Anthony Weiner: douchebag extrordinaire

A man who shows such an inability to resist compulsion, is NOT someone you want in a position of power.

Chris Mathews said the same thing on his show today.

Takes one to know one I guess. I didn’t notice him reveling in any particular way, but it does take narcissism or something like that to go through this kind of scandal and then decide you want to put your family right back in the public eye almost as soon as the craziness has died down.

I’ve always thought this guy is such a, oh, I dunno, a…

Damn! Loss for words… an Asshole?

Hey, wait-a-minute…

There are likely many voters who share this opinion. If this were an election in my area, I would share this opinion and look for other candidates for that office.

It’s too bad he never appeared in an SNL Digital Short. “Dick in A Pix” would be kinda catchy.

How could he be so stupid to get caught again? He disqualifies himself.

I think that would be better phrased as “How could he be so stupid as to do it again?” Getting caught is just the by-product; I don’t think the behavior would be made more acceptable by it not being revealed.

It’s a pity he’s such an idiot about this sort of thing; he was a reasonably shrewd member (heh) of Congress compared to many of his colleagues. Some people just can’t shut down the dick-brain override function.

I gotta say, this is one of the the biggest bullshit memes on this board. It’s right up there with tipping, SUVs, and telemarketers

NYC suffered from negative image problems for years, high crime, failing infrastructure and a rude citizenry. Thanks to the efforts of some forward thinking politicians and others all that seems to by and large be gone now. In fact my impression is that it’s a safe, fun place to visit and I was amazed by the helpful attitude of everyone I met there. Does a city of 8 million plus really want to return to the days where they’re the butt of national jokes again? Elect an unrepentant, narcissistic, dishonest, shallow-thinking exhibitionist and you’ll be right back in the thick of it.

Poor judgement, dishonesty, recklessly compulsive… those are the qualities you’d admire in the mayor of the largest city in the land? Bummer.

Which party fought to enact the anti-slavery Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution? Which party fought against it?

While I agree with your conclusion, that’s kind of a dumb reason to pick a mayor. And anyway I don’t think New Yorkers care very much what other people say about them. People made jokes about Rudy Giuliani (and he deserved them) and they make jokes about Mike Bloomberg, too. Perhaps you noticed that question about soda?

And I can’t understand why our more conservative voters can’t understand the problem:

Candidate/Politician A: We must pass laws to protect the family! Yes, these laws may have the effect of limiting some people’s behavior (never call them freedoms), but it is necessary as the (traditional man/woman) family is the most important thing!!!
Candidate/Politician B: We should certainly encourage and support stable loving family formation, but not at the expense of other people’s freedom to do what they want as long as all involved are consenting adults.

Both are caught cheating on their wives/husbands. Why does it seem worse for A?It’d be like having the coaches on The Biggest Loser be morbidly obese themselves.

Now, I agree that any Candidate A should be held to this standard regardless of party (note that John Edwards who had used his family to political advantage got spanked for it). It just seems that, especially lately, A seems to be a more likely GOP-held opinion while B is more likely to be a Democrat-held position.

Why would you ignore the actual reasons I listed not to pick a mayor?

I was going to say I can’t understand it either, but I guess it’s more accurate to say I understand it’s a lame excuse for Republican-bashing. Almost nobody took Position B until the last couple of years.

Those are good reasons. ‘People will laugh at you if you elect him’ isn’t.

I think dems feel it’s counter-bashing. They’ve been getting accused of morals violations forever.
So the opportunity to crow over some self-hoisting prig is irresistible. That’s my guess, anyway.

Yesterday, when this story broke, was National Hot Dog Day.

That’s got to be worth a couple of minutes of a comic’s routine.

“Bodily integrity”? It is to laugh. The ranks of history’s great leaders is full of alcoholics, drug addicts, philanderers, and such. Great people have great appetites. So long as they’re not breaking the law or corrupt in their execution of their actual public duties, we should expect extraordinary people to have extraordinarily screwed up personal lives.

I’d much prefer a sexually uncontrolled Anthony Weiner in office than a control freak like Bloomberg.

If you don’t think in addition to everything else I and others have listed that national likeability and respect for a candidate are important decisions in choosing an elected official then you go ahead and embrace Mr. Weiner. When your choice is the butt of jokes you can swell with pride Marley and claim to have help put him there. Your choice, a frikkin’ bizarre one but your choice. Wouldn’t be the first time, nor the last that your judgement has been questioned.

Huh. You might be on to something here. I remember when the Stone Temple Pilots put out No. 4 and everybody begged them to start shooting up Scott Weiland before they made any more music.

ETA: Having said that, most of history’s great leaders had the good sense not to get caught drinking and philandering and so on.
