How the Fresh Hell did this pop up?
I just searched for “Today’s Threads”!
MODS–do we have a Search Engine issue?

Zeldar:
Due to the file size limitations in my version of Excel, I asked ntucker to trim off from the file he uploaded (see here) all users who had zero posts.
From that file I gathered these gee-whiz numbers which may help in determining what constitutes an “Active User”:

It appears that the high count belongs to
21437 “Marley23” 54218 78,234 10-20-2014, 12:21 PM
so if you encounter somebody with a higher post count please let us know.
Until somebody can write the code to build a brand new set of numbers this is the best I can do at this point.

Hmm. I’m ahead of three people on this list and will beat Lib soon, and suspect others are ahead of me.
Doing analyses like this is what I get paid for. When I retire in a few weeks I can do it in Perl so there are no file size limitations if I can get the latest data.
Besides the top 20 list, I can redo the pareto, do a calculation of the percentage of users with 0, under 10 and under 50 posts, and maybe look at a distribution of posts by banned users. Depending on what the input data looks like, a pareto of posts of posts per week might be fun.
Anything else people would like to see?

Beautiful!! Good luck on the project. I assume you looked at the previous monster’s (spreadsheet, not the statistician!) columns. What was there was great for all sorts of analysis.
Dammit! I actually went through and found everybody with my join date (March 4, 2005) without realizing this was a zombie thread. Anyway, FTR, 33 others joined the same day I did. Three were banned and one was wished to the cornfield, I guess. Most of the rest didn’t stick around at all, although four posted until 2014 or 2015 (which would have made them active posters at the time this thread was created).
Here’s everybody with their last activity date:

Only one of the 33, Kaiwik, is what I would consider to be still active. I don’t recognize the user name though - we must frequent different parts of the board or else s/he is just a lurker who stays signed in.

Wow, I had no idea I was so high on the list. The last time I saw a post-rate analysis, linear extrapolation had me maxing out as the 14th-most-prolific poster. Now, it looks like I’m somewhere around the 6th? I guess that the other folks who were ahead of me stopped posting for some reason or another. It would be interesting to know what those reasons were: One would think that once someone was here for enough years and enough thousands of posts, it would be an indication that they were here for life.
I know it’s old, but I was curious. 24 of us joined on that fateful day, and only a couple of others besides me stuck around beyond the first month or so. None of the others are currently active.

Of the people in the top 20 in 2011, one was banned and at least two decided to stop or cut back on posting because they needed to get a life.

Ahh, but how many are still around from that fateful March, 1999 when Tuba transitioned people from the AOL board?
I think the smallest number (not a member of Chicago Reader) went to the Harley loving Gus, but he hasn’t been here in ages.
Tomndeb posted yesterday? Okay, he’s one.

If “Harley Loving Gus” is really GusNSpot he’s still around most days. User number 33.
Hey, thanks. I guess we just don’t visit the same subjects.
He has the lowest user number for a regular member (non-staff).

An original in more ways than one.
I’m too lazy to put the list together right now, but at a rough count, 34 people joined on 10-17-2010. Of those, I think I saw one other poster with at least triple digits in post counts.
