Any Dublin based Doper what to take photos for me?

Hi Dub-dopers.

Do any of you live / work anywhere near this area (warning PDF link) (Another, probably better view here)

I’m sure you have heard, but if not,

U2 (yes, the band) are planning to build a new restaurant / offices / recording studio / Tower- a landmark building for Dublin on the site shown.

It is an competition open to all suitably registered Architects who wish to be involved. We (well, me) plan to put a scheme together for the competition. You never know…
(Full information about it here)

Is anyone in this area? Anywhere near it? Could someone take a load of digital photos of the site and e-amil them to me?

Or is it miles out of the way? To be honest, I’m not sure exactly where it is, myself. Could y’all let me know if it’s possible.

Thanks a lot. BTW, I’m not doing my submission though my office, so won’t get time off to come visit it myself.

Aro, I drive past this development every morning. It’s surrounded by 8-ft high site barriers at the moment - what kind of pictures are you looking for?

I’m looking for some shots that show the surrounding buildings. We have to produce specific perspectives of the proposed building for our submission. These are better done from a human perspective rather than from the arial view, as supplied.

It always looks better if you can set the building in context, with the buildings on the other side of the river behind etc…

See the second photo - there is a curved point, with ‘grass’ (at the bottom) where the link is between the Grand Canal Dock and the Liffey. Some photos from there looking across to the site with the opposite bank of the Liffey shown would be ideal.

Is there public access to that area? (looks like a white van is parked in there)

Not sure. I’ll have a scoot around tomorrow morning and see what I can do for you.

Thanks, that would be great.

You know, it doesn’t matter what anyone else says about you, I think you’re dead on.

Feck off.

Ok. Ok. I must admit it. I read every one of jjimm’s posts* so I have to defend him here.

:bonks Aro on the nose:

*[sub]Don’t worry; I’m not stalking you or anything. No, really. I’m not! Ask Twisty to vouch for my good character. I’d be interested to hear what he had to say on the matter.[/sub]

Ana, it was a silly joke, my comment. As was jjimms response too.

But thanks for the bonking… I Kinda liked it…

Aro, remember, I’m married to a Dubliner, I get these jokes. Really, I do.

But obviously not enough to remember that ‘bonking’ in Americanglish is not the same as ‘bonking’ in Ir/English. OOops.

Noseybonk?

You do?!! :o I’m both flattered, and entirely unworthy of such an accolade. Unless of course you’re printing them out to stick in your voodoo shrine…

Don’t ask Twisty to defend me, as I am the man who stuck a rizla to the end of his nose while he was asleep in my living room this summer, and laughed at him as the rizla fluttered in his snores. I think I might have a picture somewhere.

I think it bears a striking resemblence.
You really must tell me where you purchased that fabulous hair gel and sarong.

Oh, and I’ll give you a chunk of stinky French cheese for a copy of that photo.

I’ll have a look for you. Send the cheese sea-mail so it can get nice and runny.

Cool - we’ve come back to the subject of photography! No hijack, you see.

Aro, please tell me this won’t be a U2 Oirish-themed restaurant. (Even if it will be, just tell me that it won’t.)

Sorry for the hijinxy hijack of your thread, too. It was fun while it lasted.

No, it won’t be. But I’ll push the idea in our design proposals…

It is a developer-led project, which was of the ground before U2 ever got involved. The restaurant and offices are the main part of the design, the recording studio an later addition.

It has only been recently that U2 got involved, stating an interest in the site. This has obviously raised the profile a lot, and the idea of the open competition was born.

(more here)

A member of U2 is on the judging panel for the competition, but they really only have interests in the design of the recording studio. The rest is privately owned and financed.

Suggest you subliminally spell out the words “The Edge Rocks” with the edges of the windows.

We were initially thinking of a really subtle design of a building shaped like a ‘U’ and a ‘2’. Or a big lemon. Or a shopping cart. Or a guitar / microphone. Or a…

Kill me now. :stuck_out_tongue:

Glitterball?

That’s our idea for the top of the tower!

Don’t give away any more of our design secrets…others may be watching…<<looks around for suspicious looking people spying on this thread>>…

One can only imagine the elevator music in that building.

Somehow, “Sunday Bloody Sunday” in Muzak doesn’t frighten me as much as the menu of the Oirish restaurant.
