Another "Help Me Identify This Song" thread

You guys are so good at it, so I turn to you. A bit of background:

Ivylad has discovered Real Rhapsody, and has been having a ball playing old songs we haven’t heard since our childhood. He’s been burning some of the songs (paid for, of course) onto CD’s, and I’ve been flipping through the filing cabinet of my memories to play stuff my parents liked.

I was born in 1967, so my folks listened to music from the 50s and 60s. There was this one song, and I can only remember the final line of it.

Basically, this guy has a souped-up car, and he’s driving along the road, when this POS car comes up beside him. Thinking POS driver wants to race, Souped Up Driver puts the pedal to the metal, but to his dismay, POS keeps up with him no problem.

Faster and faster they go, and POS is keeping pace. SU Driver is getting more and more upset, until POS driver calls out to him at the end of the song, “Hey, buddy, how do you get this car…Out Of Second Gear?”

What is the name of that song?? My dad knows which one I’m talking about, but he can’t remember the name of it either.

“Beep Beep” by the Playmates (1958)

Lyrics

Note: I don’t know if this site has pop-ups. Most do. I have my browser and firewall cranked to the max, but it didn’t indicate that pop-ups were present. YMMV.

A record four minutes! You guys are fantastic!

Honestly-how many people posting here actually remember Nash Ramblers? :stuck_out_tongue:

Late seventies high scholl, a friend of mine drove one. It had been in his family for years, and kept getting passed down the line.
Although it could always get out of second gear.

Unfortunately, Beep Beep doesn’t exist on Real Rhapsody. It’s not even listed as “Not Available.” Ditto for The Playmates.

The search goes on… :frowning:

When my dad was in college in the early 60s, one of his buddies had a Nash – which somehow kept disappearing from the parking lot and reappearing on the roof of the Agricultural Building.

The actual name of the song is Little Nash Rambler. I can’t remember the name of the artist but with the song title it shouldn’t be to hard to find.

I learned to drive on a Nash Rambler…

[Moderator hat on] I have temporarily disabled the link to the song in Jack Sayid’s post, pending investigation to find out whether that’s a legit source. Jack, be advised that we’re extremely rigid and inflexible when it comes to providing song downloads that evade copyrights. [/Moderator hat off]

Oh my God.

I’ve been looking for this song for seven years or so now.

I’m so glad I opened this thread accidentally.

AAACCKKKK!

It doesn’t play the whole song! It gets up to the “120 miles as fast as I can go” part!
AAAAACCCCKKKK!

I see it on Real Rhapsody (although, under ‘not available’). Make sure that when you type in ‘beep beep’ (or just ‘beep’) in the search field, you’ve selected ‘track’ in the pulldown menu. Then select to view all.

Same with ‘The Playmates.’ (I searched just ‘playmates’.) Make sure the pull down menu is on ‘artist.’

Unfortunately, there’s no sign that anyone covered the song (personally, I can understand why, since it’s a novelty song with no redeeming value once you hear the punchline of the song).

Peace.

It played the whole song for me.

I’m allowing the link to the lyrics to stand, but if you want a copy of the song, buy it or take it out from the library or get it from a legitimate source. I’ve deleted the link to the MP3.

I’m not making any judgement on the legality, I’m just enforcing the READER’s rules and preferences for this website.
