Long story short, I had an amazing opportunity to visit Japan. I had an absolutely wonderful time in your country. I have some yen bills leftover (not change) and I went to sell it back to the bank and the fees mean I basically will get back a dollar. Welp, I’d rather pack it up nicely and mail it to someone who can use it. Why don’t you just keep it for the next time you go to Japan? You may think that unlikely, but in this life you never know. That’s what I do with my leftover foreign bills, and it almost always turns out that I go back to that country eventually, even if it’s years later.
It is going to be a long time and I’d rather someone just use them now!
Or you could expand your offer to Dopers that may be visiting Japan in the near future.
