Any WWE fans in the audience? (Part 1)

According to what I’ve read, NYSAC only licenses and penalizes wrestling promoters, not individual wrestlers. So even if Nevada suspends Brock and New York honors that suspension in terms of MMA, they don’t have the power to suspend him from wrestling. They could potentially fine WWE for putting on the fight, but I’ve also read that NYSAC’s rules prohibit such things as “wrestlers fighting in the stands” and “wrestlers wearing a mask”, and WWE finds it easier to pay the fine than to comply with the rules.

The NYSAC “Rules” for professional wrestling/sports entertainment are quite funny. Masks are not covered (as far as I could find). Here are some of the special rules pertaining to wrestling matches

They devote a rather large section (compared, at least, to these) on tag team wrestling. One simply cannot make this shit up.

So the rules for the draft have been announced, and 6 NXT spots are available. Who do we think is being called up? Remember that tag-teams count as 1 pick.

My guesses:

Finn
Bayley
American Alpha
Austin Ares
Carmella or Alexa
Tye Dillinger

They won’t bring up Joe (he has the title) or Nakamura just yet because they need SOME star power there, and I think NXT is going to wait until they develop a little bit more talent before calling one (or both) of them up

NYSAC has issued a statement saying that whether or not Brock works Summerslam is WWE’s call and that any suspension issued against him won’t stop it from happening.

The statement mentions that the law in NY was amended in 2002 to recognize wrestling as a work - I’m guessing a lot of the odder statutes mentioned above are relics from the days when wrestling was on the up-and-up (or at least presented to authorities as being such).

Sure, the state is not in control any more, but now the heat is on the WWE to justify Brock wrestling under their Wellness Policy. Other wrestlers who have been suspended could turn around and sue Vince if he lets Brock wrestle.

I hadn’t seen Brock admit to anything yet, I recall him saying something like he “wanted to get to the bottom of it”, which is suspicious to me right away because he didn’t say “I didn’t do it”.

Six from NXT are supposed to be called up. Don’t know if tag teams are considered 1 unit in their case.

Agree with your first three, and maybe Carmella to balance the face vs heel women count, and to make more heat magic with Enzo & Cass. I think there’s a strong possibility for Mojo Rawley to go directly to Superstars.

Since AA seems to be working a feud with No Way Jose, not now but later. They seem to want more old timers like Rhyno to work with the up-and-comings. I don’t think Tye’s ready yet. He connects with the audience and he’s done really good work, but his mic work isn’t anything remarkable.

What’s the status of Eric Young and Bobby Roode? Their foots are in the door but they haven’t stepped all the way through yet.

Finn, American Alpha and Bayley I think are givens.

Of course, I can see them NOT calling up Bayley and we burn the place down.

I don’t see them calling up Carmella yet. She isn’t ready. I’m thinking Bayley, Nia and Asuka, but that would either require a vacated title and a tournament crowning either Carmella or Bliss (who is improving, but should stay in NXT as well).

I’d say call up Joe, but who is he facing at Brooklyn again?

Maybe Finn, Shinsuke, Alpha, Austin Ares, Bayley, Nia.

Why, to both paragraphs? I’m not going to hunt down and read the WWE Wellness Policy, but I presume that it is WWE tests that exclude wrestlers, not third party tests. If third party tests are included, then I would agree.

As for being picayune over the choice of words, “getting to the bottom of it” could just as well mean wanting to find out how he tested positive if he didn’t do anything.

[Unrelated P.S. - the paragraphs I posted earlier were from the latest available revision, circa 2010]

WWE fired Billy Gunn earlier this year for failing a third-party drug test, so the precedent exists.

If they wanted to pay the barest amount of lip service to it, they could say something like “Well, we learned about it the second week of July, so that’s when his 30-day suspension began, and wouldn’t you know it, we didn’t have him scheduled to appear until after the time it ended anyway”.

Fair enough - I didn’t remember that (though to be fair, I remember as little as possible about Billy Gunn, and whenever I do remember something, I kill those brain cells right away).

They have been very strict for a while now. Even approved drugs used for medical reasons have to be approved by their doctor because there’s potential for abuse. How they’ll handle it though is open to question, I have no idea how they apply it to part time talent like Brock.

Have Brock job to Orton.

I agree that Carmella and Alexa are both probably too green, but that certainly didn’t stop them from calling up Dana too quickly. I’m actually just trying to think like them.

Same with Tye. Yeah he gets over, but if they call him up, who replaces him as the “guy everyone knows but loses to the new/big people” like CJ Parker and Tyler Breeze were?

Angelo Dawkins?

We have a winner here, I predict.

I’d love to see Trips scheduled to work an event in Madison Square Garden, only to have the NYSAC show up with a pee cup. Maybe one for Vince too, if he steps out from behind the curtain.

ok, wanted to hear Enzo go “And this here is John Cena. And you can’t teach that!” :stuck_out_tongue:

nm

That was an interesting promo with Enzo talking all modern urban and Cena not connecting with him, suggesting that his youth connection has now expired. Foreshadowing for the errant forearm in the ensuing match. AJ Styles and his soccer mom haircut, HAH! I finally get the that sense AJ & the Club are no longer outsiders.

While I’m happy Foley and Bryan are back on TV, I’m not sure it’ll work, unless they turn heel. Bryan’s appeal is that he overcame adversity and maintained a steadfast cheerfulness throughout all his constant shitstorms. That being said, he’s been a good crybaby heel before. His pairing with Kane was classic. If that Daniel Bryan could turn into a weasely GM, it could work. Let’s face it, authority figures have to be heels.

I’m not so sure about Foley. He’s an iconoclast for sure. I saw his standup show and he signed my book, so I love him. But as an authority figure? The unhinged psychopath who nearly killed himself in the ring? Sure, if RAW goes family-unfriendly, but not as straight man to Stephanie’s entitled bitch princess character. He’s the type who would kidnap her and talk to her in the third person as she whimpers in a 30-ft deep pit, not be her stooge.

So, is Darren Young great again yet?
