I’ve lived most of my life in L.A. It seems to be the case here that any fully-licensed bar I’ve been in, there are either no windows or else the windows are obscured by curtains or some other object so you can’t look in. Also, the doors into the place are either separated from the main drinking premises by a corridor of some length, or there is a short L-shaped jog so that passersby on the street can’t see the bar or its patrons. It should be understood that this doesn’t seem to apply to bars that belong to restaurants, or are situated in hotels, airport terminals, or other places of public accommodation whose primary purpose isn’t selling alcohol. Nightclubs that offer live entertainment also seem to be mostly exempt from this.
The problem is, I’m trying to find the law or regulation that says this. I have student access to Lexis-Nexis, but I can’t seem to find the actual laws that dictate this. I’m not a law student as I think everyone knows, so this isn’t homework.
