Aright aha and me gots this bet going on. If he can get The Great Cecil himself to welcome him to the boards he wins ten bucks (which by the way he said he’ll split it 50-50 with Cecil cheater). So lets start a little pool going here. Who here thinks that aha will be able to pull it off and get Unca Cecil to welcome him by Tuesday 12AM?
(Since I made the bet I can put a deadline on it )
By tuesday midnight? Alright, I’ll take that bet… aha will get his greating, after all, Cecil is a great man… he wouldnt disrespect a loyal follower like aha. Me? He appeared in one of my threads one already! ahyup! stretches arms out and cracks knuckles yupyupyupyupyupyupyup.
No, he will not get it by Tuesday. You think Cecil is back there looking at his screen going “Stop asking! Stop asking! I can’t take it!”. I would be surprised if Cecil is even keeping up with the board that much. I am sure most of his work day is spent researching columns. I think even when he considers a topic that was posted on SDMB it is because Zotti or someone else told him about it.
I suspect Cecil is busy doing important SD things like discovering the chemical composition of earwax or hunting down the origins of Spanish Fly to humor this wingnut.
There’s no way Cecil will do it. But if it’ll make you feel better, I will, “Welcome to the SDMB you palindromic two-bit music teacher with a hotmail account living in the middle of nowhere on land taken by force from Native Americans!”
I don’t know why I think this, but I think he’ll get the welcome. I don’t know when, but I think it’ll happen. I think it will be something short, like “Hi.” That’s it.
I know this will disturb some but “Cecil Adams” is a pseudonym much like TRB in the New Republic. Some beleive that Ed Zotti (which may also be a pen name) writes the Cecil columns.
2)“Cecil” rarely posts in the message boards.
Only around 60, IIRC. Nor is Ed a frequent poster - which does not mean that he (or she) doesn’t read them. CKDextHavn, who has a writing style and humor very close to Cecil’s, posts quite often.
Bad things can happen when administrators or moderators (or “Cecil”)post messages.
Too often, unfortunately, when people like “Ed” post a message, perhaps because of their position, things that they write are criticized by other posters. Demands are made for apologies. Some moderators have lost their cool (or their sense of being representatives of the Chicago Reader) and insulted other posters. It’s best that they be quiet or post anonymously as “members”.
A lot of posts is not necessarily a good thing.
There’s much more to life than posting on a message board. Right now, “Cecil’s” getting set to knock back a couple of cold ones at a nearby bar (I suppose.) If limited posts increases the character Cecil’s “mystery” or “allure”, so much the better.
