Hey all! With the pleasing number o’ sci-fi nerds around here, I figured someone other than I must be planning to attend the big Doctor Who convention in Los Angeles the weekend of Feb. 26.
My husband and I always have a blast. Some of this year’s featured guests include Katy Manning (Jo), Sarah Sutton (Nyssa), Frazier Hines (Jamie). So, anyone else going?
At a Gallifrey convention a few years ago, I got a little loopy at the bar and ran into Steven Moffat, who (at the time) was writing for the new series, and he also created the TV show Coupling. I was just drunk enough to talk to him, and I told him I loved Coupling. He said thanks and introduced me to the lady he was with - Susan.
I was like, “Susan? Like Susan from Coupling? Is that show really based on your own person life?”
He was like, “You’re retarded and go away from me.” Well, he didn’t say that, but his *eyes *did.
Tell me about your favorite convention experience. Anyone ever dress in costume? Encounter your childhood idol in the elevator? Shake Spock’s hand?
I was tempted to go, I know a lot of people who are going, but as I’m really only familiar with the new series, I don’t know if there’d be much for me to do.
(Perhaps now that David Tennant is no longer in the show, he would be able to attend next year. [And as he’s a huge fan of the show, it’s likely he will sooner or later.] Now *that *would get me to fly out there!)
(I dressed as the Doctor for Halloween this past year, so I have the costume ready if I ever do go!)
I almost dread the day David Tennant comes to a Gallifrey convention. Imagine the crowds! And yeah, they really do focus on the older series, but they’ve been involving the new series more and more. A few years back, Noel Clark (Mickey from the new series) was a guest, and this year Georgia Moffet (The Doctor’s Daughter) is a guest.
