Any celebrities on the SDMB?

I saw someone has a username RIngo and while I don’t believe that it is a former Beatle as his sig proclaims, it got me wondering:
Are there now, or have there ever been any clebrities (musicians, tv/movie actors, etc.) posting messages here?

What, you don’t consider Cecil Adams or The Bad Astronomer to be a celebrity?

Seriously, though, if there were celebrities on the board, I doubt they would be inclined to reveal who they were. I know that if I was a celebrity and saw too much of my life being spent in a media fishbowl, I would certainly appreciate being able to interact with other people without them freaking out about who I was.

Not to mention the strange mail that celebrities sometimes get. They would want to cut down on that.

Personally I doubt that there are any famous people on the board, except for the ones I already mentioned, and if there are, they are likely to keep quiet about who they are.

Well, among urban planners I’m something of a celebrity – a lot of people recognize me from my name tag at planning conferences, and my work been mentioned in several planning publications. Outside of the profession, though, I’m rather anonymous.

Depends on what you mean by “celebrity”. Harrison Ford? I somehow doubt it. But we clearly have a few published authors, people that are well known within their fields, and a few people whose names have graced movie credits.

Given the number of people, I imagine there are one or two who are being very carefully mum about their real-life identity for one reason or another. How actually “famous” those people might be, we have no way of telling.

And I believe Ringo is the former “beatle” in the sense of that having been his old username.

Eve

A published writer.

BTW - something interesting - I just did a search on messages by “beatle” and came up with all the “Ringo” messages. Apparently, when you change your name, they keep the old one in the database as an alias, rather than simply changing a single name field. I wonder if they ever prune former names?

I’ve had artwork published in several books and magazines; not especially great as far as illustrators in general, but moderately well-known among my niche market. If there’s an A-list of artists in my niche, I’m probably on the B-list…

Well, there is some history to my user name, but message boards being the medium they are, alternate perceptions of what we post abound.

I may have to revert. Sheesh.

To answer the question, Eve and Reality Chuck are authors, and there are a couple of others as well, and aha had some hit records in the '60s and is a bona fide rock star.

yabob, I just tried a couple of searches and found that if I search for “beatle” I get messages where my name shows as “Ringo” now, but they’re only the messages that I originally posted as “beatle” and if I search on “Ringo” I get only the messages originally posted under that name.

And WTH…

I work for celebrities, but that really doesn’t count, does it?

<tangent reference=“former tangent”>
odd. I didn’t look that close at the dates. It implies they are storing a lookup key used by the search, and the displayed username as distinct entities, and there’s two “users” whose displayed names coincide, or some kind of date ranges associated with the lookup key, or some other arrangement I haven’t thought of off the top of my head. If there are two actual user records, it’s clearly aggregating them for the post count. Oh well. I shouldn’t be surprised - I’ve seen some very strange data schemas in my time.

Off to MPSIMS.

I have it on good authority that manhattan is, in real life, Charo.

Cecil who?

Actually, I am not much of a celebrity; I’m still in the “wannabe” status. My book comes out in March, though, and I’ll be selling myself mercilessly then.

No, no, you must have heard me wrong. Damn cell phones. I didn’t say Charo, I said he’d probably be drunk again tomorrow.

Bad Astronomer:

That’s right! I forgot about you being here. Certainly having a column in a science mag, articles on the net, interviews and the whole Fox Moon hoax thing have made you a certified celebrity. In fact, if I was in charge of certifying celebrities, I’d stamp your forehead as
“Officially Stupendous Man Certified Celebrity!” right now.

Cheers.

Any examples I might know of…?

Coochie-Coochie!

I’v met manhattan, and I can confirm that yep, he’s Charo.

[sub]damn, what a way to use my 6000th post…[/sub]

Not a celebrity yet. But some day…
