Any Hatfield or McCoy relatives here?

If so, this Yahoo! story about the Disease underlies Hatfield-McCoy feud theory might make for some enlightened reading.

Do you know if your ancestry includes any connections?

I’m not, but I know a woman here who is a McCoy relative (her boys went to school with my kids). She suffers from the eye tumors. She’s had many surgeries, but the Doctor says she’ll eventually go blind anyway. :frowning:

I know descendants of both families, I’ll pass this on to them in case they haven’t heard about it yet.

I am a Hatfield, I don’t know any McCoys. I went to school with one but didn’t hang out with her much.
Big joke between the families as her father was my grandparents insurance guy.

I just now found out about the deadly disease. I am 39 and have a lot of the symptoms. Been to hospital twice and have found nothing wrong except a heart paplaption (mis-spelled). Like to find out more on how I can find out if I have this disease. If i will have this disease. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The link isn’t working for me.

Well, it IS 5 years old.

Here’s a link to another 5 year old story on the topic.

I personally do not think that is the base cause. I have noticed that pretty much up until about 1900, most people had anger management issues - resorting to violence was pretty much condoned in society so there was not as much push towards being reasonable. Now we place more weight on peaceful settlement of issues, or resorting to taking someone to court instead of fighting things out physically.

Think about it - duels, wars, fisticuffs - how many things in history could have just as easily been settled by calmly discussing something instead of mounting up and letting loose the dogs of war.

I just heard yesterday that I’m related to the Hatfields through marriage. I’d kinda like to see proof this time, since I was also told we were related to the McIlhenny’s of Tabasco fame, but that turned out to be just a same last name in a recently discovered part of the family tree :dubious:.

I am a descendant of the Hatfields. All of the articles I have read on a disease is linked to the McCoy lineage. While I don’t think that had any bearing on the feud, it would be interesting to find out if this is related just to the McCoys, or more families in that area.
