Another question about sorting in Itunes

I’ve posted before that I’m very picky about how my Itunes libraries are sorted and I fill in all the “sort” fields available in the “get info” dialogue box.

Very often, I would have to make a change in the same box of several adjacent tracks. For example, I might go through the “sort name” field in an album to remove all the punctuation marks.

So what I would do is select a track, choose get info, move my cursor to the “sort name” field, make my changes, and then hit the “next” button at the bottom of the dialogue box. The box would then sift to the information for the next track in the database, and the cursor would remain in the “sort name” field, so then I could make changes without having to select a field again.

In one of the recent updates to Itunes, for some reason this seems to have changed, when I finish editing the “sort name” entry in the get info dialogue box and then hit “next,” instead of moving to the next track’s information with the same data point selected, it reverts to a “no select” position, so that I have to then use my mouse to again select “sort name” before I can make changes.

This is extremely annoying as it considerably slows down the process. Does anyone know of any way to change it back to the way it used to work?

I don’t know the answer to your question specifically, but if you’re anal about this stuff and have a Mac there are scripts that can automate the process of making all sorts of Track Info changes.

The latest version of iTunes (10.6 (40)) behaves exactly the way you want it to.
At least, it does on my Snow Leopard machine.

I’m anal enough about it that I want to do it manually, not automatically.

That’s the version I have.

I wonder whether I’ve inadvertently changed a setting somewhere.
