I think Christopher Lloyd would be great as Leonard’s dad.
I could see Lloyd playing the clueless professor…what dear? Oh, it’s time to make Baby #3? Fine, let me put away these fossils first.
I think Leonards Dad should be the anti-geek, F. Lee Emery comes to mind first.

His dad borrowed Leonard’s hugging machine. It has to be someone so intimidated by his wife’s sociopathic personality he wouldn’t ask for sex. How about Mark Linn-Baker, formerly of Perfect Strangers? He’s the right age, height, and has the timid/neurotic thing down pat.
Lithgow’s too tall, but what about French Stewart? He even has the hair.

There’s a lot we know about the guys’ families.
Sheldon’s Mom is a nice Fundist who has smoked. His Dad is deceased. He has one fraternal twin sister & maybe other siblings who are “dumb as soup”.
Howard’s Mom is a shrill Jewish widow who apparently isn’t quite clear on how old Howard is or what he does.
Rajneesh’s parents are, of course, Hindu & his Dad is a gynecologist. They’re always trying to fix him up.
Leonard’s Mom we met. But was she ALWAYS the uptight emotionless rationalist?
Ditto for his unseen anthropologist father.
Let’s assume Leonard is 30. His parents could have been drugged-out hippies or Children of God. His Dad could have fought in Nam & went all Kurtz (paging R. Lee). Maybe their emotionless rationalism is an over-reaction to having a wild crazy youth.
OR maybe Leonard’s Mom has Asperger’s, assuming that Sheldon does. Hmmm!
Btw, my idea for last episode, IF they don’t get Leonard & Penny together sooner.
Leonard gives up on her & accepts the proposal of marriage from … Leslie Winkle.
Sheldon of course hates her but also realizes she won’t make Leonard happy & actually realizes Leonard & he ARE friends. He rounds up Howard & Rajneesh and they all confront Penny with what she & Leonard mean to each other. She arrives to stop the wedding, perhaps in a parody of The Graduate.
Last scene is at least one of Leslie’s parents saying something like "Whew! That would never have worked out anyway!’
Parent of course played by either John Goodman or Rosanne Barr.
OK, first why have we stopped the new weekly thread and gone back to this one? Just curious.
I liked it mostly. Some of it was no surprise, I knew straight off what Sheldon and Leonard’s mom were going to do. Poor Leonard. When you are in bed with a hot woman and she tells you to shush - shush!
Or, to quote Chrissie Hynde “I shot my mouth off and you showed me what that hole was for”. Penny should have applied that principal to Leonard.
