Any Christian Dopers . . . any at all?

Mostly mainline (who has not completely abandoned evangelical upbringing) protestant here.

Soup_du_jour and Tygr , you both identified as being Lutheran. Which synod? I grew up LCMS, changed to the LCA(which morphed into the ELCA) and am now settled with being an Episcopalian. A Sunday school teacher to boot, which I never was before. Felt compelled to leave the LCMS because I had these radical notions that women and men should have complete equality in the church. As I’ve mentioned in a couple of other threads, I liked what the cathedral provost said when I was taking classes before being received into Episcopalian membership “Being Episcopalian means you don’t have to check you brains at the door!”

And I see Kinsey and Padeye are Lutheran as well.
By the way Padeye, I still don’t know where to send a card/gift for the wedding

I think the potluck idea is a hoot! Should we reference back to the ChurchLady cooking thread? Everyone bring a dish that represents themselves or their church, or whatever the heck you like. As a baker I ALWAYS do bread or rolls, sometimes pie. So I am bringing two dozen hot soft bread rolls, and two chocolate pecan pies. Ask auntie em about the latter!

Even though you didn’t ask me, I’m an ELCA, lifelong member. I still attend the same Lutheran church where I grew up.

If I were to try to represent my church we’d be in trouble…just plain too much food…I grew up considerig it simply natural to eat dinner at church at least once a month.

PS-Any Philly dopers out there who are deciding to take me up on this…maybe we should name a time and place.

But be forewarned…the other nonreligious thing my church has taught me is a very healthy appreciation for the practical joke

Sign me up with the Catholics please.

Where’s the coffee?

Uhh wait, Luthern here, raised RC, married a PK, now I’s a Luthern, or RC once removed. <Smile> Church goin, Choir singing and all that stuff. Not only do I believe in JC, I believe the church as a whole is good for society. That’d be why I give em cash.

Southern Hemispherical Christian here. Our main tenet is that you should travel north for the winter.

Yikes!

That’ll teach me to assume that it’s obvious when I’m trying to make a funny.

For the record:
(a) I don’t think that southern baptists are, as a rule, any of the things I mentioned. I was poking fun at the stereotype that says that they are, and the stereotype that says that an atheist would buy into that stereotype.

(b) I most certainly am not trying to make anyone feel unwelcome. In fact, one of the things I respect the most about the SDMB is the fact that I can find people who I disagree with about incredibly fundamental things such as whether God exists, and have lively and respectful debates with them about topic great and small.

(At least Qixotica got the joke… I think…)

Another Roman Catholic here. Mass on Sundays and usually once or twice during the week, rosary during prayers at night. The whole schmiel.

StG

Another Christian Doper checking in. I even used to be somewhat popular around here, though it had nothing to do ith eloquence or intelligence. I got by on sheer volume, my friend.

Hey, you’re emphatically noticed – IMHO you’re the single best thing that Guinastasia has ever done for this board!

(But I wish you’d post in GD more!)

But what are you doing with a male Mennonite on your bed?

And, since Tygr hasn’t made it back here, I can answer that he and Jkayla go to an absolutely terrific ELCA church, beautiful and just my cup of tea as regards liturgy, with warm and wonderful people – if Barb and I weren’t so in love with St. Mark’s, it’d be just about our second choice for a church home.

As for Christians on the boards, there’s those who have been mentioned and have self-identified, and I know there’s more out there. For my first 18 months here or so I was one myself (of a moderate/conservative non-denom/Southern Baptist variety) and was at times outspoken about it. I still do greatly respect Christianity.

Potlucks? Potlucks!! Yummy! Though to be completely ecumenical, I must say that a recent Southern Baptist potluck I attended simply blew away all the Catholic potlucks of my youth, adolescence and adulthood combined. It was bountiful and sumptious. I came away with a vast appreciation for Southern Baptists on the strength of the dessert table alone.

Thanks, vanilla!

Hah! My colourblindness saved my eyes!

Wow. Am I such an avid Trekker that you forget I’m a Christian, too? Check out GD right now and you’ll see me in there.

I tend to argue, though. Gotta learn to calm down, you know?

But, yeah… Buckle of the Bible Belt here, y’all.

OKC, OK, USA, North America, Western Hemisphere, Earth, Solar System, Milky Way, Local Group, Universe, Mind Of God.

I always get mentioned, although I haven’t been to church since Christmas. I’m a VERY liberal Catholic with an interest in liberation theology.

Christian here (garden-variety Protestant).

Don’t fret, Max, I knew all along you were just funnin’ us.

Muslims? Here? You’re right, they’re kind of scarce here, I wonder why…
Try Martin_ibn_Martin, our de facto imam.
