My gal and I will possibly be traveling next month–however, we will not be able to fly at exactly the same times.
I know there’s no problem buying tickets for other people for the same itinerary, but I could have sworn I heard someone somewhere in the past say that for a ticket purchase, one of the names on the ticket has to be the credit card holder.
Since we will not be flying on the same schedules (and the other person does not have a card), it will be two ticket purchases.
I have not seen anything on any of the online websites saying it’s prohibited, so I’m assuming it should be OK.
Anyone with a confirmation?
My fiance bought me a ticket when I travelled for Thanksgiving. He wasn’t able to do it online because we don’t have the same last name (yet), but he was able to do it over the phone with his own credit card.
No problem. At least when I book on-line on United, I’m prompted for the name of the passenger, which does not have to be me.
I’ve done it; last year I bought a ticket for my then-girlfriend (now my wife) on a flight that I wasn’t on. I don’t remember the specifics of how I did it, but it was no problem. I probably went through Expedia.
I’ve done it several times recently for my daughter. You can list the passenger name and a different name for the credit card information.
The passenger name needs to be correct and the passenger will be asked for picture ID before they get the ticket, but as long as the credit card is legit, no one cares.
A friend of mine wants to buy tickets to go to China with her father-in-law after her baby is born, but can’t get tickets for quite a while. The airlines won’t give you a ticket unless they know the sex of the baby, which is hard 'cause it isn’t born yet.
I ran into this when trying to buy tickets directly from Delta’s online site. In that case the name on the credit card does have to match the name of one of the passengers.
Funny…my wife doesn’t have any problem doing this. She books under her maiden name for business, but uses my credit card to pay for it. Never had any problems so far!
My parents and best friend have all bought ariline tix for me through expedia using their credit cards (mine has a $500 limit). I’ve never had any problems whatsoever.
I had no problems buying a ticket on Southwest about 3 months ago… she was flying back for an emergency from FL to NH, then returning. I bought the ticket, using her name as the passenger, she arrived and used the “e-ticket”, our last names are different. I used my credit card.
