This ones been bugging me for a long time now.
The few details I remember:
-Plot: A comedy where two brothers happen upon a small New England town and try to solve a murder mystery.
-Title: I thought it was something like “The ______ Brothers”
-A few key scenes: One of the running gags was to have an old man from the town ride his bike past the brothers saying “You’re doomed” and the crashing on his bike.
Another scene involved a character with a lisp. They were hot on the trail of some clue that sent them to the town library. Next scene they are at the front door of the library and the guy says “Oh thit, the libraryth clothed on thundayth.”
Not New England, but Oregon
Not a murder mystery, but a ghost story.
The movie is Hysterical starring the Hudson Brothers.
Yup, Hysterical. I must have watched that movie a hundred times on HBO when I was a kid.
Yeah, that was the one I was thinking.
Seems as kids we were always forgetting the library was closed on Sundays as we never turned down an opportunity to use that line.
You and me both. I didn’t actually like it that much. It was like islands of funny in an ocean of suck. Bud Cort was OK, and the Exorcist scene cracked me up, but the rest of it was just stupid. As comedians, the Hudson Brothers are good musicians.
Since that’s been answered, can I ask for another one.
Old black and white
In Boston (they showed a lot of landmarks)
Story about a cop who is introduced as a rookie and works his way up
Has a stool pigeon whom he befriends. Stoolie gives info about other heists, but does not do heists in the cops neighborhood.
Stoolie has huge bank robbery, they close the bridges in Boston.
Cop finds his friend, gives him what-for about stealing, stoolie wants to mend his ways.
Gets shot by rival gang, dies in cops arms.
It was on one of those TCM channels years ago, but I cannot for the life of me think of the title. And I want it.
My guess for HubZilla’s movie: Six Bridges to Cross.
Thank you pinkfreud!!!
I certainly am impressed. Is this the best message board or what?
