Any Christian Dopers . . . any at all?

Hey now!
With all you Christians getting together in here a Pagan can get kind of jumpy!
You guys aren’t stock piling wood and rope by any chance are you?:dubious:

I would have no idea to tell you what I am since I believe in a bit of everything. Mostly Wicca though since I like the nature aspect of it.
Is there a name for people like me who belive in God and Jesus and Wicca? No pokin’ fun either. I’ve been told Solitary Eclectic Pagan.

Neo-Pagan Spiritualist

Actually, I think it’s Spiritualist, but i could be mistaken.

Wow! I’ve never had a thread take off like this before. Nice to “meet” all you guys.

How 'bout some chicken and dumplings?
And some apple pie?

Right now I’m reading “Mere Christianity” by C.S. Lewis. For the second time. Of course the first time many years ago I didn’t get through he 3rd chapter. Not exactly light reading. But I recommend it. Pretty heavy stuff.

Oh, BTW, Church of Christer here. We’re pretty liberal though. We believe that other people can get to heaven too.

In my church, potlucks usually consist of ham-buns and potato salad. Maybe there’s cheese on them ham-buns, but there’s no guarantee.

Us Christian Reformers are funny like that. For years, I though ham-buns were honest-to-goodness Dutch cuisine.

If anybody wants mama’s ham-bun recipe, I’d be glad to email it.
Happy

You gotta admire the many sides of NCB.

I survived the Baptist church and am not too worn out.

(deliberately vague)

Thanks, Vivalovesjesus. You’se a good girl, too.

May the Force be with you.

Always.

Hey Copper_moon have you seen Shadowlands? It’s a beautiful movie about C.S. Lewis, starring Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Oh, BTW, another Roman Catholic here. Sorry I’m so late signing in, I can’t tell you how guilty I feel about it! Please excuse my rush, but I’m off to confession.

Wow, I just found this thread. I think I qualify on all counts, with post count and Biola U. diploma.

(Actually, I’m not sure there’s anything to brag about with the Biola thing, but, um, it’s there.)

www.vcfanaheim.com That’s the big, original Vineyard. (That’s supposed to be bragging again, but really it’s where I could get a ride to when I started.)

I he’p with the younguns of the high school age.

BTW, did you know that John Wimber, founder of the Vineyard movement, also founded the Righteous Brothers? Go look it up. He’s listed under “arrangers” on their hits album.

d_redguy and I are Catholic. I haven’t always been, though, as you can see here.

I’m fine with pretty much every religion, though. With a few exceptions. (Satanists scare me, for example.) Lack of religion is okay with me too, if that’s what makes someone happy.

It’s all right – I also just found this thread. Copper Moon, not only are there a bunch of Christians around here, you’ve shared a thread with one. Of course, as an Episcopalian, I’ve been known to say with great pride that we claim Madeleine L’Engle, C.S. Lewis, and Polycarp! (Not to mention Steve Wright, Bricker, and others.) I’m not conventional – two of my closest friends are Wiccans – but I am devout.

Welcome to the Board – it can be a fantastic place to learn things you never even dreamed existed. I’ll look forward to seeing you.

Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) here. The People of the Parenthesis. I guess I’m pretty liberal, and several years ago was liberated right out of the fundamentalist church I grew up in. Whee! It’s been scary and fun and exciting, learning about other Christian beliefs and trying things that I was taught were ‘sinful’ (hooray for alcohol!) and having to think through and reevaluate all my various doctrinal beliefs.

A Pentecostal fellowship of my acquaintance has regular suppers provided by the congregation. They do not call them Pot Luck suppers, though. They don’t believe in luck, as a matter of doctrine. So, they had to come up with a new name for their suppers.

Now they call them “Mixed Blessings.”

Tris

christian, i go to a FWC in dublin, so i’m probably classed as a pentecostal type person,
although i was christened as an anglican and confirmed as a presbyterian.
so one more for the list.

Church lady cooking! (drool) Count me in for the potluck. My local Episcopal church does a brunch of first Sunday. Unbelievable what can be done with eggs and a casserole I tell ya!

Hmm…what to bring…what to bring. I have a sausage and egg casserole that’s killer. Also a corn pudding thing. Maybe, deviled eggs. There can never be too many deviled eggs, least that’s true down here in the southern part of Merka. Or potato salad. Must be at least six different kinds of potato salad. How bout a big bowl of collard greens? [sub]Whaddya mean yuck?[/sub]

Just to be clear…

This was a reply to Kricket’s question.

(chucks Max on the arm) Thanks. My sensitivity meter was running a little high I guess. :smack: There. That should fix it. But I agree with you. I’ve never found such stimulating conversation with such a diverse group of people. I just finished reading the Merry Christmas, Polycarp thread. I have to say: Christian or not, there are a lot of good hearts here.

I guess I would count as a “Doper Of Other Faith”. I’m (AFAIK), the board’s one and only Baha’i. But there are 7 million of us world wide, and growing all the time, so it can’t be too long til another one pops in! Our Faith also teaches us about “independent investigation of truth”, and since that’s largely what this board is about, I’d think it would be appealing. Baha’is in general, and I particularly, are very tolerant and aceepting of other religions and belief systems, so it takes a lot to offend me!

Welcome to the Boards, Copper:slight_smile:

What are ham-buns?

Does this make sense to anyone ?

Also, how do you quote several people in the same response instead of quoting each of them in individual posts?

Umph. The Mennonite goth friend was on my bed because my husband and I have a bachelor apartment, and my husband was on the couch. I, of course, was on the computer. There’s really no other space except the floor.
Copper_moon, Mr. Lissar has just gone on an enormous George MacDonald kick- you know, one of the guys Lewis refers to as his “spiritual fathers”? I’m reading Lilith now that he’s finished it. Good stuff. I also recommend (pulling out my personal One Trick) G.K. Chesterton, Lewis’ other spiritual father. Also very good, and sometimes very funny.

I don’t usually post in GD, Polycarp, because I need to do things like eat and sleep, and it’s so easy to forget everything else if I’m debating. I love it, though.
