Is their dislike of Prince based on artistic grounds or do they hate him because he’s popular?
“Loving You”, though I rarely listen to it.
I think they they dislike Prince because he is popular and not to their taste.
He isn’t really to my taste either, but I do like a couple songs.
I confess that I have **Hit Me Baby One More Time ** by Britney Spears on my I-Pod. And I’m not deleting it!
F**k, yeah.
“Oops I Did It Again” by Britney Spears
“Copacabana” by Barry Manilow
“Xanadu” by Olivia Newton John and the Electric Light Orchestra
“You Should Be Dancing” by the BeeGees
“SOS” by ABBA
I’m not proud of this. It is what it is.
Anyone who calls himself a music snob but doesn’t like Prince is a retarded poseur.
I’m kind of embarrased at the number of songs I’ve seen on here and gone to buy on iTunes.
I’ve been able to keep myself from a some after listening to the preview…but others have been purchased. And I won’t yet admit to which ones (Britney Spears), but it’s just increased the need to keep my iPod away from my friends at all costs.
I have a large quantity of embarassing songs. Aqua, Britney, Mandy Moore, 'N Sync, NKOTB, Color Me Badd, Backstreet Boys, Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, and R. Kelly are some of the lowlights of my collection. I’m surprised I don’t have Snow on there, although I do have his fellow one-hit wonders Ini Kamoze and Paperboy.
I consider these artists the ultimate iPod theft deterrent.
Many of the songs mentioned in this thread already, including the Snakes on a Plane song. (Hey, it’s catchy, and it reminds me of the weekend my brother got married!)
Ace of Base
Billy Joel
Army of Lovers
Juice Newton
Kenny Rogers
Lipps, Inc. (Funky Town song)
ABBA
Bananarama
The Theme from Rawhide
Marty Robbins
Sons of the Pioneers
Celtic Woman
Enya
Many more I’m sure.
Marc
•A couple of songs from Return of the King. (Rankin-Bass’ Return of the King. “Where there’s a whip…there’s a way!”)
•The Horst Wessel Lied, slowed and pitched down by about 40%. (Just because it’s the fucking scariest thing you ever heard.)
•“If You’re Not the One” by Daniel Bedingfield
•“Ruth” (aka the “Star Trek’s Spock Love Theme”)
•Sarah Brightman’s remastered version of her old hit “I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper.”
The Spice Girls
En Vogue
I would say Dolly Parton…but all of my friends already know of my deep and abiding love of the Dolly. Back off, Master Yoda , she’s mine!
If you believe my husband and my friends, all of the songs on my iPod invoke contempt and mockery. I’ve got Barry Manilow and Neil Diamond. But they’re off in their own little genre called “schmaltz”.
Surprisingly, my music-snob friends are okay with this. I guess the Neil Young and Donna the Buffalo redeem me.
Robin
I don’t know about contempt, but my MP3 collection has quite a few that do/would get me mocked, mercilessly.
The BeeGees
The Eurovision 2006 album
Sarah Brightman
Justin Timberlake - Sexyback
Herman’s Hermits - Henry The Eighth
Lazytown - You Are a Pirate
The Naruto OST
Most of the Hello! Project groups, but particularly MiniMoni and the Hello! Kids groups. (Berryz Koubou and C-ute.)
The Josie and the Pussycats movie OST. (Although I think the fact that I liked the movie is more likely a source for mockage…)
Most of mine invoke mockery from my close friends. I have loaded mine with hits from 60s and 70s. My friends joke about this constantly saying how one dimensional I am.
Casual acquaintances however often mention the diversity of my likes - they see the many different types of music, not the era from which it comes.
None of the songs would get me mocked but some of the other material might. Usually when I mention that I have some song or other my friends want me to burn them a copy.
By “snobs” do you mean you only listen to crappy emo/indie music that sucks and that no one has ever heard of? 'cause it’s difficult for me to comprehend someone who has any actual music taste laughing at AC/DC or Prince since they are masters of their particular genres.
My friends and I did have a little contest at a bachelor party to see who had the “gayest” music on their iPods for the strippers to dance to (for the purpose of this contest, gay= pop/house/electronic dance music one might associate with a gay nightclub. I assume gay people listen to all kinds of music.). I think a house remix of 80s classic “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)” won.
Let’s see…
selected cuts from The Best of Patty Duke
Ringo by Lorne Greene
Don’t Cha by The Pussycat Dolls
various selections from The Kingston Trio and The Limeliters
Oh, Mandy!
Well, you came and you gave without taking,
and I sent you away - oh Mandy!
I’ve got a lot of embarassing stuff on my iPod, which most people never even see anyway except my boyfriend in the car (that shuffle thing will kill your cool cred), but Barry may win.
