Any hairdressers in the house?

As my hair gets more and more grey, it has occurred to me that I’m going to have to lighten up from my current practice of dying it back to chocolate brown some day, since I don’t want to be one of those wrinkled old ladies with unnaturally dark brown hair.

My question to the hair professionals (or people with experience in this) is - how do I get my salt-and-pepper hair lighter without going orange or brassy? In my experience, if I just bleach it a little, it will go orange, and I would prefer something ashy, not brassy - something like this light brown shown here.

Do I have to actually go to a salon to do this? Is this one of those times when I really shouldn’t be trying to do this myself?

i would go to a pro for the first time. you can always ask a ton of questions and get the colour recipe from the colourist.

if you are one of the lucky ones who go grey fantasticly well, there is a process called low lighting where instead of light colour high lights they put in dark colour low lights.

if heard on style court that the having to go lighter is not a hard rule anymore. you can go with your nat. colour and go with highlights around your face.

of course you could always go with the mrs slocum change the colour everyday thing.

Hm, highlights around my face without going lighter all over, eh? Interesting concept. I will have to consider this.
