I’m signed on for PokerStars and PartyPoker; I really like the former, not too geeked up about the latter. Any other sites that are out there that come w a Doper Seal of Approval? If I dont find anything else I like better I’m gonna stick some money into PokerStars later this week.
The cheapskate in me likes the PokerStars freeroll tourneys (I entered my first one yesterday, no-limit hold-em w 6000 entrants, and finished 13th, when the top nine finishers got a seat at a $500 game). Any other sites have tourneys like that?
thanks for the help.
(Paging Otto…Otto, please pick up the white courtesy phone…Otto, paging Otto…)
The only site I play is PokerRoom, because it and its skins are the only ones that are Mac-compatible. I like the site just fine. They’ve had some major issues with capacity and connectivity lately but those seem to have been cleared up. They have both a download and a Java-based client; I use the Java and have only ever been disconnected once.
If you want to start off with some extra play money and be eligible for a bonus should you decide to make a real money deposit, email me for a referral before creating an account. I’ve also created a Straight Dope group within the site’s Pokah! forum so should you decide to create a PR account you can apply to join that group. A bunch of us attempt weekly tournaments, with varying results (I have yet to land on the same server with the rest of the group).
Well, I’m an Otto, so maybe I can help. I think you’ll find www.bonuswhores.com interesting and informative. I’m more of a break-even player so I use the site to find the best bonuses, but they rank the poker sites and break it down by game.
I like party poker personally because they have the loosest tables. Absolute Poker has great bonuses for reloading accounts, and if you have a big enough bankroll you could probably clear $8000.00 in bonuses alone in a year. Unfortunatly thier software is horrible, so it has its downsides.
thanks for the suggestions. A friend referred me to Bodogand its $20 minimum deposit (meeting the ‘fly under the wife’s radar’ criteria). I put 20 stones on there last night, played in a 10 player $5 sit-and-go, took second place and won $15.
Still trying to decide if 4-5 of the other guys were dumping to the eventual winner or just really, really poor poker players.
Otto, a buddy and I were having trouble getting on the same PR server. If you just log out and log back in, you’ll get a different server. Not sure how many servers they have, but it’s never taken us more than a couple of tries to land on the same one.
So if you can’t find the room you’re looking for, just close it, open back up and look. I bet you can find the correct room pretty quickly.
