I have noticed numerous past SDMB threads about online poker. I think it’s likely at least some of you play at PokerStars; so if there is any interest, then I will host a private tournament (password required so that only us SDMB members join). I played enough real money at PokerStars for them to consider me a ‘frequent player’ and PS has likewise extended to me the privilege to be able to host my own private tourneys.
I want this tournament to be fun. It will be a freeroll tournament (no buy-in fee). We will play no limit Texas holdem since it seems to be the most popular format although it doesn’t matter to me whether we play no limit, fixed limit, pot limit, holdem, stud, or omaha.
If any Dopers are interested, then I can also host a real money tournament as well.
If this thread develops then we will discuss tournament starting time. Any dopers are welcome to join, but I believe a PC with a Windows OS is required to play at PS (sorry Mac users).

Here is our most recent poker thread. We are about 16 players strong and some of us play on other Poker sites as well. We do have a weekly tournament on Pokertropolis (Thrusdays, 7pm PST, 10pm EST) and play for bragging rights. Some of us have expressed interest in a money tournament between Dopers only, so some of us would jump on it. Also, any Doper is more than welcome to join us as well. We have a lot of fun (using AIM).
We aren’t married to Pokertropolis, and maybe we’ll move onto a different Poker site (we had started on Pokerroom last year). Bodog was another consideration as well.
I am hoping that we can all get together to play. The more Dopers, the better!
I’m in. I’ve never played at PokerStars but the reason the SDMB WPT has been at Pokertropolis is because it was the only place that would let us have private tournaments. If we have a reliable way to do that at PokerStars the gang might be willing to make the change. We usually play Thursdays at 10pm EST.
PokerRoom and its skins are now offering private do-it-yourself tournaments, single or multiple table, and AFAIK setting one up on one skin makes it accessible to all the skins in the network. I won’t play for real money on PR because they are nasty nasty people but I do play through the Hollywood Poker skin. If a cash tournament gets going on PR that I can access through HP then I would play. Or if anyone wants to join HP (and get fabulous referral bonuses) and set up some Doper tournaments there exclusively, email me for a referral.
AFAIK being on a Mac I still can’t access PokerStars, otherwise I would play.
I’m signed up at PokerStars, but never funded an account there. All of my fundage is at PartyPoker. I’ll see what the minimum transfer is from Party and into Stars and go from there. My account at Party is doing well
Hard enough to get one night a week free to play, just don’t make it on Thursdays.
Sure, but what’s the point fo that. We are among freinds and it isn’t like it is for a lot of money.
I’m willing to go to Poker Stars. I only play at Pokertropolis for the SDMB WPT. Although you say freeroll, I assume that they still would require an entry fee. Yes?
Bad news. I cannot post a private freeroll tourney on PokerStars. There are private freerolls on the site but they are all special qualifiers. The site only allows me to host private tourneys with $10, $20, $30, $50, $100, $200, or $500 buy-in. It doesn’t bother me to play for real money but it would be more fun with more people and I undertand that most will only participate in a free tourney. Perhaps I will check out Pokertropolis.
If anyone is interested then I can host a private $10 tourney, but I was certainly hoping to do a freeroll.
