Any Dopers play at PokerStars?....I wanna host a freeroll for SDMB members only

Please don’t use Pokertropolis. They are also MAC-ist (or rather, antiMAC) Why can’t we play at Pokerroom?

Nah. A chat room is set up for gossip, tales from the front of the War Between the Sexes, “Whatcha listening to?”, and general ragging of each other.

We play for Doper bragging rights. Collusion would pretty much negate that. No Doper would collude to win bragging rights, that’s like bragging on your test score you got by copying. Uber lame.

Hey, ArchitectChore, I’m looking for a live game around here somewhere but I haven’t been able to find one. You want to try and get a game going if you don’t have one already?

brianjedi, I already host a game every Friday evening. Just email me if you’re interested.

I have played a few freebie games at PokerRoom. While I find the table graphics goofy and distracting, overall I think it plays pretty well. So…

Any other Mac-friendly sites someone wants to recommend?

Is PokerRoom OK to set up a weekly/whatever SDMB private tourney?

Let’s go people. SDMB poker is a force of nature like Jack Bauer.

AFAIK, the first SDMB Tourney started out at Poker Room.

Except that you couldn’t have a real tourney, you just had to open a room and start playing. In order to increase the blinds, somebody had to open a different room and then there was a mad scramble for everybody to find that room and get seated.

Then there was the problem of everybody starting at the same time. 2 people had to sit in and start a hand, and while they were playing, the others had to join before the hand ended. So one guy would have to win that hand, and one lose, before the table could start.

Repeat every time you want to increase the blinds. A pain in the butt.
PokerTropolis crashed last week during the tourney, but that’s the first hiccup we’ve had there, and it’s an actual “tournament”.

I’m not up on Macs, seems like most of the sites are geared towards the PC, but that’s all I’ve ever used.

I’m biscuit314 in both PokerStars and PokerRoom (you think of Polka Dot Door when on PokerRoom too, don’t you?). I’m game for any Doper event on either/both!

I’ll play at any site as long as it’s feasible other interested SDMB members.

I just did some testing on Poker Room and Hollywood Poker. A private tournament created on one site does appear on the other, so those of us (meaning me) who refuse to play directly on PR could still participate. Sit n Go tournaments can accomodate up to 30 people. Tourneys can be password protected so that only Dopers can play. The smallest available buy-in, though, is $5+50 (does not appear to be a play money option). If people are willing to put up that amount then at last the Macs and the non-Macs can play actual tournaments together.

What other sites are on this network?

Full Tilt Poker (http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/download.php) has Mac software in beta available for download. And there is currently a 100% bonus up to $600.

Never mind - PokerRoom, Hollywood Poker, Bayou Poker, Holdem Poker, Eurobet Poker, and BetOnBet Poker.

So where are we on this? Is someone about to start something? Shall I?

I’m looking at Full Tilt as a possible site. It has Mac software and has private tournaments available, but I still don’t know if there is a cost associated with setting one up.

This looks like a real possibility, so I would suggest that everyone that is interested check out the site while I wait for further info, which I will post for all to review.

p.s. the .net site is play money only software - go to the .com site for play plus real money software.

Don’t have the minimum OS requirements for FullTilt, so we’d have to play a couple on another site so I can win the cash I need to upgrade from y’all first.

Here’s my convo with Full Tilt support re private tournaments:

So, Architect (or anyone else who wants to set up a game), I think that’s all you need to know.

Personally, I would rather see a nominal fee (max $1) than a freeroll. I played a couple of freerolls at PokerStars and they were just insane. 5 table tourneys had people busting out at the rate of 5 or so per minute.

If I’m reading this right, to set up a private tourney on Full Tilt it has to be done by someone at Full Tilt.

The Hollywood Poker/Poker Room network is the better choice. Tournament setup is done by the players and is instantaneous. No reliance on staff or anyone else to set them up, no four day waiting period and no software issues to exclude players.

just someone make a decision (and please make sure it’s Mac accessible) and i’ll be happy to pay as much as $5 for the buy in

I think it’s up to the Mac people to try out the various sites and state a preference. Those of us stuck with PC’s can probably live with whatever you come up with.
