Mr. Burnham is, according to Wikipedia, the antithesis of the barely animated hairpiece that is tasked with running the USA. He’s practically a goddamn communist!
While I do not put too much faith in UK politicians in general, this “radical leftist” will be more than a match for Trump and will run rings around him… to the great satisfaction of all tiers of society from the readers of the Sun to readers of the Telegraph.
And Trump’s extraordinarily stunted sense of humour will cause him to miss all the barbs and he’ll smile inanely as ever.
Then someone will explain the insults to him later and Trump will post something like 'BOMB THE VERY LOW RATINGS UK" at 3am.

The more real national leaders who refuse to meet with him, the less damage he will be able to do to both their country and the United States. It will also send a message that they are not going to assist him in normalizing his behavior and rhetoric.

I recall Trump the first term meeting up with then Prince Charles and they were discussing climate change. Trump the Fool contended that regarding climate, the U.S. had sunny skies and nice air.

People pretending they can make a difference are deluded. He’ll just forget after a while even if you do placate him, and will rage and tear apart his allies like he always does.
Agreed. And I think the best outcome is that the UK basically becomes invisible. It’s bad to be either a perceived ally, or foe, of this moron.
Also, I used to think it was a big problem that figures from the UK right often go on American TV or podcasts and lie about the country – how we ruled by sharia law and asylum seekers get given cars etc. But in the context of our relationship with the US, I don’t see that it affects much. So if something like that comes up, of course you should say it’s false, but there’s no need (or possibility) to change his mind.

Well, it’s always predictable that Trump will object to any handover of territory from “us” (very-broadly speaking) to “those shithole people” (in this case, the multi-ethnic people of Mauritius).
The UK likely concluded that giving Donald this issue to fuss and fret over would distract him from doing even more harmful things to the UK (raising tariffs to 90%, anyone?)
After all, the agreement provided for the joint US-UK military base to remain under the 99-year lease agreement. And pleasing Donald at least lets the UK collect interest on the held-up payments they had been going to give to Mauritius.

On the OP: my advice would have been that Burnham ask MI6 for some of those odor-blocking nostril inserts. But maybe he’d already acquired some, knowing he’d have to be in the vicinity of His Stinkiness for a while.
