I’ve been trying to find similiar music to Katzenjammer for a while, but I always get stuck trying to categorize it. It’s sort of rock/pop/ska/folk/cabaret. Kaizers Orchestra and Streetlight Manifesto are the only ones I’ve been really able to find that compares, I’d be interested to get some Doper input.
Some examples:
A Bar In Amsterdam
Rock Paper Scissor
Cherry Pie
Shepherd’s Song (My favourite, but not the best example.)
Jill tracy Is a good start. She is slower and darker, but the same feel is there. A pandora station made with her name will get you all sorts of good stuff. If a female lead is not a must, there are a lot of bands like Gogol Bordello and The Legendary Shack Shakers that incorporate oompah, polka, and baltic music into a faster, punkier aesthetic. Also Beiruit, The Scarring Party .
Like in what way? Each song sounds radically different? Or do you want suggestions matched up to each song example, like Carbon Leaf & Great Big C’s Mary Mac, Elliott Brood’s “Write it All Down for You” and Cyberpiper’s " Step It Out Mary" are what my brain insists best match to “Rock-Paper-Sissors”?
The latter is easier, but as for the former: Enon. Not as radical as the band in the OP, but what is?
“In This City”
“Believo”
“Collette”
“Ashish”
“Mirror On You”
“Sabina”
As for other bands, I don’t know, Devotchka maybe?
Try going to Pandora and see if you can play them. I plugged in the name and got Johnny Flynn, Elliott Brood, and Flogging Molly.
If you got Elliott Brood out of Pandora, then my brain isn’t the only one who wanted to match the two bands up. Interesting.
