For the 38th year, the students of South Glens Falls, NY (my old high school), worked their butts off for months, and danced through exhaustion for 28 hours, to raise money for charity. The whole town supports the effort with everything they have. Bottles are collected, bakes sales are held, restaurant owners donate dinners for raffles, businesses donate goods for auctions, and on and on. It’s incredible, really.
In 2013 they raised $489,716, and in 2014 they raised $583,015. This year they raised an incredible $621,680! The total raised over the past 38 years-----$4.82 million dollars!
The students themselves always choose the causes, and this year they have chosen 45 needy recipients. Over the past 38 years, 366 causes have benefitted from the marathon dance.
I’m so incredibly proud of my hometown. By the way, the population of this town? Under 4,000 people.
