure why, but my mind struggled to make sense of this statement first as a reference to the U.S. President, then to the JM J. Bullock character on “Too Close for Comfort,” before I finally alighted on whom you meant.
Anna Nicole, I dedicate this moment of mental confusion to you.
They just had her mother on CNN. I missed what she said, but I’m sure they’ll rerun it.
You could just see that the life had gone out of her eyes when she lost her son. I don’t recall ever seeing anyone look so devastated. I wouldn’t trade places with her for 10 times the billionaire’s wealth.
OK, I don’t know if this post goes against SDMB rules but I had to put it out there.
Conspiracy theory!!! Larry Birkhead is the father of the baby but Howard K. Stern is listed as the father on the birth certificate. If the paternity tests show Birkhead is the father then Birkhead would be entitled to a chunk of Anna’s money if anything happened to her and her son, Daniel. Stern killed Anna’s son Daniel and now has killed Anna and thus would have to be the guardian of the child. This would make him the heir to Anna’s money!
Damn, maybe I should write for Boston Legal.
A sweet and lovely tribute, to be sure.
Any idea as to cause of death yet? I’m wondering if it’s related (or relatable) to that weight-loss product she was hawking.
CNN says they’ll do the autopsy as early as tomorrow. Dr. Gupta is saying that weight loss drugs may have played a part, but they won’t know until the autopsy is done. As far as I know, we don’t know where the baby is.
So sad. That poor baby. Say what you will about Smith, but from everything I’ve seen, she was at least a good mother. Now her daughter will have to grow up without her.
I too wonder if there could be a connection with the weight loss drugs. Isn’t there a history of weight loss drugs having a negative effect on the heart? It would be kind of bizarre if that’s the case, considering that Trimspa and Smith were recently named subjects of a lawsuit surrounding false advertising.
Apparently the baby is in the Bahamas with friends of ANS’s, and a hospital source is saying heart failure could be a potential cause.
I say nothing about the voracity of either of these statements, however, I do wonder what could cause a 39 year old woman to have heart failure. I don’t imagine it would be very good for TrimSpa’s image if their product had caused it.
Such a sad irony she died young when she gave so much of her life to helping the elderly. With her second marriage she helped an 89 year old man get off and for the whole last year she’s been helping Larry King do the same thing.
This just in: Larry King hospitalized in ICU for inability to stop ejaculating. “THIS IS GONNA KEEP ME IN INTERVIEWS AND STORIES TIL MY KIDS AND MY NEXT WIFE ARE ALL GROWN!” says talk show icon to no one in particular.
RIP “Glamorous Anna”. You might as well.
And to think that the old billionaire’s millions could well end up going to a lawyer so sleazy that other lawyers tell sleazy lawyer jokes about him and a baby who was conceived (who by nobody’s positive) a decade after his death.
Speaking as one who’s seen many of her movies, what talent did Marilyn Monroe have, other than being beautiful? I mean, she was perfectly adequate as an actress - did she have some other talents that have escaped me? Not being snarky - curious as to why Anna Nicole would be unfavorably compared to Marilyn is all. They both seem to be very attractive women - Marilyn just had better boyfriends.
IIRC, Marilyn was the covergirl on the very first issue of Playboy. I’m not saying that’s talent, but it’s history, and that counts for something.
(An aside: I’m fairly certain those photos were taken for a calendar and Marilyn received $50 for them. That guy sold them to Hefner for $500. In retrospect, they both got royally screwed.)
Thank you. I was beginning to wonder if I was only one cynical enough to notice that the people standing between Howard K. Stern and the money keep dying in his presence under mysterious circumstances.
