Any interest in doing an NFL Playoffs fantasy draft?

The fewer players we draft the more irratic the league will be. If we only have 1 player at critical positions then the matchups will often come down to the guy who’s playing 5 remaining players vs the guy who only has 2. You could consider this a feature I suppose, but I’d like to have something more like the rosters mentioned in the OP. Maybe make up for some of the lack of choice in the draft by having more flex spots.

I dislike the idea of a redraft. A single draft, along with a final count of points at the end of the Super Bowl, adds a lot more dimension and reduces the importance of draft order.

I’m pretty sure that’s exactly how it will play out. Whoever guesses the Superbowl teams correctly are almost guaranteed to win, since they’ll be the one with five guys against the opponent’s two. (Note that the OP specifies no bench; everyone on the roster starts every game.)

The NFL.com postseason challenge sounds interesting. It’s basically an uncapped salary cap league with bonuses for correctly guessing which teams win. See what you guys think:

This might be the easiest way for us to handle it. I couldn’t register (it errored out) but we could use their rules ourselves. No draft to coordinate, no player salaries to worry about. In a nutshell, you pick anyone you want on your roster each week. Duplicates allowed, no bench.

Any player on your roster for consecutive weeks scores x times his points. First week he earns regular points, second week he earns double points, third week he earns triple and fourth week he earns quadruple.

This would be simple to implement because all we’d have to do is have everyone submit their full roster whenever is convenient for them. For choosing your roster, you don’t have to worry about who is already taken or if you can afford him under the cap.

If not the only postseason league, this at least may be low-impact enough to do in addition to a draft league.

I like the idea of an exclusively-owned style FF league too, but I’m always up for more football competitions so I’d probably do both.

Yeah, same here. Drafting is half the fun, so I’d hate to abandon it altogether. But that NFL.com system does sound pretty fun.

I think we do two. The NFL.com one and the traditional single draft fantasy league.

Works for me. I created a Playoff Challenge league and a separate thread devoted to it. Hopefully everyone who posted here will join, since it’s low impact and shouldn’t interfere with the draft league.

Moving the challenge league to a separate thread should help let this one get refocused back on the draft league. Any ideas as to when and how the draft should take place?

I vote we use the system outlined in the OP, since it seems to have a plurality of support.

Guess this is dead?

Yeah, I suppose I could’ve taken a stronger leadership role here. I was mostly throwing out the idea to see if it would stick. I guess it wasn’t a realistic notion that it would self-coalesce.

If we can find 6 people who want to draft tonight I’d still be up for it. I’m available most of the night.

Oh crap it’s Friday already, I forgot about this. I’m in. Better pick a format quickly and set a time that people could sign up for.

Well, later is actually better for me, like 9:30 or so. That or rather early, like 6:45-7:00, if we have 6 that are at their computers and ready to go.

As for format, I think totally generic is the way to go:

25/10/10
6 per TD
-2 for turnovers
+2 for 2 point conversion

DEF:
1 for sacks
2 for INT/Fumble recovery
2 for safeties
12 for shutouts
8 for 1-6 allowed
5 for 7-13
3 for 14-20
0 for 21-27
-1 for 28-34
-4 for 35+

1 for PATs
3 for all FGs

I assume you mean eastern… since 7 is only a half hour away I don’t think we’d get enough people in time. If we can get the people I can be around at 9:30 eastern. What rosters are we looking at? How would it go, random draft order, guy drafting first posts his pick, and the next guy posts his, and so on?

Right, Eastern.

Standard rosters (in the OP). Random draft order, serpentine, and everyone refreshing the thread page like mad to make sure we keep things moving.

Uh, so yeah, I guess if you can make it in about 3 hours at 9:30 eastern, post now. For those of you that miss out, blame Varlos! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll be there [or more precisely HERE] at 8:30 central!!

I can do 9:30 eastern

Well, our options are to draft with people who are around, or try to move this to like 2-3pm EST tomorrow afternoon when there will probably be more people around. It looks like only 4 people are around currently.

Yeah, looks like tomorrow afternoon may be better, which is suddenly fine by me, as a couple of friends are coming over in an hour or so and I wasn’t looking forward to having them watch me finish a fantasy draft.

So, does 2 pm eastern work for enough people?
