Any Dopers in the Minneapolis area want to get together?

Bucky Beadalin Bluesman Silver_Fire
Danalan Canthearya FreakFreely

Torgo: Sorry you won’t be there. Would have been cool to meet ya!

sardyr: After a place is decided upon, I will post a map here from one of the map programs on the internet. I’m sure any locals who know the area better than I will make any changes to the map and directions if they know a better way.

Let me know what city you are coming from, please, and I’ll post a link to direct driving directions from there. If you want to e-mail me privately your actual address, I can send you door-to-door driving directions as well.

Silver_Fire: Okay, we can now see how cute and wonderful you are! Add you to the guest list?

FreakFreely: Glad to add you to the guest list!

As to where “there” is, I am not in change of the planning. People here seem to like this place Brits Pub and unless anyone has any serious objections, and as long as our younger Doper friends can safely join us, then that works for me!

I will need to get to the airport at 3:30 PM, and it’s about a half hour drive from there according to my map program.

If we started this up at noon, I could stay until 3:00, which is a good three hours. Judging from past Dopefests, that ain’t a lot of time, but we’ll make due!

And who is driving me to the airport?!?

Well, one of the things my dad once said about me is that I could hold a conversation with anyone. Even the Devil. I guess I’m about to find out if he’s right…
Also, if I could put in my two cents here, I’ve always been rather fond of Key’s Cafe on Nicollet. That and it’s really easy to find. Oops, I don’t have any pennies. Does anyone have change for a nickel?

Am coming from St. Cloud, Satan - I don’t need door to door directions, just what exit to take off of 94/35 and exact directions afater that. Thanks, though

Am looking forward to this already…

And, Satan…you might want to think about getting a copy of “How to Talk Minnesotan” before you show - is an, um, interesting primer

Hell, just rent *Fargo[i/].

I have to disagree. While people are generally pretty polite in Minnesota, that “How To Talk Minnesotan” and “Fargo” stuff really only applies in the rural areas. Most people from most moderately urban areas are pretty much the same. At least from state to state they are, I don’t know about other countries. But that’s just my opinion.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Was a joke, guys, get over it.

My rellys from Oregon got a kick out of it when they were here a couple of weeks ago, though, especially after the incident with Uncle Edgar.

I AM in Stearns County, remember - and out in Benton they still practice the “one finger wave”.

In Brooklyn we also have a “one finger wave,” but I don’t think I will show it in polite company…

TIME ELAPSED SINCE I QUIT SMOKING:

3073 cigarettes not smoked, saving $384.16.

No, Satan, not quite the same thing. Minnesotans are supposed to be nice, you know.

Hey, I SAID “supposed to be”!!

Actually, I think Minnesotans are pretty nice.
Sorry about that sandyr, I just love contradicting you.

No kidding

And you know, I added that second line because I was sure that if I mentioned “Minnesota Nice” someone would come along and talk about how rude we seem to be.

Will be an interesting dinner, eh? Make sure we’re at opposite ends of the table

Yeah, I can just see it now…

“Hey, could you pass the salt?”
“Sure!”
“Whoa! That almost hit me!”
“That was the idea. Pepper?”

Hehehehehehehehehehe

Freak, I would NOT throw the salt at you. It can be cleaned up too easily. I don’t recommend asking for any butter, though :stuck_out_tongue:

“When the moon hits your eye, like a big pizza pie-… No wait, that is* a pizza. Not as bad as a moon. But still, ouch!”

Add me to the list…LONG time lurker, so don’t judge based upon my post count. If we are voting for a venue, I will ad Town Hall brewery to the list…good brews made on premises , and always a good selection of Belgians on tap. Laid back college atmosphere. Ok, enough free advertising…

Glad to have anyone abooard regardless of post count OR age! The more the merrier, right?

We have a while to go before this - not quite a month - so we don’t need to know exactly where and when right this second. We can argue about it a bit!

To reinterate: As long as young’uns can come (though acting a little more maturely than above - heh, heh!) and I can leave (on time, prefereably), it’s cool with me.

Anyone else wanna come by? Maybe someone from the Dakotas? I mean, you may as well try and come out since nobody is gonna make it all the way there!

They have lamps there - I’d kill him

I can’t contribute to the discussion on where to meet - I only get down there about 6 times a year and we either eat at places like Mickey D’s or Aquavit. I don’t know of any in-between places…

AS for Dakota Dopers - if there’s anyone that wants to spend the night in St. Cloud before heading back west I have a sleeper sofa they’re welcome to borrow, as long as they’re not allergic to cats.

Sure, if i can arrange it in time, I’ll join you all. Once I learn the specifics I’ll be able to tell you for sure if I can or not.

Okay! A nice guest list here with the chances of more people to be added to the list as we draw closer!

Now, I think the fairest thing here would be to have the local Doper with the highest post count pick the establishment.

The winner would be… Canthearya!!

Here are the parameters in which you must abide:
[ul]
[li]Either near the hotel I’m staying at or the airport I’m going to.[/li][li]Dopers of all ages can join in the fun![/li][li]Open between the hours of 12-3 PM on a Sunday.[/li][li]Something nobody immediately goes “Ew” at the thought of.[/li][li]Someplace where casual attire is acceptable.[/li][li]If any Dopers are vegetarians, a place they can eat with normal people (:p) would be best.[/li][li]On a personal note: Beer GOOD!! :D[/li][/ul]
A couple of places were suggested above, so use those as your guide. Throw out the place of your choice (when you know it fits the criteria above) and we’ll see what the other Dopers think and we’re there!

WOO!

Anyone objects to the fine eatery suggested by rubes?

I assume it’s open between the hours mentioned above, right?

Are we cool with this?
