Well, it’s kinda late to pick a completely different location for this one, given the people going who aren’t familiar with SF. But we should keep it in mind for the next time.
That said, i’d really prefer Uno’s, or one of the other restaurants at the EC (offhand i know of an Italian place, a Chinese place, and a Japanese place) over Chevy’s.
Er, how about a picnic? Doesn’t have to be in S.F., although Golden Gate Park is nice. I have no objection to movie watching, either. (I don’t have a car, so I’d prefer someplace accessable by public transportation. That’s not a demand, just a preference.)
A picnic? PU! I don’t go out to eat so I can cook my own food!
Zyzzyva, can’t you eat beans and rice at Chevy’s? (They have vegetarian black beans.) They also have veggie fajitas (which is what I get) and you could tell them to leave off the cheese.
I think Embarcadero Center is just easiest to get to, transportation-wise. Plus it’s near dead on weekends. (I did suggest other places, sorry. I’ll bring you some soap not made from dead animals to make it up to you. ;))
I don’t think it’s necessary to make a reservation since we’ll be a smallish crowd. What usually works best is we ask for one of their balloons and write “SDMB” on it and tie it to a chair where we’re sitting. If we can agree to sit in the bar it’ll narrow the area down for the new folk. Does that sound ok to everyone?
Dumb me, ignoring the slam-dunk option. Actually, I’m not the biggest drinker in the world … if you’ll recall, that night at SLO was the first time I had ever really been smashed.
Thanks for the map link voguevixen, I should be able to find that without too much trouble. I’m looking forward to meeting you all tomorrow! This will make it 5 dopefests in 3 different countries for me.
My husband just informed me we have reservations in Lake Tahoe for tomorrow. We’ll be miles north by lunchtime, I fear. Drat and blast! (I tried to convince him to come along and leave after lunch, but he wants to get up there and start losing money right away. )
Well yes. Normally, Chevy’s wouldn’t be a problem (other than the taste, but i can live with that). The problem is that for some reason they can’t handle the immensely complicated prospect of offering their full menu to groups of more than 5 people, so we get stuck with their “party menu,” which consists of like 5 choices and doesn’t allow any substitutions or modifications. So i’d be stuck eating chips and salsa like last time.
Well, zyzz, I don’t know if there’s going to be more than five people, so you should be safe. In any case, I don’t think it’d be a problem to have the group walk over to Uno’s once everyone has arrived tomorrow.
Ahhh, that stinks. I’ve never noticed that with large groups. Is it new? (I think that’s why eating in the bar is a good suggestion, you can sit at two tables and then push them together after ordering, lol.)
Have fun you guys. I’ll try and catch the next one. (For the next one…does anyone have any interest in going to Dave & Buster’s in Milpitas? It’s a bit of a drive to get to but they certainly cater to large groups. I haven’t been there since I quit eating meat, but I remember their menu being huge and varied, so I’m pretty sure there’s stuff everyone can eat.) I was also thinking there are a few restaraunts in Oakland’s Jack London Square (TGI Fridays/Old Spaghetti Factory, etc) we might look into. Is there a shuttle from BART or something?
I’ll certainly do Milpitas stuff, since it’s more toward my neck of the woods than Oakland or San Francisco … assuming that it fits into my weirdo schedule.
