I heard her “Bell, Book and Candle” recently and was floored by it! There aren’t many hyper-introspective folkie chicks in my CD collection at the moment, but Eddi do be puttin’ a stop to that.
Yeah I got some of her early stuff - with Fairground Attraction and her first epomymously named solo album. Good stuff I remember - and I heard good things about “Bell Book and Candle” but never got around to buying a copy. Sounds like I should really reconsider, eh?
I had too much introspective hippie folkie stuff in my collection a while back so trying to explore different avenues for a while…
I haven’t heard her stuff with Fairground Attraction, but this song is extremely… lush. Quiet and haunting without being precious.
I know what you mean about other avenues. You can OD on the touchy feely crap.
Go get Mirmama.
It’s perfect.
I got a couple of her albums. Can’t remember the names of both off the top of my head, but one has ‘Joke’ and ‘Dear John’ on it and the other is Angels & Electricity. I would rceommend both.
I ordered Angels and Electricity from Amazon earlier in the week.
Thanks for the recs.!
Her weakest album is the self-titled followup to Mirmama; Mirmama is her strongest.
Some of you know how obsessed with music I am, and how eclectic my tastes are. (Those of you who don’t, I’m obsessed with music and my tastes are eclectic.)
Mirmama is in my lifetime top ten; usually in the top three. It’s one of the most astonishing and perfect albums ever recorded. I’ve given dozens of copies away, even when I could only get it as an expensive import. I urge everyone who doesn’t have it to goddam get it.
Anyone know if Fairground Attraction’s Bsides ever made it to CD? Equipoise has my vinyl copies, with such gems as “You Send Me” and “Walking After Midnight.”
I do? Oh, I guess I do. Well, move back to Chicago, ya bastard!
Both of those songs are on the CD “Aye Fond Kiss.” I have the CD and the songs on mp3. I didn’t realize you didn’t have that. Expect an email.
I should explain to the mods that lissener and I have been friends for 13 years. That was meant, believe it or not, affectionately.
